I feel like there is a crowd for these videos here. Apologies for the shameless self promotion though.

I think the lack of sponsorship by Storyblocks or at least Squarespace reveals so much. As a result, I have liked and subscribed twice.

  4. All YouTube video AI chains end the same- insane, violent, bizarre, and extreme. It doesn't even matter what you start with... eventually it goes there and you have to choose which road accident to watch, or you need to be more intentional on what you let yourself watch. PS: I give this thread two days before it goes to crazy land and gets shut down.

It’s easy to stretch these things out with a 5 minute Storybollocks ad. Me myself and I are still working on how to get some stock NYC footage into one of my rural SW France weddings...

  9. Some idiots came first. Many idiots came after the algorithm. The reasons are many. The dissemination and profiteering (by the social tech companies) is just part of the problem. The profits first approach is the cause of much destruction in the world from ecological to societal to our own mental health. I’m not a doom-and-gloomer but there are seriously dark times ahead. We are seeing even the craziest bat shit fringe bumbling up to the highest levels of society. We are seeing massive inequality in wealth breeding a tinder box of dysfunction and disillusion in everything. A reset is coming. It probably, most definitely, won’t be pretty.

  10. I would without a moment of hesitation recommend an Elgato Stream Deck. I have the mid sized one which is 15 keys. But you can work in layers - so press photoshop and have 15 shortcuts in PS, same for Premiere, LR, or Chrome (with website shortcuts.) It is just super easy and intuitive to setup...

  13. I agree. I'd wait a little. This is a new model, with new internals- prudence is necessary IMO. What gives me confidence about this model is that: They're supposedly using many of the same parts as the previous one... if it ain't broken, don't fix it. A lot of the guts will be shared with the processor main unit. This can only be good in that they test this the most. For those 2 reasons alone, I'd buy it because the performance is going to be leaping a generation or 2 (watch other intel and AMD processors tank in price? They should.). Also, what else do I NEED? This thing is capable of editing 8k H.265. Give it an educational discount for FCPX, motion, etc for $200- this thing is an extremely powerful machine.

  14. Interesting. Would love to try the new MacBook Air. I may test it before I actually get one. I haven't used a Mac in the longest. I used to hate Word and Excel on it. For video and photo editing it's pretty neat. The Air is priced pretty well, for the apparent performance. Would also love to see some independent reviews before taking a call.

  15. This is both very promising but also kind of disappointing; the performance boosts are impressive and they seem to be giving you good value, but I hate that Apple is going back to a more closed off system. The switch to Intel really opened things up, especially when it came to 3rd party programs. It also makes me wonder how easy it will be for those 3rd party developers to re-write or port their programs to use the new processors.

  18. The SOC is nice, and a new infrastructure is inspiring for the future of computers. But, let's be honest, 8k Prores is't not a hard codec to work with. I wanna se real h264/h265 performance.

  20. Agreed. The C300iii looks great. The RF mount is very exciting and has an advantage over the EF. These two lenses in particular., both very fast lenses with IS and macro. The prices are also great. Both are under 600. Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM Lens Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM Lens

    Davinci resolve 17

I've watched a few videos running down the new features, and I must say that I'm pretty excited for quite a few of the features. The New Colour Wheels look awesome and I think i'll likely use them a lot. I have a control surface so the Lift/Gamma/Gain controls are great for exposure corrections, but they are very 'macro' controls, not really having enough control over things like shadows vs blacks etc, especially for the naturally lit uncontrolled situations I shoot. I can use curves, but they're a PITA to use with the control surface, so having the new colour wheels will be great, giving enough 'resolution' but still being fast enough to use quickly. The Colour Warper (spiderweb) and luma/chroma warper will be quite handy too. I often find myself wanting to quickly change the saturation, hue, and luma of certain colours (eg, foliage) and currently you have to bounce back and forwards between Hue v Hue, Hue v Sat, and Hue v Lum to do that. Also, one of the things that I have played with in the past is a Saturation limiter. The idea is that I want to up the saturation on clips, but when I do that sometimes theres a splash of colour in the background that goes nuclear in OTT saturation, so what you want is a curve that increases the saturation of colours under a certain threshold, but once a colour gets to a certain level of saturation it should encounter a 'knee' and the saturation boost should slow down at that point, limiting the most saturated elements of an image. That's also possible easily with this tool. I had previously used a Sat v Sat curve, but the risk of that is that you end up with overlaps where more saturated colours end up less than colours that started off less saturated to begin with, so I had to generate some test images to ensure I designed it correctly. The new Sat vs Lum curve looks great too. One of the things that I learned in investigating film is that emulating a subtractive colour model requires the darkening of more saturated colours, which currently has to be done in a relatively customised way, whereas this gives a nice curve. I'm also curious about the new Temp and Tint controls. I use Temp and Tint all the time to correct WB and apparently they've redesigned them to work in XYZ colour space (assuming I understood that correctly) which means they will be perceptually better, which is cool.

  25. Here is the way I see it: All DSLR mounts: headed the way of the dodo. Buy this if you see some amazing secondhand bargains, but be very careful not to do anything that leaves you "locked into" the mount. (such as buying electronic EF mount lenses! No, no, no) MFT Mount: the widest range of options, with the widest range of brand/manufacturer support. Some people look down at 4/3" sensors as being "too small", when in reality they're only marginally smaller than the classic standard of Super 35mm that has ruled Oscars / Golden Globe / Emmy Awards etc for many years. Sony E Mount: 2nd best behind MFT Mount when it comes to wide ranging choices to pick from, and E Mount is especially strong when it comes to having many choices of camera bodies on both the stills side (the a7 & a6xxx series) and the cinema side (VENICE/FX9/FS7/FS5/etc) of things too. There is a reasonable fear that Sony is "turning into the next Canon" (in a bad way). That Sony might be resting on their laurels and not pushing ahead with innovation like they used to do when they were the new kid on the block and hungry for success. Canon EOS-M: the writing is on the wall, they're going the way of the dodo too. Canon will eventually ditch EOS-M and focus exclusively on their RF Mount. Pentax Q / Nikon 1: huh, what? Fujifilm X / Nikon Z: great stills cameras that have taken great leaps forward in recent years with their video capabilities, but nothing higher end if you wish to upgrade later on to a cinema body instead of just using a stills/hybrid camera. Canon RF: what to get if you're a Canon fanboy with stockholm syndrome, instead of using your switch to mirrorless as an opportunity to free yourself from your Canon chains of bondage! (however, like any other ruling tyrant, Canon does hang out a carrot in front of you as a faint glimmer of hope that "the future will be different, and all your patience through the abuse will be worth it in the end". As the Canon C70 in particular is an impressive new release, will the C70 live up to its hype? Does the release of the C70 mark a future change for new camera releases from Canon? Or will Canon quickly back slide into their bad old ways?)

  26. Yeah just small things like choosing the right DOF for the type of shot you are doing and the feel you want. I'd say locations may be the most important thing. Some locations you hardly have to do anything to, they just look good. Same with actors too honestly. Some actors have a Hollywood look and of course having actors who can deliver lines professionally is huge.

  28. This news is so good, I'm trading my S5 for a used S1 and the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 and a spare battery. This will fit nicely with my S1H and I also get the deeper buffer and the no time limit 10-bit recording, as well as internal 5.9K!!!

  29. True they do not have a dedicated video camera, though they do offer dedicated video lenses, but based on the OP's original question and further responses, this is someone looking to get into photography/video on a relatively low budget rather than expecting to shoot even an indie movie. The Fuji XT3 produces excellent 4k, 10 bit internal video, full-frame quality matching stills and the XT4 ups the game further with IBIS and back up insurance of being able to write to both cards which few can do. As a starting out system or moving up from 4/3rds, it's excellent. Weak point is the lack of video-orientated lenses with AF though several of them are more than good enough in this department, particularly the; 18-55, 16-55, 50-140, 23 f2 and 50 f2. It's the system I have been used for 50+ jobs since the XT3 came out (and XH1 previously) but have just moved the Lumix S5 for a number of reasons that are not critical of the Fuji system. There really is not a bad system though, whether it be Nikon, Canon, Sony, Panny or Fuji as each have strengths and weaknesses and will suit certain users better than others.

    4K 120fps for cheap

Here's more a few frames of high resolution & frame rate coupled to a nice review on the device: Poor highlights can be compensated with Camera2 API (you can also rewind & FF for a real comparison test among three of the best offers on the Android side IMHO: Samsung, Xiaomi & ASUS -- from Taiwan, so use subs tool as you wish) : WTH this bargain is... A perfect no-brainer along the best mode/tool setting:

  31. These rules are here to make the forum as interesting as possible to read for others. If I ban somebody, it will only be be because they repeatedly broke the rules below. I ask for everybody's understanding on this - I only have two goals - to protect EOSHD and my business, and to make the forum a source of high quality camera and filmmaking info. Cheers! 1. Please be polite to other users where possible, although lively debates and disagreements are ok and to be expected! However, when it comes to the site owner myself, I would like you to bear in mind that your remarks are in my house and on my phone screen. So it is especially important not to come here with a hostile attitude to the site owner. I do not wish to see this content in my home and it will result in an instant ban. I do not want trolling at work, or during home hours. 2. Please do not promote your own products without OK-ing this with me first, especially ones which compete with my own at EOSHD. This includes camera guides, colour profiles, LUTs and alternative blogs or forums. If an account is setup for the main purposes of selling LUTs for example, this is not OK and you must clear this with me first. If I like your work I may get in touch and work something out. However I will always reserve the final say for the very obvious need to protect my own livelihood and website. Please do not use your forum activity to take customers away from my own site. 3. Extreme topics and viewpoints relating to communism, baseless conspiracy theories, MAGA and extreme left & right-wing politics are not allowed on the forum. I welcome people of all reasonable political views but I do not accept far left or far right propaganda on the forum. The filmmaking community is largely a liberal art and Trump endorsing views aren't usually welcomed on set, so it's important to keep in mind that the same applies to this corner of the film and camera industry too. Please understand - this is not about political censorship but about avoiding a hostile and divisive atmosphere in the community. And to ensure camera topics aren't side-tracked. It is not so much about politics as about morality. 4. Please try to post original and useful content! Only linking out to other sites or YouTube content will not be tolerated as EOSHD should not simply be a rehash of somebody's private web surfing history. Please try to contribute real-life experiences of camera use, images, actual filmmaking and relevant topics in an original way. 5. Please do not regularly bump your own topics, especially curating your own editorial style compilation of YouTube videos you've found on the web. The forum should not be an advertising platform for poor quality content. A few relevant clips are fine in the context of a discussion. 6. Trolling is forbidden and results in an instant ban. Users with a hostile attitude to myself or my friends on the forum will be banned immediately as first post is moderated before being shown. So don't bother with that. If a user rejoins under a different name to continue the abuse, email, IP address and all meta data will be logged and depending on the situation, legal steps may be taken and law enforcement may be notified about threats, libel or online abuse. 7. Please do not post completely off-topic posts and please keep chat & small talk to private messages! When a topic has a lot of short opinions and off topic remarks, it can be difficult for users to find the objective, factual camera information they came to the EOSHD Forum for. 8. Any account set up for product advertising purposes or spam will be deleted instantly. This can include representatives from camera or accessories companies, who use the forum to promote a product in an obviously biased way without acknowledging the site owner or contributing beyond the purposes of promotion. Carefully disguising this as helping users on a technical level will not pass muster! 9. Fake users are not allowed on the forum, bots are pre-moderated. All spam accounts will be deleted. 10. Advisory: Whenever possible, please to avoid posting URLs in topics to the following sources: Tony Northrup (YouTube), Max Yuryev (YouTube), Fro Knows Photo (YouTube), Cinema5D (CineD), NoFilmSchool, DPReview, 43rumors, Sony Alpha Rumors, Everyday Dad (YouTube) and the DPReview Forums. In my opinion these sources have too much emphasis on advertising, too cozy with camera PR departments, too much clickbait, too much sponsored content, or even feature a hostile competitive attitude to EOSHD. For example the DPReview Forum for years had a ban on my URL, so in response, please do not link there. I won't censor it, I just discourage it.
