Z-CAM is on a roll... SONY E-MOUNT, FULLY COMMUNICATING, NOT DUMB
barefoot_dp and 2 others reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
This E mount is a 3rd party piece made by Viltrox, not Z Cam. Hopefully they do reverse engineer a couple more protocols, the more options the better!3 points -
Photokina is dead
Ricardo Constantino and 2 others reacted to Emanuel for a topic
This is silly. My country will spend 11 millions this year on a Web Summit ...online. And the brand (!) Photokina will simply vanish?! Why? Is photography dying and I haven't noticed yet? Or the DSLR/mirrorless industry for Christ's sake? Does it make any sense? : ( On the other hand, smartphone manufacturers celebrate computational photography...3 points -
I have the best result in single point mode. now in the new firmware combined with human detection, but not tryed yet. My second angle camera is the Sony 6400 with powerbank on a free monopod. No record limit and fast reliabel AF.2 points

DIY Perks Fixed the Canon R5! (almost)
The Dancing Babamef and one other reacted to Matt Perks for a topic
I am indeed! I meant to thank bloggers (including Andrew specifically) for bringing the issue of overheating up so much. The pressure about the timer nonsense forced Canon to change the way the camera monitors temperatures, which is the reason the mod works at all.2 points -

Any switchers from EOS R to a7sIII? How does the Camera FEEL in comparison?
omega1978 reacted to Mark Romero 2 for a topic
Regarding Sony colors (and colors for ALL cameras): The colors coming out of my Sony a6500 are HIGHLY dependent on the lens I put in front of it. Same thing with my Panasonic S1. Different colors depending on whether I put my Canon 16-35 f/4 L, or my Panasonic 24-105 f/4, or my Minolta MD 50mm f/2.1 point -

I think that @omega1978 suggestion of an a6400 might be a good one. I have an a6500 - which has an older version of the AF system found in the newer a6400 - and it keeps up with people skateboarding around, so I don't think it would have much of a problem with a bride and groom walking down an aisle. do you still have an X-T3 lying around somewhere???1 point -
Z-CAM is on a roll... SONY E-MOUNT, FULLY COMMUNICATING, NOT DUMB
KnightsFan reacted to andrgl for a topic
@KnightsFan it's only being manufactured by them. Z-Cam did the reverse engineering, design and coding to have the lenses communicate with their camera bodies.1 point -
When you do shows in the USA the crazy union racketeering is amazing too. Like charging you thousands of dollars to move a pallet of stuff 100ft, or $200 to hire a $20 chair for three days, or demanding that a union registered man stand next to you at a charge of $1000/hr if you want to film something (at one particular show). It's a phenomenally corrupt business the trade show shebang. The people make it fun, everything else around it is s chore.1 point

Nikon could leave camera market
mkabi reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
If all these influencers are buying professional gear, why is Nikon in dire straits? Part of it is because Nikon was late to the mirrorless market. Part of it is that influencers and content creators are just using an entirely phone based workflow from shooting to editing. Might be a tablet in there at most. How many D850 shot Tik Tok videos are out there compared to the number shot on smartphones? Maybe 0.00001%? The industry has fucked itself. They have not been in the game. It is the fault of elderly out of touch Japanese management in their 80's. They haven't even yet got proper touch screens and OS. Let alone a successful App Store and foolproof connectivity. Some companies quite frankly deserve to be swept away in the change. I just hope the better, more deserving ones survive. Especially Sigma.1 point -
Nikon could leave camera market
mkabi reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Did you see how many shitty compact cameras Nikon used to make? Masses and masses of them, for the masses. The market has practically vanished. They did nothing about it. Of course the market is getting smaller. Professional tools are a niche compared to consumer cameras. It is only high margins and expensive price tags that keep them from being completely unviable. Now that the camera companies have backed out from bothering to compete in massive consumer markets, they have dug themselves an even larger hole. Also remember with Nikon it is not just cameras that are the problem. Their outdated chipmaking business is about to hit the wall as well. It has about one customer.1 point -

I think that the copper heat spreader only is by far the best mos practical solution, and also good enough to keep it cool.1 point -
I would thought the 24-105 will be better? 70mm is a bit short for me.1 point
-
Sweet. I've never made a product, but could the copper part be sent to a manufacturer as a prototype? I would happily use this mod - warranty be damned. I probably wouldn't even bother with a fan as it'd likely cover my needs as a B-cam on its own.1 point

C70 - first impressions
andrgl reacted to Gregormannschaft for a topic
Been using the C70 the past few days and have to admit I wasn’t the biggest fan at first. It felt a little unwieldy to use, I’d have loved to have been able to swivel the handle a little as the joystick is in a tricky spot to reach sometimes. The dials are also a little oddly placed. Second day filming and it feels a lot more natural after I started to think of it more as a small cinema camera rather than a big mirrorless or DSLR. As always, love the internal NDs, like having false color and so many customizable buttons. The DPAF seemed snappier than the C200 but still not perfect and not something I would fully trust for some shots. Footage seems clean, not overly sharp but I haven’t really had time to play around with it properly yet. I’m still not entirely sure the price is justified, it seems a little high in Europe especially, but once it drops a little with cameras appearing on the used market I think it will be a lot more attractive. The BMPCC4K, and even the LUMIX S1, have really screwed with how I perceive what a camera is worth these days. There’s so much value to be had at lower price points, it’s really becoming more about convenience features and ergonomics.1 point -

My beef against Mavic Pro 2 is that couple of grams over 900 mark, the difference between to be subject to be fined or not... ; ) Everyone asking me I am able to suggest the true jump from original version and IMHO much better than the Mini 2 designed for U.S. market limitations, her sister and here is why:1 point

The Best Davinci Resolve Color Grading for Skintones Explanation Ever?
Stathman reacted to herein2020 for a topic
So I have been shooting more fashion and higher end work lately and wanted to improve my color grading process without adding too much time or going down the endless rabbit hole that is known as color grading. My current process is to simply conform each clip to Rec.709 using a VLOG to Rec709 LUT make some minor tweaks using the waveforms then add an adjustment clip over the whole project to give it a certain look and feel. This works fine for events, real estate, etc. but what I am finding is that the finishing LUT is also affecting skin tones in ways that I did not like. So a quick YouTube search turned up the below video which is what really helped me develop a new workflow that is almost as fast as my previous one but allowed me to greatly improve my color grade without adding too much more time to my process. My new workflow is as follows: 1 - Apply a VLOG to Rec709 LUT to the clip 2 - Adjust the highlights and shadows using a mixture of the Log Wheels and Color Wheels until I have a good starting Rec709 image 3 - Apply a false color LUT to Node 2 to check for skin tone exposures then remove it when the exposure is right 4 - Create an adjustment clip and adjust the curves, saturation, etc while creating a skin tone layered node to control the skin tones separately 5 - Clone the adjustment clip to each subsequent clip and make small adjustments to the skin tone node qualifier to keep the creative grade from affecting the skin tones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcFPJOLTFP01 point -
Canon R5 or Sony a7SIII?
greenscreen reacted to Emanuel for a topic
That's a double challenge indeed : ) Isn't that what they actually try?? ; ) It's not true such attempt is totally useless at all. Without mention, cut is part of the process, post (part of this craft) is not only trying to correct with 10% warp stabilization. That said, imperfection is part of this art. There is a level of tolerance on both ways for sure. Other than that it's just people complaining on web ;- )1 point -
You're right, everything should be a balance and if you use a resource, there's little sense to none repeating it ad nauseam : ) In any case, he knows how to shoot it. Most shooters lack to frame the subject or have no clue how to properly move the camera, without mention cinematography or how to not cross the red line of the device limitations. In the end, you ain't refusing that new release but the inability to handle it and take all the potentiality of it. Let alone camera settings. Here's a fine example as far as settings concerns, posted earlier today here but on minute 14:45 instead now: https://youtu.be/BFYt6PtyDyw?t=8851 point

Canon EOS R5 / R6 overheating timers, workarounds, and Magic Lantern
Juank reacted to zerocool22 for a topic
@Andrew Reid could you do a side by side video with the r5 and you s1h? I didnt found any comparison videos between these 2. I wonder how much difference of DR there is in real life and how bad the AF is on the S1h in comparison and stabilization. But also how smooth do the files edit? Does the s1h have an edit codec advantage? Thanks!1 point -
The above: Z 6 recorded in 10bitProRes 422 HQ using the Ninja V. Nikon N-Log LUT used for grading. DX Z 16-50mm lens. Shot in DX mode with Nikon DX 16-80mm ED lens. and the FTZ adapter.1 point
