  1. I think you're misunderstanding me. I'm specifically referring to Newfoundmass's post that "their main page basically recommended alt-right and Newsmax pro-Trump videos on my first visit." That's what I have a problem with, not the underlying technology. And saying that the the alt-right (led by the Orange Dumpsterfire in the Whitehouse) is attempting to destroy democracy in America is not "hysterical hyperbole." The huge push to try to invalidate our presidential election through the alt-right media and the courts is having, and will have, long lasting effects on our election system. It's not trivial. And you can add the long-term voter suppression push from the right targeting (mostly) people of color and nakedly partisan gerrymandering of electoral districts to that. No good.

  2. Seeking out multiple sources of information from different viewpoints is one thing. Supporting a platform that gives voice to or promotes dangerous, falsehood filled propaganda channels like Newsmax is another. I'm sorry, but I can't get behind anything that remotely smacks of the whole Parler fake "free speech" alt-right echo chamber. These people are actively trying to destroy democracy over here and actually killing people and plotting terrorist acts. So, yeah, if LBRY is promoting their content on any part of it service, I for one am not going to use them at all.

  3. That's exactly what I was afraid someone would say. I'll dig around and see what I can come up with. I truly appreciate the response!

  4. Never liked the original one - well documented in this forum and others! C70 seems like the way forward, I just hope every new release will lower the C70 price tag, until I can reach it. Lately I do more specific TV jobs (assistant director and whatnot), I do not need more cameras, but for a thousand less, I would definitely get the C70 just to look at it late at night when I come back from the episodic TV madness!

  5. The amount of variables that contribute to why specific great atrocities happen are so many and so complex I'd not want to try to delve into it. I personally have much more hope for the future than what the past has been. The traditional structures that were in place before didn't stop any of the constant wars or atrocities that happen world wide to this day. I think traditional social structures are forever gone though. We have no unity anymore not in religion, not in our cultural identity, not in our identity as citizens of the countries we belong. Or at least that is how I see it within people of my age group and younger here in the US. Its like we've seen everything as a fraud. Of course we have this hurrah of nationalist sentiment with Trump which I feel will dwindle with him out of office and of course once the older generation that put him in office is dead and gone. Of course I am speaking of the USA and not the world as a whole. In general though I see technology as the great liberator. We have all this information at our finger tips like never before along with access to any person anywhere in the world. We are also only really two decades into it.

  6. What does promoting violence entail? Unless its a call to violent action which I agree should be removed. But I am on the extreme side of the free speech argument, libertarian you could say, which IMHO is very different from the whole Nationalist Trump way of thinking.

  7. So how is that different than an self imposed echo chamber? The other problem with this separate from this site in particular is the whole “recommendation” platform and incentive these platforms have to keep you viewing on their platform. People end up getting recommended content that doesn’t give them a diverse range. Google is the worst. So I can roll my own and have it select only videos about a singular agenda I might want to promote (say kicking out all immigrants) and then advertise this website as “news”. This is exactly the problem with the current situation. People live in fantasy bubbles and can’t even agree on a consistent reality. White is black. No black is white. No the sky is up. Sky is down. Mix in partisanship and hate (that is actively prompted) and it leads to violence in the most unstable.

  8. What exactly will the C200 mk2 be though? Another RAW + 8 bit camera. Such awkward segmentation. But there is really no where else to go between the C70 and the C300.

  9. But this is exactly what happens almost every time. People seek out the content and they go right back into echo chamber group-think. Doesn’t matter the platform. It’s worse with conspiracy theorists because they think they have the “real” answers and don’t trust anything. And it’s just not them being skeptical it’s an insidious undertone to their entire life. And when their grand theory is stretched in anyway they invent a fantasy reality to make it work. Sounds like a pandemic of mental health problems. I don’t have the answers but a lot of this revolves around people having poor interpersonal and critical thinking skills.

  11. I feel you. Social networks are pushing their agenda. Biology isn't valuable science anymore. Youtube is watching an ad by an influencer undercut with another ad from another brand pushing to mass consumerism. I got banned for several days from FB after I posted a comedy sketch about the coronavirus and it got flagged by a fact checker. It wasn't some conspiracy bullshit. It was comedy, by actors. Isis beheadings? no problem, ok to FB standards White Pride hate groups? no problem, ok to FB standards Fake news and conspiracies? no problem, ok to Youtube standards. But there's a ton of good stuff, but they should really ban more fucked up accounts and fucked up content.

  12. The front knurled ring “locks” the focus, so loosen that first. The wider knurling will then be able to rotate. The infinity mark may not be exact, but shouldn’t be far off. Put both the scope and your 50m at infinity markings and then point at something detailed in the far distance. You should be able to get it sharp with micro adjustments. are you supporting the weight of the scope adequately? An over heavy setup can sag enough to throw out focus.

  13. I am indeed! I meant to thank bloggers (including Andrew specifically) for bringing the issue of overheating up so much. The pressure about the timer nonsense forced Canon to change the way the camera monitors temperatures, which is the reason the mod works at all.

  14. Some idiots came first. Many idiots came after the algorithm. The reasons are many. The dissemination and profiteering (by the social tech companies) is just part of the problem. The profits first approach is the cause of much destruction in the world from ecological to societal to our own mental health. I’m not a doom-and-gloomer but there are seriously dark times ahead. We are seeing even the craziest bat shit fringe bumbling up to the highest levels of society. We are seeing massive inequality in wealth breeding a tinder box of dysfunction and disillusion in everything. A reset is coming. It probably, most definitely, won’t be pretty.

  15. I don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere but if you have some vintage A-Mount lenses (Minolta, etc..) and you plan to shoot stills or video with the A7S III, the auto-focus will not work anymore with the LA-EA4 adapter. It seems Sony disabled it. And the new LA-EA5 can only do stills--not video. This forces customers to buy e-mount lenses if they want auto-focus with their video.
