SONY FX3 new camera to be announced
Grimor and 2 others reacted to currensheldon for a topic
It does seem a tad strange. unless the guy above is wrong and it has internal variable ND - then the camera instantly becomes very, very intriguing, especially if the IBIS rumor is true. But Sony has said before that having both IBIS and ND is nearly impossible, so I'd guess it will be one or the other. However, I'd say the A7sIII is the lazy inclusion if the FX3 is true because this, IMO, is a way more thought-out and useful video camera than the A7sIII. Love the dedicated buttons for WB, ISO, etc. Love the mounting points. Love how they did the top handle. Love that it is cinema focused and probably has the same color and S-Cinetone like the FX6. Love that it looks like the screen can tilt while staying center to the body. Love that it has focus magnification (does the A7sIII do this while recording?). I just love it. I've shat on Sony for many years because I did think the color and IQ of the A7sII, FS5, and (to less of a degree) FS7 was way behind the competition. BUT, I must say the FX9 and FX6 do seem to look much, much better. In my experience, every FS7/FX9/FX6/C300/EVA1/etc owner has a second B-Cam that is often a mirrorless for gimbal shots, 2nd interview shots, and as a backup camera. But no camera manufacturer has given them a TRUE b-cam (same sensor size, same mount, same color, same IQ, same general usability, etc). Canon has the C70, but still a bit too big for what I'm talking about and is the only Canon cinema camera with the RF Mount. Panasonic has the S1H, but it doesn't have an L-Mount A-Cam. But THIS Sony FX3 is nearly perfect, it seems. Along with ND, the other big inclusion needed is timecode. If you can jam this with FX9/FX6/audio and just have it on standby on a gimbal or a drone or wherever you need it, that would be so, so nice.3 points -

This statement is behind every piece of frustration that basically anyone has ever had about the files a camera delivers. Unless the camera can write a RAW stream in every mode that the sensor supports, then that's the entire problem. You're frustrated by lack of open-gate functions in FF cameras, I'm frustrated with my sub-$100 action camera that applies dreadful sharpening and NR to its 2MP sensor and then writes the files in abysmal quality 15Mbps h264, the P2K became a cult camera for writing RAW 1080p internally, the GH5 got hype for the 5K open-gate modes and 4K 400Mbps ALL-I modes, the P4K got hype for RAW 4K60 internally, ML has people voiding their warranties on cameras to get higher quality video to the card, etc etc. Taking the image from the sensor and not stomping on it before writing it to the SD card is basically the only thing we care about and talk about.3 points -
I'd like to say the same, but I filmed and live streamed one Wedding Ceremony last year totally for free. It was my own. 🤣🤣🤣 I setup 3 cameras, Pocket4K, GH5s at the front, on closeup and wide and a GH5 at the back. Plus attached a small camera for live streaming to Facebook for my wife's family in Turkey to see, plus UK friends and family as we were limited to 12 guests. This wasn't easy to set up as the registrar kept wanting to interview me for their bit of legal nonsense. I was fiddling with streaming settings on my phone and she politely asked me to put my phone down. Thankfully I got the streaming running just in the nick of time before my soon to be wife walked in. Before the Ceremony finished, I had to replace the card in the Pocket 4K as I had set it to HQ in the rush. I got looks from everyone including my now wife, but I just said cheekily, "hey, you're marrying a Wedding Videographer, what do you expect". 😁😁2 points

i confess up front i like flowers... m10 mark ii with the 15mm body cap lens between wind gusts this afternoon. I thought the 15mm did pretty well. i have the focus peaking set to the fn3 button. The 15mm has a little lever that allows for some control between 300mm and infinity combined with the peaking on the olympus, it allows for a small measure of control. Apart from resizing the jpegs are straight from the camera. not much vignetting either i think maybe noone was full frame ?2 points

I personally kinda feel its getting a bit trollish to drag comments/ jokes from one thread to another unrelated thread. I'm sure no real intent was meant. But like workplace accidents, jokes can go horribly wrong pretty quick as well. Its usually me thats ringing for the ambo's. I'm all for safety, but the issue can be getting other people to think in the first place. getting back on topic i have a couple of photos with the gimbal and 15mm olympus body cap lens, cant quite get the olympus and the 15mm lens far enough forward to balance properly, however i can get it to balance with the takumar 24mm and a light adapter. I'd take some footage but its horribly windy here today.2 points

Interesting - a good amount of vignetting on MFT sized sensor readout. All I can say to that is... EXCELLENT! I may end up slightly compensating for that in post, but maybe not. We'll see. In theory, mine arrives tomorrow 🙂 What was it about the RX100V that you most enjoyed? How is the ZV1 as a replacement? Do you mean modifying a GoPro? with something like a backbone mod? I was looking for c-mount lenses and came upon this which I thought was an interesting concept: https://cmount.com/product/c-mount-modified-sony-rx0-3-lens-atomos-shogun-inferno-4k-recorder-package/ Thanks Leslie! I'm not sure that taking up abseiling is a substitute for travel, but thankfully I have enough toys at home to keep me from getting desperate and grabbing some string and jumping off buildings 😛1 point

I am dull enough to get my fun through utility though so it works on both levels for me. I've decided that the German word for people who get their fun through the misfortune of others who have over tightened their glass balcony clamps and caused the destruction of said glass balcony should be "Shardenfreude".1 point

Most fun rig or piece of equipment?

Until recently I'd have said my most useful piece of equipment was my untethered glass balcony clamp.1 point -

$6000 cameras could be the norm soon?
pixelpreaching reacted to Caleb Genheimer for a topic
Just here to say, I wanted the new Fuji to have an open gate video mode enabled SO BADLY. That alone would’ve put me in “sell all my other bodies for a switch” high gear. I’m still holding steady without a sweat... GH5S for anamorphic, Pocket 4K for easy Raw, C200 from work if good AF is needed. I want LF video just because I find it interesting and really want to explore it. The S1H is tempting, but that darn AF keeps it from being the monstrous all-rounder I’m after. Hopefully the S2H fixes AF. If not, hey... S1H prices will probably drop at the same time and make that purchase more justifiable. I think the shaky market is still at a point where it may be a good thing, pushing the manufacturers to condense their lineups and get solid features into all cameras... but I guess we’ll see.1 point -

Don't know the reality on other markets - but here, having a Sim card in the camera would get zero sales. People here use its smartphone SIM for all the mobile traffic. Notebooks and other deviced are used in tethered wifi connections - except a couple of financial market friends, no one have a dedicated sim card for their notebooks or iPads when the devices have the option. Mobile fees are kind of expensive here - and, oddly, data-only SIM card plans are MUCH more expensive than the phone ones. As people don't want to spend more money to have two devices to take photos, people don't want to pay two connections for their devices. Some mobile apps (Panasonic and Fuji) already have the option to automatically import all the photos that you take with the camera. But you still have to open the app and have it connected - the Bluetooth enabled cameras make the connection process easier, but still slow because of the wifi handshake protocol. Direct upload to the social networks, even if the camera suports it, have hassles too: people could want to put some filter (more computational need), cameras would need a good keyboard, with prediction and hashtags, and the most glaring problem: the social networks are closing their APIs for 3rd party vendors. They WANT you to use the app, to monetize targeted ads.1 point -
SONY FX3 new camera to be announced

Ok I don't really see the value of this camera if the specs are genuinely confirmed as of now : it seems to be basically a Sony a7SIII in a different body. So no ND, same 3:2 screen on a video dedicated camera, etc. Despite the fan to prevent overheating and the EVF missing, it seems to be the same. What's the reason for buying this model over the A7sIII? For now I don't know. My initial excitement is going down after each rumor update.0 points
