Panasonic GH6
Kisaha and 2 others reacted to Video Hummus for a topic
If the GH5S had good AF it would have been an insanely popular camera I think for many creators. A GH6 with good PDAF and decent lowlight and features that rival BM Pocket cameras would be an insanely popular camera. If they added internal ND and PDAF to anything it would be an insanely popular camera. I would like to see it, because a GH6 with oversampled 4K, internal ND, PDAF, full vlog and one of those fast but cheap MFT primes would make a great b-camera for me and I suspect a lot of others. The total package would be small and fast to deploy3 points -
Too late for me now, I just pushed the button on a used S1H. Makes more sense in regard to pairing up with an S5, - both hybrid use, but about 90% video with the S1H and about 90% stills with the S5 with the lenses being interchangeable. I think even if Panny comes out with a GH6 later this year, for me specific requirements, it wouldn't make as much sense to use two different formats. I'd still like to see what it could be if it ever appears though...2 points

Clipping occurs when sensor photosites are saturated and can't collect any more photons. There is no "raw" on planet Earth that can "recover highlights" from a saturated photosite. The term "highlight recovery" that everybody throws around is not a real thing. You either clipped and saturated photosites on your sensor or you didnt. You either crossed that threshold or didnt. Neither Log video OR raw sensor data can save you from clipped sampling. Pure white....is always pure white. So is pure black. This goes for both log video and raw.2 points

I think the problem is there are lots of options out there and if we are honest, there has been no clear indication of when or if there will be a GH6 and whether it's worth waiting for. If it's over 2000-2400€ and doesn't have 6K 50p, eND, good AF and lowlight then I'm nor sure what the point of m43 as a pro camera is. And I have a GH5 and GH5S and loads of lenses. Whilst it's been a great camera for me I really feel my GH5 doesn't cut it anymore on quite a few of my jobs. Mainly due to lowlight, noise and af issues. GH5S only solves lowlight problem.2 points

The D-Mount project
kye reacted to QuickHitRecord for a topic
A great read, Kye. Way to roll with the punches. It's neat to have what is probably the only instance of this lens in use with this camera in the world. I look forward to seeing your footage with this setup.1 point -

American Cinematographer Special Offer
Tim Sewell reacted to Jay60p for a topic
I dug up my two dozen issues from the 1980’s, and they are a real blast from the past for me. I’ve signed on and have been downloading full pdf editions from the past 60 years with articles and photos I’ve never seen before. Another magazine I liked in the 80’s is CINEFEX. Sadly, they have just put out their final issue, about The Mandalorian. My few 1980’s issues had about 80 pages with no advertisements, and great behind the scenes color photos of shot set-ups. That mag was also too expensive for me to keep up a subscription at the time. If they had the same offer as American Cinematographer, I’d grab that even faster.1 point -
@Beritar the OP stated they're using a Pocket 4k, which does have a native DCI 4k sensor, so your remark is not really relevant to them (just to avoid any confusion ahead of time).1 point

Black magic 6k reliability question
Rob6 reacted to zerocool22 for a topic
I would not record to external disk, I mainly use Cfasts on bm pockets, and never had any issue whatsoever. (pocket 4K and 6K)1 point -
there's an approved list of cards for cameras here at the bmd forum https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=95785#p531283 you can use cheaper cards at some frame rates and quality levels. it tends to be an exercise in frustration figuring what you can get away with. Mind you that was with a p4k The 6k pro probably has higher minimum requirements.1 point

I can't speak for the 6k, but I've never had a problem witb the 4k. Blackmagic have a list of recommended media to record to. My first question would be, are the people experiencing issues using the recommended media, or cheaper alternatives?1 point

I’ve never heard of an issue with file corruption on the P6k. I know a lot of people who use them. The only camera I’ve ever had that issue on was my Panasonic S1 and I’m pretty sure it was due to a bad card.1 point

nice work persevering @kye, I kinda lent the other way. Lashed out on the gopro 9 yesterday. I figure its a decent upgrade over the 6 i have. I have some plans for it, not as extreme as yours however. i'll post something later1 point

Panasonic GH6
Thpriest reacted to currensheldon for a topic
GH6 kinda has to have some giant features to compete in a full-frame world. PDAF and internal NDs seems to be the two big ones for sure, but timecode, high frame rates in 4K and 6k, and black magic and ProRes raw would all help.1 point -

The Thread for Good Deals and Discounts
IronFilm reacted to homestar_kevin for a topic
Hey all, I grabbed both these lenses the last few weeks as funds allowed. Definitely a great deal going at adorama on Nikon Mount Rokinon Cine lenses. $220 for the 14mm 2.8 and $230 for the 24mm 1.4 $230 for a new 24mm f/1.4 is insane to me. https://www.adorama.com/rkcv14mn.html https://www.adorama.com/rkcv24mn.html They're on sale for all mounts, but that Nikon mount is really cheap right now it deserves mention!1 point -
Cameras become antique?
IronFilm reacted to TrueIndigo for a topic
Many years ago when I used to regularly read the photography magazines, I was reading an article about "Classic cameras" and was surprised to see my own camera (at the time I had two Pentax MX bodies) was included in the article! Having bought them new it made me feel quite old, especially when it said: "These cameras are still capable of serious work" -- I thought: well, I'm still seriously using mine anyway! With digital things get older much quicker, so it's just my 1970's lenses that still shine now. That's progress I suppose.1 point -
