    Zoom H6N in studio

I got the H6 Accessory Pack back when I bought my zoom, and the AC adapter that comes with that pack is literally a USB wall socket, so you'll be fine. In fact, I think I've used other USB sockets far more often than the original one. The original Zoom unit's output is 5.0V and 1.0A.

  3. There is a feature on the S1/S1H/S5 that you can determine which setting carry over from video to photo. This does exactly what you need it to do!

  4. I debated for a long time whether I would get one or another S5. Zero regrets, even with all the firmware updates to the S1. Mostly it was the size (false reports everywhere about how massive it is) though the cost played a part but I bought used (like new) model and in the hands it is near perfect ergo-wise and not heavy at all. And as a non-fan of flippy screens, the tilt that it has is perfect for me. 9/10 overall with just the single point removed as the AF is not on par with the likes of Fuji or Nikon, never mind Canon or Sony. It’s a proper pro piece of kit with the bonus that I can now sell my wedding videos to Netflix 🤑🤩🤔

  5. The S5 charges while off and gives it continuous power while on and in use, the only time I've seen the battery drain depends on the power source. If you plug it into a wall with something capable of suppling proper juice or a portable charger with pd power I even have a fx lion nano and use the usb c port on there to supply continuous power

  6. The 5DIII with magic lantern is definitely one of the best image around to this day. That's pitting it against current cameras too IMO. It also gives you a great and still very relevant EF lens eco system. If you are a Panasonic guy though I highly recommend the Pana S1. The GH5S is nice but the S1 is better in almost everyway. The GH5S has better HD and of course if you have a lot of M43 glass you wanna use it makes sense.

  7. Ah, I don't have one but assumed that because it has a stills/cine switch, it could store different settings. My bad. XT3 (as above), I used the silent video mode and flipped all the time. With my S5 and S1H, I simply have an indoor stills mode set to C1, an outdoor mode set to C2 and then 3 video modes, C3 1-3 (4k 25p, 4k 50p and 1080 100p).

  8. Full Disclosure: Besides being a camera enthusiast and working camera dude (I get paid weekly by my corporate clients in the photo and video realms), my day job is as a Sr. Software Engineer. To put things simply, a patent usually has a particular claim that is novel. The spell out in excruciating detail exactly how their technology achieves that claim. They also try and make the claim as broad as possible, to try and cover any and all possible uses and implementations. A quick look here will make you utterly sick with how broad and catch all many of the RED patents seem to be. But a quick look at this patent in particular, and you can see the claim, and how they accomplish what they do, and why it is novel, and that being visually lossless compression of a RAW motion video RAW of at least 23 frames per second. Of course there may be some ways to get around this. Just know that if you do try, you will most definitely have REDs lawyers knocking at your door. If they shut down Apple, they probably can shut down any company. As an aside, legal at my company really dissuades us from even looking at patents, as their is stiffer penalties if a company knowingly infringes on a patent, as opposed to creating a technology naturally that may violate a patent.

  9. It would be nice to see some analysis of that. Considering that images are just bunches of numbers, we can analyse them in almost any way that you can imagine, but we do basically no analysis whatsoever, but instead just fight about our preferred religion manufacturer online... It's quite sad really. What a fascinating thing - that BM RAW has processing on the RAW output.. that almost completely defeats the purpose of RAW! There's a way to work out how to un-do it in post, but it's a PITA to do. Sharpening isn't always bad, but it can always be added more in post, so manufacturers should only add it sparingly. I've heard that the Alexa adds a small amount of sharpening to the Prores, as the compression smooths some detail so they add a little back in to match the original look. In a normal camera they add sharpening, then compress the image with h264/5, which I think is the killer combo. Sharpening and blurring are mathematical opposites, so with the right algorithm you should be able to reverse the sharpening in post with blurring, but because there is a compression in-between so the information gets lost and by the time you blur enough to get rid of the edge sharpening then the image is blurry as hell.

  10. No imaginary control is more real than when Apple can't out lawyer it and China can't ignore it.

  11. Do you know the word humility? Yedlin's not just any old dude on the internet... the guy's an industry insider with butt-loads of films to back it up. I think he might know something on the topic of resolution.

  12. His test applies to the situations where there is image scaling and compression involved, which is basically every piece of content anyone consumes. If you're going to throw away an entire analysis based on a single point, then have a think about this: 1<0 and the sky is blue. uh oh, now I've said that 1<0, which clearly it isn't, then the sky can't be blue because everything I said must now logically be wrong and cannot be true!

    V5 - Any ETA?

It's done. Who wants to beta test it? I'll choose two people out of a hat lottery style that I can trust to give feedback about the settings.

  14. This is how you you do it on the gold Isco as well. What I dud was leave about an inch gap between the taking lens and scope. Just enough so I could get a, toothpick in one of the holes on the rear element. And I slightly turned it.
