It´s easy to second that. Best bang for buck regarding image quality. Would love to try out a Sigma FP due to its form factor but S1 is a technical marvel. Yesterday I visited a friend of mine. He used to work in a hotel in Berlin, which has been sold to investors so they can turn it into an office building. He has been working there for ten years. The hotel received financial aid from the state because of Covid and was able to maintain a small profit. Despite that it was sold and with it all labor of love and the stories and memories. So we roamed the rooms and floors and exiting sights. I filmed with a bargain zoom lens, which I bought for around ten EU I think, a Unitor 35 to 70, very soft when wide open in bright sunlight conditions and at longer distances. Still love that lens for its built and character. Shot in VLOG 10bit 25p with high shutter speeds. So here it goes, my lil poem, "Hotel Farewell", filmed with my S1 yesterday. Hope you enjoy. cheers

I will disagree with MRSMW 😁 a bit , I think x-t3 makes much financial sense when in essence you are buying the same camera as the X-T3. If you use either of the models for video ,power junkie will be your friend and I would not rate the X-T4 ibis that much. But horses for courses etc..

I'm not against him as a person. That's beside the point. He just feeds the same hype machine by receiving new gear to review when a company launches a new product, except he does it at the technical level. That's were the credibilty as a YT channel starts to crumble. YT is where a good part of the marketing budget is spent in the tech sector. That budget includes freebies for these guys, trips, special passes, etc. They are not journalists where you can expect at least a modicum of profesionalism and respect for the reader/viewer. They are here to sell hard and fast with links in the description below. But hey, at least some actual photogs/video pros still write some serious reviews on less well-known sites. Except they are not on YT and since it's 2021 they apparently don't matter anymore.

No problem. I'm unsure about the S5's hertz settings. I know there were some issues with other Panasonic cameras when you set to true 24p but since you're set to Pal/25p I don't think that should be the problem then. Are you noticing the flickering with all lettering, or just on letters/numbers on electronics? vLog is a nice profile and since the S5 uses the full log profile, it should be pretty good. But Panasonic has a couple nice profiles that can be a bit more forgiving and still offer a bump in dynamic range. I always liked Noam Kroll's settings for CineLikeD and Like709 seems to be pretty nice as well. But don't give up on VLog yet. The S5 has Dual Native ISO, so if you set to the higher ISO in lowlight, then that should help with the noise. Then you can either stop down, or use an ND to lower your exposure.

Thanks for the reply mercer - I have a lot to learn about V-Log I think. It might not be for me but I was drawn to it because the flickering I mentioned did not occur when I shot log. Can you set the Herz rating of the S5? I cannot find anything about that. I am PAL land so use 25 / 50p I did wonder if the problem was due to the artificial light - not fluorescent though, LED standard (modern) lightbulbs.

If 2K and 4K+ are only perceptually different with cameras that are very uncommon then who cares. You might care about this as a theoretical exercise for its own sake, but I'd suggest that not many other people do. If this was a thread comparing perceptual differences between 600x400 and 640x480 then no-one would have cared because it doesn't apply to the real world or to our lives in any way. This thread is only useful because of its applicability. See my above point.

I can understand not wanting a low-contrast look, but yeah, definite ease up on the blacks. especially in a dark environment with super bright highlights like you are dealing with, crushing the blacks will hide a lot of detail and make your scene too contrasty.

The whole point of the test was to compare the perceptibility of 2K vs higher resolutions. This is the point you keep missing. Determining if there is a difference between 2K and some other resolution on a camera that no-one ever uses is a useless test. Once again, missing the point.
