  1. So you want to spend more money so that you can then get a "XT4, rarely used"?? No, that doesn't seem like a wise way to spend money at all! Wait until you have "XT3, well used" first! Make the most of what you have currently, before thinking about spending even more money.

    z cam m4?

Hello, while i was searching for a XT4 to possibly replae my XT3 i came across some description of ezcam. Of course i knew it before, but i did not consider because its too basic setup, meaning that i would need a monitor at least and i don't know what else. Going deeper in to some articles i am realizang that it must be a very good quality camera. I have seen a sample video and it seems amazing. I am getting really interested at it, but i would like to have opinion from real users, first of all about the minimum setup needed. For my budget i think i would not go beyong the M4. Wait for your opinion, i was really excited after watching a video

  3. $1500 for that same ugly/chunky form factor from the Ninja V, a massive hardware upgrade with an equally massive bezel. Awesome capability, but I'll stick with the regular Ninja V - which occasionally goes on sale for $500, that's when I picked one up. Chris

  4. Cool that you're getting use out of yours! I'd imagine that people using it for drone work are also quite satisfied, as that's what it's really designed for. To each their own 🙂

  5. Could you imagine that there are some twisted weirdos out there who enjoy this???

  6. For the current TV Series I'm on, then we're using an EVA1 for 2nd Unit as their A Cam, and an EVA1 on Main Unit as D Cam. (and an AMIRA is G Cam! ha) That's me! (when I'm not working 100hr+ weeks.... but sometimes even when I am) The secret is to pre-drink 😉

  7. It's dirt dirt cheap though! And if you're trying to self film yourself (especially without a flip out screen) then max F4 is not at all a bad thing. Those two factors mean I like to use it often.

  8. I do the same. I know everyone loves the shallow DOF look for interviews, but I'd rather give up a little of that than risk AF. I tend to stick around the F2.8 or F3.5 mark when I'm shooting interviews to give me some wiggle room. My main focus is getting the subject as far away from the background as possible and if that's just not possible then its just not going to be as out of focus.

  9. Sorry to rehash an old thread, but I've been scouring the forums and can't seem to find much on the subject.. I was just wondering, does anyone know if there's any reason why the GH5S wouldn't be capable of receiving a firmware update for the tweaked v-log L that is now in the BGH1? I was just curious as I keep reading the BGH1 is essentially a rehoused GH5S so it seems like it could handle it, right?

  10. Thank you Ben. I used this simple "super8" rig style. It is very easy to attach and dettach the pistol grip and the viewfinder, so I had it all in a dslr bag. Totally agree! I thought many times to buy a second hand C300 or C100MkII for the usability (good audio preamps, internals nds, high capacity batteries)...but I knew that I would not like those clipping highlights that reminds me an old Canon DSLR when I had to edit and do the color grading. Thank you!. I think exactly the same as you. I have a GH4 and I had and an A7s (I also worked many times with A7sii, A7iii, Fs5 and Fs7) and a GH5s, and I had to spend a lot of time reasearching in internet and testing, to get a more filmic texture and good skintones from them. Also, I think that the old blackmagics are the best (cheap) cameras for mixing light (and poor CRI) conditions. Now I am preparing a documentary and I have convinced the director to shoot with the micro and the old pocket for various reasons, one of them is that due to the fear of covid some of the protagonists refuse the make up to avoid a person so close, and I know that blackmagics cameras will help with skintones.

  11. This is from a resolution test of the ARRI Alexa: Source is here: https://tech.ebu.ch/docs/tech/tech3335_s11.pdf (top of page 10) Pretty obvious that the red has significantly less resolution than the green. This is from the number of green vs red photosites on the sensor. But you're totally right - this has no impact on a test about resolution at all!

  12. Up by this point in the discussion, I think both of you (tupp, kye) are deep into your own trench and will never settle with the other. Yedlin’s test is for the world he is living in which is of world class feature film budgets, not “everyone’s regular 4:2:0 cameras “ or “monochrome, foveon or ccd sensor cameras”. Moving pictures have a way of pulling you into a story, engaging the viewer with more than pretty detailed pictures. Once you consider that filmmakers (world class directors, producers, cinematographers) are the target audience for his tests, it gives both of you and your valid points a perspective and a way to back off to more productive discussions.

  13. Yeah, best to wait until (after) the summer. Prices will drop as soon as people can spend there money on other things...

  14. This is how I work. Unless you are doing really high end stuff nobody pays enough to grade everything and many times it's just not necessary.

  15. Yes, audio is as much of a discipline as video and of course normally it is done by a dedicated person, so having to do both is a tall order for anyone. Plus what you have to do is taxing of itself - having to pick up intelligible and clear speech from various individuals, ambience etc. It is one of those truisms too that bad sound will be rejected by the public much more readily and quickly than dodgy images. I don't think the sound on the Panasonic module is bad btw, I just have a much lower tolerance as a sound person. I suspect most people would not notice what I do. One test you could do if you haven't done it so far is to plug headphones into the cam (in a very quiet environment) and ride the audio outputs on the cam and XLR module and find the settings that produce the least hiss which I very much expect would mean lowering the cam record input.

  17. It works perfect on the GH5. I'm not an audio person, so to me the audio sounds fine. I've never had a problem with noise from the module and anything minor I've been able to clean up in Fairlight; but since I'm not an audio person it is possible what sounds good to me isn't actually that good. The XLR module was one of my favorite GH5 accessories, and the fact that it worked with the S5 was a major selling point for me. I do wonder if maybe the lav mics I am using is causing the issues. But I remember I had a problem with the module and my Sennheiser wireless receiver as well. Very annoying problem to say the least. I am going to do a lot more testing before my next job to see if it is something that is my fault. Personally, I've always found audio the most difficult part of videography, between placing the mics, dealing with room treatment or lack thereof, trying to keep the audio from peaking, trying to keep the mic from rubbing against clothing, trying to block ambient noises like the wind; etc......its very obvious why it is a whole specialty in and of itself.

  18. I've only used the S1 but yes from what I can see it holds a few advantages to the S5 other than size. IBIS is supposedly better, full size hdmi is priceless, the new firmware takes it close to the S1H, those with an S5 may be able to tell you what is better on the smaller model. With vlog upgrade I have to say the S1 image is hard to beat, DR and colour both are amazing
