  1. I see a tons people complaining about the marketing/hype machine that is the "filmmaking sector" of YouTube, and I hate a lot of those clichés too. That being said, it has been in the back of my mind to try out for a while, so yesterday I had some free time and I finally decided to give it a go! Turns out it's actually a lot harder to film yourself and talk right to camera than I anticipated (I very quickly abandoned my plans to shoot it anamorphic, focusing on my S1, all by myself, was just way too difficult) and the whole process took me far longer to shoot and edit than I expected. Anyway, here's my (first ever) attempt at this kind of video: I'm assuming a good number of users on here consume as much YouTube as I (sometimes regretfully) do? I've always considered Eoshd as a cut above the rest of the internet filmmaking-afficcionado crowd. I'd love to see anything anyone else on here is making in this space too, and/or see if we can start a discussion about good, lesser-known channels to follow that aren't specifically about shoving gear/affiliate links and clickbait sensation down our throats.

  2. Like the original Pocket6K, there is a far bigger argument for it having an MFT mount. You can still have electronic control of EF lenses with non-speedboosted adapters, you can have a windowed mode for the native MFT electronic lenses, the manual MFT lenses like Voigtlander and Meike etc all cover the s35 sensor and of course, with the shallower mount, you are able to put PL mount lenses on it. It makes it a lot more sense for P4K owners to upgrade to/replace/augment their setups as well. Like JVC found though, trying to undo the pre-conceived notion of the relationship between the mount size and the sensor size being absolute is a bit of a tough sell. To be fair, Blackmagic also have their higher end cameras with EF mount so from the point of view of the Pocket6K being a B cam for those it makes sense. I'd be interested to know from which direction the majority of the Pocket6K sales are coming though, as A cams for Pocket4K/new owners or B cams for Ursa owners. Going the sidefinder route like Sigma have with the Fp so that all three flavours of Pocket could have had benefited from the new EVF would have been nice.

  3. Interest in vintage lenses is directly correlated to sensor resolution, so it's up up up up up....... I saw a post the other day from someone saying that the second-hand price of one particular vintage lens had gone up 4X in about the last year.

  4. This light looks like an absolute beast, I'm glad I haven't picked up an Aputure 600D yet! 1.2kW LED, this sucker is BRIGHT. More info here: http://www.nanlux.com/en/h-col-175.html

  5. Sounds to me like a lot of us here aren't the target audience for Blackmagic. Not everyone wants to adapt lenses, look up compatibility charts, etc. Wanting MFT mount with S35 sensor or a mount specifically designed for adapting is a little bit like Gerald Undone saying the fp-L isn't worth its price because it has high rolling shutter and poor ergonomics. The truth is, EF is still the most common lens out there. BM isn't competing for the users that want to look for custom handles, screens, and lens mounts. Want choice? Go for Z Cam--or maybe some of the internet folks are actually more interested in complaining about the design philosophy of companies they aren't buying from, than buying into the camera with the features they talk about.

  6. The body shape is just... disgusting (and that’s coming from someone who owns and uses a P4K). They should just make the screen AND EVF each a $500 extra, and reshape the body into something more like RED/Kinefinity/ZCam/BGH1.

  7. It's still available. Look at Shooter's Guide menu on front page. https://www.eoshd.com/eoshd-shooters-guide-sony-a7-a7r-lenses/ Have you seen the prices of Canon FD 24mm f1.4L lately? 🙂

  9. Is it just me? But I can't seem to find my copy. I bought Andrew's guide to vintage lenses quite a few years back. In my opinion it was the best guide in this space that I'd seen. Is it not for sale anymore? Or am I just not looking in the right place? In any case, it should be on sale, and an updated version would be well received! Or are we all over vintage lenses?

  10. @zerocool22 You should definitely share it when you get it going, I'd love to glean some of that wisdom (I mean, who wouldn't!) I've got 10 years to do it! 😬

  11. Oh yeah thats true. Hope blackmagic will release a full frame camera, then EF would make a lot more sense indeed.

  12. Lovely! Keep it up, Parker! Now, I wish Andrew would post more again. Back then his videos where my hightlights of the day coming home from work in the evening.

  13. Good start and hats off (literally, no reversed baseball cap, never mind purple or blue backlighting) to you for making the effort. I think any channel that is authentic should succeed. As long as you enjoy it. Bon courage as they say in my part of the world!

  15. Thanks Parker, I appreciate that. I'm still a reader, I just need to film more stuff. Cool Panavision t-shirt, btw. If your channel takes off, you can make some Parkervision shirts to commemorate your maiden voyage.

  16. Awesome, I liked it. I am starting a channel soon as well. Not focussed on film making itself though. Prolly start next month.

  17. That was an honest way to start off a channel. Good job and good luck!

  18. Nope. But then I said the same about having a blog about 10 years back and then also laughed at people with mobile phone and refused to get one for years, never mind an iPhone...and am typing this on my 8+ 😀 So never say never, but actually, in this regard, almost certainly never. Hate myself on camera. Sound, even worse. Most of all, can’t be bothered and have no reason, so will enjoy others more suited efforts instead. I will watch yours later Parker!

  19. Why not a changeable mount so one could choose.

  21. Latest rumour mentions that GH6 will not be 8k and they are focusing on 4K. https://www.43rumors.com/really-looks-like-there-will-two-gh-cameras-this-year-the-new-gh5ii-and-a-future-new-gh6/

  22. Fun to read about the history. Even when they went all in with the most advanced 8mm camera it was always a side show compared to photography though. If you look how diverse Fuji are now, making covid drugs and stuff... Compared to Nikon which basically only has two product lines - cameras and lithography - It spells trouble for them as they are just not exploiting the demand in other areas.

  23. I am taking my FD 24 1.4 L to Sydney to a major camera store for them to sell on consignment... I will not get anywhere near th $4000 minimum they seem to go for on Ebay but I expect to get enough for a decent portrait lens or a decent (older) FF camera or even a Sony Rx10 iv.

  24. Whether or not the glass is the same IS a question. I also think the build quality of the whole unit is part of it. Beyond the glass and shroud, there the mount for the tablet/screen, rod system and mounting system for the camera. The Ali one looks less flexible/adjustable than say the unit I bought, which uses a more convention 15mm rods like any other camera rig. Actually, I was thinking about buying longer rails for a rig, so it's nice that I can just use the ones from my prompter if necessary. Not that the rods alone justify the cost difference. I can see glass and build quality, plus the addition of a remote, differentiating a ~$300 and a ~$700 system. What's the selling point/justification for a ~$2,000 teleprompter rig? I have no idea.

  25. I was just about to chime in with another ikan teleprompter recommendation. I recently picked up the Elite V2 Universal, which you can get with a remote that works with both iPad and Android-based teleprompters and probably some other tablet operating system. It is about $700, so way les than the $2K version but still out of your price range. If you could squeeze some more cash out of the budget, the Elite V2 does seem to be a nicely built unit. You do have to pay a couple bucks more for an prompter app for your tablet of choice that is compatible with remote. I think it's worth it. I used this on a shoot recently with talent that had never presented to camera before. Once she got the hang of using the remote, it was super helpful for her to control the speed of the prompter and rewind the script to the proper mark when redoing a take. I could stay behind the camera, so the shoot went pretty smooth. I like the image quality I got from the ikan. It matched up very well with my b-cam that wasn't using a prompter, so I don't think the glass degrades the image quality in any appreciable way. I only wish I'd gotten this thing sooner. I don't do a lot of stuff with direct-to-camera shots, but I can think of some I've recently done what would have turned out miles better with this thing. Whichever way you go with your prompter decision, good luck.

  26. Wow. I'm a goof. After 3 days and like 6 visits into Premiere, I finally clicked on the correct source tab! Damn this tiny m1 Mac screen! If you click on Effect Controls tab, you then have to click on the Source tab nested under that (rather than the source tab at the same level as Effect Controls). Whew! Now I have the ability adjust Color Temp, Tint, Exposure, Color Space and Gamma as if I were doing it in camera!!! Too bad Premiere is the slowest piece of software on Earth. But, beggars can't be choosers.

  27. Via Panasonic Instagram. It looks like multiple GH bodies could be announced. "We are pleased to announce that they will present an expanded lineup of the popular LUMIX GH series at an online launch event. The event will be held at https://www.panasonic.com/global/consumer/lumix/ on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at 14:00 UTC. . We are committed to addressing further to enhance the G Series lineup and performance of conventional Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and lenses to meet the continuous demands of creators who value the strong advantage that only MFT can offer. . More information will be updated in the future posts on the official Instagram account @lumix until May 25, 2021."

  28. Managed to fly this C70 + Sigma 18-35 + RS2 combo all day today, not as heavy as I thought it will. Ronin was chewing lots of battery vs when I fly my R5, down to like 25% at end of the day vs ~50% when i fly R5 + 24-70 2.8.

  30. Update on my broken S5 that no-one will be interested in: Finally got it returned. Screen fixed. Gave it a test run and . . . none of the buttons on the back except play and veiwfinder buttons work any more including the focus type switch!! The camera is now totally useless. Can't believe it. Rang the repair company direct and they were surprised but at least contrite and back it will go. I suspect there is some small connecting wire they forgot to re-attach but then didn't think to press any of those buttons to test it since the screen works fine (and all the buttons and wheels on the top). I did enquire of the company I bought it from that really I should be able to ask for a replacement camera. They agreed but claimed stocks are non-existent and supply times for new stock is months away, all due to the pandemic. Do I believe that? Dunno but I decided pushing it would only stress me out even more so repair again it is. Sigh.
