Thoughts on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro - why EF mount?
MurtlandPhoto and 2 others reacted to KnightsFan for a topic
Sounds to me like a lot of us here aren't the target audience for Blackmagic. Not everyone wants to adapt lenses, look up compatibility charts, etc. Wanting MFT mount with S35 sensor or a mount specifically designed for adapting is a little bit like Gerald Undone saying the fp-L isn't worth its price because it has high rolling shutter and poor ergonomics. The truth is, EF is still the most common lens out there. BM isn't competing for the users that want to look for custom handles, screens, and lens mounts. Want choice? Go for Z Cam--or maybe some of the internet folks are actually more interested in complaining about the design philosophy of companies they aren't buying from, than buying into the camera with the features they talk about.3 points -
Am I trying the whole "YouTuber thing"?? Yes. But no. https://www.youtube.com/SoundSpeeding/ YUP! Gets a lot trickier once you point the camera at yourself and need to formulate words coherently, rather than staying preferably behind the camera.2 points

Any other EOSHD'ers trying the whole YouTube thing?
John Matthews reacted to Parker for a topic
I see a tons people complaining about the marketing/hype machine that is the "filmmaking sector" of YouTube, and I hate a lot of those clichΓ©s too. That being said, it has been in the back of my mind to try out for a while, so yesterday I had some free time and I finally decided to give it a go! Turns out it's actually a lot harder to film yourself and talk right to camera than I anticipated (I very quickly abandoned my plans to shoot it anamorphic, focusing on my S1, all by myself, was just way too difficult) and the whole process took me far longer to shoot and edit than I expected. Anyway, here's my (first ever) attempt at this kind of video: I'm assuming a good number of users on here consume as much YouTube as I (sometimes regretfully) do? I've always considered Eoshd as a cut above the rest of the internet filmmaking-afficcionado crowd. I'd love to see anything anyone else on here is making in this space too, and/or see if we can start a discussion about good, lesser-known channels to follow that aren't specifically about shoving gear/affiliate links and clickbait sensation down our throats.1 point -

Interesting article, that unfortunately I don't have time to finish reading right now. I'll definitely come back when I can give it my full attention! However, I wanted mention that there are paparazzi laws in France. I'm not sure if it's a result of this subject, or if it was already the case / brought in by something else. But it certainly shows something can be done about those parasites.1 point -
be careful of what ? if i can acheive some thing similar i'll be happy. I know its a vintage lens and price wise its the cheapest lens, i have actually come across in quite some time. You can watch a bunch of youtubes on lens reviews and they'll all say they got it cheap and then you go search for it, its 4 times the price. this lens is actually cheapish even when you factor in the aussie dollar. the lens flare might be the only interesting thing in its arsenal but for me its worthwhile for its price.1 point

Disappointing Panasonic GH5 Mark II specs leak in Japan β Where is the GH6?
majoraxis reacted to currensheldon for a topic
If they are sticking with 4k (which is fine if it is downsampled from 6k), then they really need to soup it up in other ways: - Raw to SSD (hopefully BRaw or ProRes Raw) - Internal electronic ND (this would be huge) - Some nice internal codecs like ProRes - 180-240fps in 10-bit 4k - Best IBIS in the business (which the GH5 had) - Full V-Log, 13-14 stops of dynamic range - Timecode! (which I assume it will have like S1H) - Great video AF - either ToF or PDAF. Too many (not that much more expensive) full frame cameras can do 120fps in 4k, 8k, raw over HDMI, etc to just put out a solid update. Needs to be include some BIG upgrades (Raw and NDs would be very attention-grabbing). The GH5 was pretty revolutionary in its specs, but it faced no competition in the 10-bit, 4k, IBIS, XLR capture arenas when it was released. Now, not so much.1 point -
im not addicted. I just want one of every interesting lens, that i can lay my hands on π google is no longer my friend. Accidently found a nikon lens that flares with lots of little circles. i will say that i am somewhat enamored with lens flares. Its price is quite realistic, cheaper that the last couple of lenses i have bought anyway. So it will most likely get added to the collection. In the meantime i'm sposed to be saving for btm's miraculous p4k lens controller thingy but lenses keep getting in the way. π1 point

Whatever they do, people will complain. If they did what you suggest, like with the Micro, a lot of people would complain about having to rig it up because 'it doesn't even have a monitor!?!'. So, instead they put the screen on, a nice big one and people complain that it doesn't tilt, or it's not bright enough. So they make it brighter, and tiltable. But now, people want them to take it off completely? Eventually, the only way to make people happy is to sell cameras in the way Apple sell their laptops. You choose from a selection of sensors, mounts, body shapes, screen sizes, media types, audio inputs, battery types etc. Then customer can mix and match to make the camera they want. Although, even then, people will complain because the HDMI socket can only go on one side of the body, and I'm left handed, so it's a bit annoying.1 point

Nikon should focus its attention on anamorphic. Affordable Anamorphic lenses and camera system and they can corner the market.1 point

Just got mine in the mail. Ran it for an hour and have already disassembled it π Fan swap is relatively easy, I might make a video on it when more parts come in, I tried a Noctua 120mm 7 or 900 rpm and it doesn't push enough air. EZ to damage the male JST connector on the board though - more cosmetic than anything else. It's louder than my computer!1 point -
Lovely! Keep it up, Parker! Now, I wish Andrew would post more again. Back then his videos where my hightlights of the day coming home from work in the evening.1 point

Thoughts on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro - why EF mount?
newfoundmass reacted to BTM_Pix for a topic
Like the original Pocket6K, there is a far bigger argument for it having an MFT mount. You can still have electronic control of EF lenses with non-speedboosted adapters, you can have a windowed mode for the native MFT electronic lenses, the manual MFT lenses like Voigtlander and Meike etc all cover the s35 sensor and of course, with the shallower mount, you are able to put PL mount lenses on it. It makes it a lot more sense for P4K owners to upgrade to/replace/augment their setups as well. Like JVC found though, trying to undo the pre-conceived notion of the relationship between the mount size and the sensor size being absolute is a bit of a tough sell. To be fair, Blackmagic also have their higher end cameras with EF mount so from the point of view of the Pocket6K being a B cam for those it makes sense. I'd be interested to know from which direction the majority of the Pocket6K sales are coming though, as A cams for Pocket4K/new owners or B cams for Ursa owners. Going the sidefinder route like Sigma have with the Fp so that all three flavours of Pocket could have had benefited from the new EVF would have been nice.1 point -

Nikon cinema line?
Zeng reacted to BrooklynDan for a topic
A line of Nikon cine primes would be an instant hit. Nikon manual focus glass has always been popular for filmmaking going back to the days of Vistavision, but their latest generation of still glass just has hopelessly crunchy and awkward mechanics that make smooth focusing impossible. Which is a shame since the glass is magnificent, with warm, beautiful skintones, smooth fall-off, subtle vignetting, and some of the best bokeh around. It looks like a mix of Cooke and Leica, but with a little Panavision character tossed in. If they rehoused their existing high speed G-series lenses into a sturdy cinema housing (like Zeiss does with the Compact Primes) with interchangeable mount, DPs would be all over it. As far as cameras go, trying to compete in the mirrorless arena is a waste of time for them, in my opinion. Too late, too crowded and always stuck behind Sony thanks to their sensors being inside Nikon cameras. Would rather see them release something more niche and out of the box.1 point -
What the specs never say is the bit depth used to scan the sensor. When stills are taken one might expect the full bit-depth is used (14-bit?). But in video mode, to reduce rolling shutter, a read-out mode with reduced bit-depth may be used. For 8-bit log or gamma-corrected recordings a 10 bit (lineair) read mode might be used. If that same 10-bit linear mode is used to create a 10-bit log, the quality wouldn't be much better than with an 8-bit log except for reduction of round-off errors.1 point

If you went for the TechArt then a cheap M42-M adapter stuck on it will give you autofocus capability for them. It works far better (in stills at least which is what you say is your primary use for it) than I'd imagined when I bought it.1 point
