Any other EOSHD'ers trying the whole YouTube thing?
John Matthews and one other reacted to Parker for a topic
I see a tons people complaining about the marketing/hype machine that is the "filmmaking sector" of YouTube, and I hate a lot of those clichés too. That being said, it has been in the back of my mind to try out for a while, so yesterday I had some free time and I finally decided to give it a go! Turns out it's actually a lot harder to film yourself and talk right to camera than I anticipated (I very quickly abandoned my plans to shoot it anamorphic, focusing on my S1, all by myself, was just way too difficult) and the whole process took me far longer to shoot and edit than I expected. Anyway, here's my (first ever) attempt at this kind of video: I'm assuming a good number of users on here consume as much YouTube as I (sometimes regretfully) do? I've always considered Eoshd as a cut above the rest of the internet filmmaking-afficcionado crowd. I'd love to see anything anyone else on here is making in this space too, and/or see if we can start a discussion about good, lesser-known channels to follow that aren't specifically about shoving gear/affiliate links and clickbait sensation down our throats.2 points -
Princess Diana - death by a million clicks
Eric lopez reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Photographers and tabloid paparazzi are said to have played a significant role in the death of Princess Diana in the 1990s. Now there are new revelations about the role journalists at the BBC played in her life and events leading to her death. However, there is more to this story than meets the eye. @ParkerOld school focusing trick for self shooting. From where you will be sitting / standing, take the camera and focus on the tripod where you will be placing the camera. Of course, doesn't help for framing or exposure, but it's a start.1 point -
Princess Diana - death by a million clicks

Led by the newspaper columnist fired from the Times for making quotes up from his own godfather, who then went on to fabricate stories about the EU at the Telegraph that seeded Brexit and has somehow ended up being the actual Prime Minister. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/jul/14/boris-johnson-brussels-bashing-stories-shaped-politics As for Kelvin Mackenzie, this clip where he gets a taste of his own medicine from another journalist after the real "truth" of his role in the despicable lies told about the Hillsborough disaster and stood behind for 20 years were fully exposed tells you all you need to know about him. The ongoing collusion between the UK government and Murdoch is very well illustrated in this chart from the Press Gazette in February showing meeting with government ministers by publication.1 point -

Any call by the privately owned press to defund the BBC should be ignored completly. If ever there was an agenda...1 point

your a bad bad man, mark romero 2 😀 might be good business for armourguard, guarding all those lens collections. Although i think i have done my bit for humanity, redistributing the wealth during this corona virus.1 point -
Am I trying the whole "YouTuber thing"?? Yes. But no. https://www.youtube.com/SoundSpeeding/ YUP! Gets a lot trickier once you point the camera at yourself and need to formulate words coherently, rather than staying preferably behind the camera.1 point

Thoughts on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro - why EF mount?
newfoundmass reacted to MurtlandPhoto for a topic
I sooooo wanted JVC to find success here. The camera itself wasn't quite right for me, but a Panasonic or Blackmagic camera doing the same thing would almost certainly found its way into my kit.1 point -

Thanks Parker, I appreciate that. I'm still a reader, I just need to film more stuff. Cool Panavision t-shirt, btw. If your channel takes off, you can make some Parkervision shirts to commemorate your maiden voyage.1 point -

Thoughts on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro - why EF mount?
newfoundmass reacted to BTM_Pix for a topic
Like the original Pocket6K, there is a far bigger argument for it having an MFT mount. You can still have electronic control of EF lenses with non-speedboosted adapters, you can have a windowed mode for the native MFT electronic lenses, the manual MFT lenses like Voigtlander and Meike etc all cover the s35 sensor and of course, with the shallower mount, you are able to put PL mount lenses on it. It makes it a lot more sense for P4K owners to upgrade to/replace/augment their setups as well. Like JVC found though, trying to undo the pre-conceived notion of the relationship between the mount size and the sensor size being absolute is a bit of a tough sell. To be fair, Blackmagic also have their higher end cameras with EF mount so from the point of view of the Pocket6K being a B cam for those it makes sense. I'd be interested to know from which direction the majority of the Pocket6K sales are coming though, as A cams for Pocket4K/new owners or B cams for Ursa owners. Going the sidefinder route like Sigma have with the Fp so that all three flavours of Pocket could have had benefited from the new EVF would have been nice.1 point -

Interest in vintage lenses is directly correlated to sensor resolution, so it's up up up up up....... I saw a post the other day from someone saying that the second-hand price of one particular vintage lens had gone up 4X in about the last year.1 point -
What teleprompter to buy?
newfoundmass reacted to Mark Romero 2 for a topic
Thank you. I will look into it. The voice activated ones are great... when they work. I remember that in some scripts I would write in the word [PAUSE] to get the talent to pause for effect. So... sometimes the app wouldn't scroll anymore unless the talent actually said the word "pause."1 point -
What teleprompter to buy?
newfoundmass reacted to Snowfun for a topic
I constructed a holder for my iPad which sits above the lens (on 15mm rails). I use a Bluetooth controller but rather than using a teleprompt app I simply put my text into a Keynote (Apple’s PowerPoint) presentation, breaking it up nicely and click to advance to the next slide. This actually introduces a natural pause too. I’m not looking into the lens but at an “upper body” distance one wouldn’t notice. The holder also supports a laptop (which sits on top of the cage) if required. All works well for my needs. Highly adaptable as I use it with the P4k, Aida HD100 (a super little camera) or A7Siii just by changing the height and position on the rods. I did think about going down the angled glass route but decided that it was expensive diminishing returns.1 point
