It will only work if there is some special sauce related to Apple hardware. Otherwise, just buy Resolve. I would still like to see a few built-in, hardware accelerated features that are included with Resolve, namely: Content-aware erase tool for video, 3D tracking of most objects via Neural Engine, a "AI" assisted color matching tool that is a 90% solution for quick and dirty color matching (I would use this for drone footage). Anything else I'm happy to have covered by plug-ins and keep the core of FCP fast and performant.

Performance is more important than dog-slow features IMO. A "feature" should work well out of the box, not in 10 years (the amount of time it takes for enough people to complain for them to improve it). You only use features that are worth using; otherwise, they're not features, just eternal frustrations. I hope Apple doesn't change now or ever. If they do, I'll be looking elsewhere.

There was some mumblings about Apple moving FCP to this model. Most likely in a bundle with their other Pro apps like Motion 5. I think this is a terrible idea, especially since they aren't feature complete like some other apps...however their performance is top notch.

I've watched some of their videos in the past and found them very good. They're quite slow, considering they cover everything and don't assume prior knowledge, but are very thorough. What is especially valuable, and you almost can't get anywhere else, is that they give you hints of how they designed Resolve to work and the architecture of it all. If you have the time and patience then watching the videos might be good value. Not sure what value certification would give you unless you're a pro looking for work though, and you're likely to have to re-certify every new version.

I agree with shooting for the Sony Alpha A1 and adapting F mount lenses until you grow native E mount. Alpha A1 seems to do pretty good at everything and has 8K video and improved DR over what you have. Canon just doesn't have enough native RF lenses yet and since you don't have any EF lenses, it really doesn't make much sense to buy anything from Canon.

Nice to hear it said out loud: "the Emperor has no clothes" I would love for people to be able to say what they think publicly without free of being cancelled, like Roger Waters did. Seeing action without fear is refreshing regardless of the explicatives.

I watched a few of the videos on color grading and a few on the new features in DR 17. Very comprehensive for things like color grading and general use. I do wish they provided more in depth training for Fusion. Most of the really good Fusion tutorials you have to get from YouTube and the SFX artists who work in Hollywood. I'll admit, I was really into learning Fusion when I first switched to DR from PP, but the constant performance issues and crashing was a big turnoff and I haven't really touched Fusion since. The rest of DR though is rock solid.

It's not the camera I'd be concerned about, it's the lenses and I think it may be time to dump F mount. I'd be tempted to get a Sony A1 which seems a good fit for your high-resolution needs plus cutting edge video specs. Then I'd be tempted to put all the Nikon lenses on eBay 🙂 Start investing in the native E-mount Sigma range.

There are a number of F mount to E mount adapters with full autofocus available that would give you a path to Sony without sacrificing the lens collection. Similarly, there are also E to Z mount adapters so that you could then share E mount lenses with your Z6. That way you could use the budget to really push the boat out and get a Sony A1 to give you a bump that you are after in video (8K I'm guessing would be a client pleaser from a marketing perspective) and it also does ProResRAW but also you'd get a big bump in stills with its 50mp sensor. You could then also get that Sigma 105mm in E mount and be able to use it natively on the A1 but also with the adapter on the Z6. I think if you went this route then you'd get the immediate bump that you are looking for but also be able to hedge against the release of the Z9 as I'm guessing Nikon is really where your heart is and you're not yet ready to fully abandon ship just yet. Far cheaper too as it would be half your budget.

OK, I’ll play… Nikon Z7ii for stills and a Z6ii for video with Atomos recorder. Or sell the lot and go for a Panasonic S1H based system 😍

A few members have reported that the RTX3080 can edit the files from Canon. Your 10bit question was a bit vague though, there's a big difference in editing 10bit 4:2:0 footage which is what everyone but Canon offers vs. Canon who only outputs 10bit 4:2:2. For 4:2:0 footage nearly any modern card will do, I'm using an RTX2080Ti to edit my S5 10 bit 4:2:0 footage. This same setup couldn't even playback 4:2:2 10 bit footage from the Canon R6. IMO PP has been hot garbage for many years....the day they started charging a monthly subscription fee was the day they went into the dumpster for me. I switched to Davinci Resolve and it was the best thing I have done in a long time. DR 17 is definitely the best version yet and it just keeps getting better. Once they improve the performance of Fusion it will truly have no equal in my book.

The great thing is you can just stick it on Aperture priority and Auto ISO, and concentrate on getting the shot perfectly with pristine image quality, no noise to speak of. Try doing that on the A7S III or EOS R6!
