  1. I concur and have had the RX100v and currently have the ZV1.

  2. There is an argument to be made for using faster lenses with these older cameras, based on their lower bitrate codecs. Simply put, the limited bitrate struggles then given too much motion and detail to try and replicate. This is why video of snow-storms, waves, etc often descend into mush - the bitrate doesn't hold up when the frame has lots of detail and motion. Placing the camera on a tripod is a great way to limit the motion - when the background doesn't move then the bitrate can focus on what is moving and give it a higher image quality. It's the same with having shallower Depth of Field, as it makes more of the frame out-of-focus and therefore much easier to describe, so the compression gives those parts less bitrate and is able to put more bitrate into the things that are in focus. It might seem rather strange to pair these older cheaper cameras with super-fast super-expensive lenses, but that's how the math works out.

  3. For something different, what about a 1 inch sensor compact. Some of the Sony RX100 cameras have amazing AF and can focus quite close and later if she wants to upgrade you can still sell them for a decent amount if looked after. Sound would have to be maybe done apart unless you get one with a mic input. The AF in my little Rx100 iv is great and that is old now and the last of the CDAF only RX100s so the v and va are better still or maybe the Sony ZV-1 might be good (if pricey...Maybe used?) Or even an older and newer model combination.... The coming APSC ZV-E10 would be ideal but too dear. Any of the other large sensor compacts? Canon? Panasonic?

  4. Interesting test, but that shot at 0:11s really falls apart... not sure if it's the compression or what, but the right-hand edge of the figures practically fades in over a few frames as they walk in front of the background. Maybe have a look at the A7Sii videos people did in ultra low light and see how they got the results they got. IIRC they also used faster lenses.
