    The end of EOSHD

Exactly what I said (-still) when I saw our first test with the GH2/Lomo in the streets of Lyon with Alice, our lovely and sharp First AD: And the final trailer was representative of the film: Again, THANKS TO ANDREW and everyone in the EOSHD community who inspired us to take the leap with the GH2/Lomo... and supported us as we tried out Driftwood hacks... and finished the film!!

  2. Yep, it's not EOSHD that's the problem it's me! I need to get my enthusiasm back. It's been a tough time. Thanks for the comments guys, it is helping me figure things out a lot.

  4. I have an S1H and love it. Amazing IQ. starting from scratch, I’d probably go for the box for modularity and adaptability on gimbals and for looooong run times on cinema batteries. As well as easier mounting and rigging for external monitors/recorders. but, it is weird that Panasonic just didn’t call this the S2H or EVA-2 and go full on update - internal NDs, new sensor to give us 4k 120fps, better RS, full-frame slow-mo in 4K or 6k, whatever their new AF will be, etc. same specs as two years ago while Sony and Canon have been pumping out all the latest tech and numerous bodies in the same time frame is a bit frustrating. This camera will still have a better image than anything those companies put out under $15k, but there are other considerations too (frame rates, no crop, internal raw, etc). I’m guessing that camera will come in a mirrorless body in the next year, but I really would like to have it in this box form factor or something like an FX6.

  5. Sliders are definitely not underrated on professional shoots. Most grips have a Dana Dolly in the van and it gets used most shoots. Obviously movement is more limited than a gimbal but the results are far better.

Mandorla... I remember that: https://www.eoshd.com/creative-filmmaking/shooting-a-feature-with-the-panasonic-gh2-and-lomo-anamorphic-lenses/ Andrew doesn't need to make anything else to be the inspiration his pioneer work as influencer before many others has been for so many other people as much as Jonas Mekas I had the pleasure to personally meet was for previous generations and still is. I even think Andrew must be careful because he has a legacy to defend and this must be preserved. EAG :- )

  7. Found this, 11 hours to go on IGG before to become available (or not) through indemand route, I suppose, in any case I wonder how many from you have any thoughts about? More EOSHD valuable info on topic here and there.

  9. I shot on the NX1/NX500 as my primary cameras from 2014-2019, before I moved onto an S1/GH5 combo which I'm still happily using currently. I couldn't care less about autofocus (I primarily shoot vintage contax zeiss or anamorphic) so the S1 is an excellent successor to the NX1 for my needs, especially after it's semi-recent updates of 6k internal, pro res raw, output, etc. I still love the NX1 and I don't think I'll ever sell it, but while it still has an incredibly detailed image, as amazing as it was back in 2014, no 10-bit modes, no 4k60, no IBIS, no log profile, really strong rolling shutter in 4k, and low light falling off a cliff above 800 ISO all keep it on the shelf for me most of the time these days compared to the S1, which is exceedingly strong in all of those areas.

Wouldn't have picked you for an ankle kinda guy, but each to their own. 😉 Good to see someone is out and about. love the pics, and its interesting to see other places around the world. I dont have an osmo pocket. However i have setup the gopro 9 with a letus anamorphic on a crane m2 gimbal, to cover my anamorphic fetish. The letus vignettes on super view, so im stuck with the linear and narrow fov, which honestly doesn't bother me much as i never really liked the fisheye look anyway. I did have a couple of people come up and have a chat about the gopro9 at carnell raceway a couple of weeks ago, so i'd hardly call my setup unobtrusive. My brother and i start our own little holiday on Saturday morning about 5ish, 3 week 4wd road trip. One Simpson desert, 600 kilometers 1200 sand dunes. Uluru and usual places of interest, probably some out of the way places as well.

  11. I'm 2/3rds through a big project now and glad I chose not to upgrade - my current system is handling it amiably. I built this i7-6700K machine back in 2016, never really intending it to do heavy lifting with 4K. It was designed to ride out the HD era as a stop-gap build. Nonetheless it's happily cutting through an 8x22min series with all 8 eps in a single project (over 300 4K sequences in the project). 18TB of source media from a mix of Red, BMPCC6K, GH5, GoPro, 5DmkIV, and lots of AE dynamically linked graphics. CPU & GPU barely puffing, but definitely wishing I had more ram. the 32GB is maxed out when I have 2 projects open at once - which I do regularly to consolidate versions from multiple editors. I think I'll manage fine at least until next year; I've actually been impressed by this old rig so there's no way I'm going to upgrade while prices are at the current inflated levels.

    The end of EOSHD

New gear is great but if you have nothing to shoot what is the point? I think that sums up the sentiment we've all been through this past year and a half. It's been brutal for a lot of us independent pros. I sold a lot of cine gear and lost a lot of money in the process. Seriously considered leaving the industry as well. Fortunately for me, business has picked up again and that's really all it takes to get excited about shooting. Because for me its really all about shooting, gear is just means to an end. Too much gear can also be a buzzkill. I saw a great video the other day shot with just a G7 and a macro lens. I'm a strong believer in limitations spark creativity. Not just in filmmaking but all creative areas. Its a hard motto to live by these days within a gear-driven industry. Speaking of apple and tech GAS, I had to resist the urge for the third year in a row to get the "pro" model. My phone died so I did cop the iPhone 13 but went with the mini. Love the form factor and my phone will remain just that a phone. Photos & videos shot with it will remain on social media. No ProRes on smartphone for me, oh well. Also thinking about getting the iPad mini, it feels like a Moleskin notebook. I hate big tablets, might as well just use a notebook at that point (also just got the M1 MBA). Just waiting to see how the A15 compares to M1 as I would like to do some basic editing on it and need HEVC support. Anyways I'd be sad to see this place disappear. I haven't been around since the start but it's been an incredible resource and community, even with all the riffraff and drama. I think we all owe Andrew a big thanks no matter the outcome. I don't always agree with his views but at least he has a freaking opinion unlike 99% of the internet shills. As a primarily Canon shooter I also thank him for being so outspoken on the overheat-gate issue that got us solutions and even got Canon to somewhat address the situation. Who will have the clout & balls to do so if this independent voice disappears? Keep going Andrew, your doing the community/industry a great service by being vocal on matters that matter!

  13. The world is sliding again into the standard dark places it always seems to eventually go --and the anxiety of our lives reflect this. The scales of the internet have violently tipped to manipulation and exploitation and the earnest golly-gee-wiz of it all is long gone. Hard things to rally against it, but it's just the reality of it all. Your site reflects what the net used to be. Anyway, EOSHD is a refuge because fo that. Thanks for getting me into LUMIX. I wouldn't have even considered M43 without your reviews. Glad I did because it's been a perfect platform fit for me.

  14. Bump this up because today I found this out newer konova slider exists: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1550975-REG/konova_p1_s2_80_motorized_carbon_slider_p180cm.html I have used sliders over the years and have an earlier konova slider with a motor and all this stuff and I never really used it that much. I got a gimbal and eventually just kinda of used that for most video movement. My main gripe with my konova was I had an earlier controller that didn't have proper timelapse functionality and although motorized sliders are cool for video, I feel like they're better utilized as a timelapse tool. I went ahead and grabbed this one because the controller has that functionality now the new design looks good with that built in parallax thingy and the price was right. I'll post back when it arrives and I get to check it out, but I thought it was worth sharing.

  15. Sliders are not run and gun. Thats my issue with them. Gimbals are on the other hand. You can still mimic a slider with gimbal with some skill and moderate slowmo and maybe tilt axis post stabilization.

  16. Well now, just over month later, I cannot recommend the Ursa Mini Pro to anyone. On Sept. 5 my UMP died out of nowhere in the middle of a shoot. Completely black image off the sensor, no menus, no image from SDI, won't playback clips... DEAD. I talked to Blackmagic and other users. It turns out this is a fatal sensor issue that Blackmagic will not service at all. They won't even take the camera to assess it—all they needed was an email conversation to confirm this was the issue. I can't recommend a camera from a company that refuses to service their own product. They'll still service the G2, but for how long?? Is that worth the risk? Not for me. Not while I'm dealing with insurance. I've moved on to the Panasonic EVA1 to match my S1 in Vlog. The menu system feels like I'm in the stone ages compared to Blackmagic's fantastic menus and the screen is utter garbage, but the image is simply amazing and right up on par with the UMP.
