Apple is Coming For Y'all: Disruptive Video Production Technologies
kye and one other reacted to webrunner5 for a topic
Tens of thousands of people were completely content to watch Porn Movies when I was young shot on 8mm, super 8mm film cameras. They ignored the horrendous handheld jitters, terrible low light ability, and just crap film skills for what, Content, and Content is king. The camera, be it an iPhone or an Arri is the least of your problems.2 points -
The end of EOSHD

Exactly what I said (-still) when I saw our first test with the GH2/Lomo in the streets of Lyon with Alice, our lovely and sharp First AD: And the final trailer was representative of the film: Again, THANKS TO ANDREW and everyone in the EOSHD community who inspired us to take the leap with the GH2/Lomo... and supported us as we tried out Driftwood hacks... and finished the film!!2 points -

Hey Andrew, Just saw your video, and wanted to reach out and say I hear you mate. I get it. Completely. You helped give me the courage and insight years ago, way back in 2010, right?, to bust out and make a feature with a GH2 Lumix/Lomo. Total creative explosion that was, making Mandorla. You led the revolutionary charge, Commander. And one of the best times I’ve had shooting was the day we shot our anamorphic Lumix/Lomos in good ol’ Buxton! Hang in there, mate. You’ll suss this out. And everybody here will stick with you, whatever you decide! Keep us posted. Looking forward to a pint on the otherwise of this abyss!! Onward! Roberto2 points -
New gear is great but if you have nothing to shoot what is the point? I think that sums up the sentiment we've all been through this past year and a half. It's been brutal for a lot of us independent pros. I sold a lot of cine gear and lost a lot of money in the process. Seriously considered leaving the industry as well. Fortunately for me, business has picked up again and that's really all it takes to get excited about shooting. Because for me its really all about shooting, gear is just means to an end. Too much gear can also be a buzzkill. I saw a great video the other day shot with just a G7 and a macro lens. I'm a strong believer in limitations spark creativity. Not just in filmmaking but all creative areas. Its a hard motto to live by these days within a gear-driven industry. Speaking of apple and tech GAS, I had to resist the urge for the third year in a row to get the "pro" model. My phone died so I did cop the iPhone 13 but went with the mini. Love the form factor and my phone will remain just that a phone. Photos & videos shot with it will remain on social media. No ProRes on smartphone for me, oh well. Also thinking about getting the iPad mini, it feels like a Moleskin notebook. I hate big tablets, might as well just use a notebook at that point (also just got the M1 MBA). Just waiting to see how the A15 compares to M1 as I would like to do some basic editing on it and need HEVC support. Anyways I'd be sad to see this place disappear. I haven't been around since the start but it's been an incredible resource and community, even with all the riffraff and drama. I think we all owe Andrew a big thanks no matter the outcome. I don't always agree with his views but at least he has a freaking opinion unlike 99% of the internet shills. As a primarily Canon shooter I also thank him for being so outspoken on the overheat-gate issue that got us solutions and even got Canon to somewhat address the situation. Who will have the clout & balls to do so if this independent voice disappears? Keep going Andrew, your doing the community/industry a great service by being vocal on matters that matter!2 points

Panasonic BS1H - box version of the S1H
currensheldon reacted to TomTheDP for a topic
Google "Nikon z9 8k RAW" The lack of being able to dial Z-cams ND off is a bummer but at least there is an option. Otherwise you'll have to get a vari ND and deal with the color issues that those provide. The Zcam F6 is the competitor against the BS1H in my opinion. The BS1H is $3500 while the F6 is $4000. The S6 is only $2500 and is also S35. The S6 does 4k 100fps though and crushes all the VFR modes on the S1H and BS1H which are pretty crap IMO. The option for SDI out is great but if you are going solo with this camera and shooting prores RAW, pulling focus is a bitch off the slow latency HDMI. Prores internal would be a nice feature to have. The BS1H is cool but its more of a specialty rig cam. I am waiting on a full frame EVA1 with hopefully a less chinsey body and 10 stop NDs.1 point -
Pretty good deal I just got one for 4k USD on ebay.1 point

The camera slider is underrated

If someone have a VEEEEERY low budget for a motorized slider (and a small camera), I have this gizmo and it works well: https://www.amazon.com/Kingjoy-Motorized-Electric-Photography-Smartphone/dp/B073XNVFZQ/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF81 point -

While true, it's been a tough time for all of us. I deal with depression, I have my whole life, but the last couple years, especially with the pandemic, has been brutal. I think most of us, to some extent, are feeling beaten down and exhausted. My enthusiasm and creativity certainly has taken a hit. So don't feel like you're the only one. I have faith you'll get your mojo back.1 point -

There's no other location like this one today, no kudos are enough to express it, I feel it invariably underestimated... I don't even think anyone including Andrew can comprehend the whole extent of the impact of his work and legacy as one of the first original influencers of this segment of the camera scene : ) This is a truly indie home where there's always place for filmmakers to come first. Where else nowadays? Industry ties don't hang out really well with free spirits. Priceless affordable tools for creators don't rule when business aspects prevail. Andrew has created something completely unique to get rid us of all the customary useless paid crap. Frankly, I don't see us living without the standards EOSHD has become us used to. It would be a sad world in/for this craft without it. Pretty sincerely, EAG :- )1 point -
Hi - 3 years later - I'm wondering if you are still making these lenses?1 point

I just found my original BMPCC in a box after moving and I realized how much fun it was shooting with this camera, despite all its shortcomings. It are the limitations and the singular focus, stripping it to the core, that makes it such a pleasure to shoot with. I never used the newer cameras but they don’t seem “pocket” at all, and a bit of overkill to carry along.1 point

Tascam is developing a hotshoe XLR adapter to Canon, Fujifilm and Nikon
newfoundmass reacted to herein2020 for a topic
I am definitely not working on any Hollywood level projects...but I need XLR all the time, its not just cable runs where it is important, it is also the wireless mics that I use, the wired taps into the mixing boards, concerts, wedding DJs, all use XLR; and yes, sometimes I do need a 50' wired run from a mixing board to my XLR input. I caveat all of this with the fact that I do not know anything about USB audio, maybe it really is that great and camera makers should include it in their cameras, but I do know that I've had to connect to almost everything imaginable and I have spent a small fortune on prosumer grade audio gear and it is all based on the XLR interface.1 point
