  1. On my old Gx7, it's 1080 somehow outperformed other cam's downrez'ed 4k. Not sure what was going on with that LUMIX generation's sensors and internal processing, but it offered pretty sweet IQ to my eye. Sadly, I lost that camera. [sad face]

  2. Good point! Personally, I'm hoping BMD release a way to convert the DNG from the FP into Braw in post. They already know all the info to do it, and recording Braw with a VA is awesome. But yes, it means adding a screen that's bigger than the camera. That said, I don't think there's anything in it for BMD to actually do that, which is a shame.

  3. For all of the cameras that have been produced before this new revolution that would benefit from it. Having the external ProRes RAW option on my Sigma FP, for example, is great but I don't want to have a Ninja V attached to it as it defeats the camera's biggest strength. Being able to add non RAW versions of ProRes to things like my Leica SL which does 10 bit external would also be a boon, again without having to add the big screen.

    P4K vs S1/S1H

There's more to a camera than the user interface. The more posts I read from you the more I wonder if you're just trolling and missing the point on purpose....

  6. Thanks for the advice re autofocus testing And yes I have one of the top function buttons assigned to peaking - I had just never noticed the P going on and off., till now! On a tangent, I am finding the CineD2 profile really nice for autumnal colours. My new favourite. I have also gone back to doing everything in HD as I just don't have the storage and power for editing 4K. Plus HD on the S5 looks great anyway. Interesting watching Andrew's video on the main forum page about the obsession with tech and I would add obsession with pixel count to that.

    P4K vs S1/S1H

The Pocket series from BM is fantastic. The issues with them are the non tilting screens and the battery life. This is solved on the 6k PRO. I'd take a 6K pro over the S1 however I'd take the S1 over the OG 6K or 4k. The S1 shifts magenta, simply make a bunch of WB presets with a +2 green tint and boom fixed. The Arri has a major green shift, while the LF shifts magenta. It's an easy fix if you do it in camera rather than attempting it in post. I have my Arri WB presets to all +2 magenta and the S1 +2 green. If using Davinci ACES + the Varicam35 option is a great way to easily color/exposure correct S1 footage. It's not 100% accurate as the Vacicam color science is different but its pretty close.

    P4K vs S1/S1H

Have you tried the GHa luts for the S1? I can tell you that they work great and elevate the colour completely. The S1 files have enough data and latitude that you can match to the Alexa pretty well. Here's another lut pack that does the same thing -

  9. A few clips with the G85, trying to answer the question, "can I walk with it?". So, several longer walking shots: I was expecting a resounding "No", but the answer is "sort of". If I had a top handle and had used a wider lens or my focal reducer (or a Power OIS lens), I might have gotten away with it. Not wild about the color straight out of camera, but we can't have everything. This is a pretty fun camera to use. I owned an Olympus EM10iii for a while and I much prefer this. From time to time, I film protests. I think this camera would be a good fit for that.

  10. I'll bite. I can shoot 12bit 8K DCI RAW internally with my R5. Why do I need this? And, no, I do not experience overheating problems (though I have to be mindful). And, right now one cannot record 8K on the Ninja V+ with the R5. There still needs to be a firmware update. So, no one can report the advantages, if any.
