Great stuff! Lots of attention to detail here, and great casting on the "Walter" actor!! Thanks for posting, I really enjoyed it š3 points

I watched it yesterday and my comment didnt save. So my even greater pleasure now to express my joy and appreciation for your short film. I loved everything about it, the energy the rhythm, the visuality and shot design. Classic genre style in classy quality. I dont mind the rather "realistic" as opposed to stylised grades. I know the material could have been graded into many thinkable directions. Great stuff, thanks and keep em coming! cheers:) Btw, had some troubles with saving my comment again. Has been like that for me a few times lately.2 points

Just another early Christmas video

Thank you very much for the feedback dear friends. It is very stressful to make these types of videos when out of 15 people, only 2 really know what they are doing, and the rest are waiting and chatting. So I must dedicate to adjusting the lights, the camera, the set, explaining to an administrative staff how to turn on and start recording the mixpre. Unpack the sweets, distribute the sugar, help to dress the companions ... Two different locations in 6 hours in total. The total production budget was 0. In the end you can't be at all ... Luckily more and more people want to participate selflessly in our projects, so I think we can only improve for the next time. I leave some photos of the filming. P.S. At the end of the day, the administrative person told me that he did not know why the battery level went up to the red zone and to the green zone so fast. It was the audio level (vu meter) and he thought throughout the recording that it was the state of the battery. At that moment I wanted to die š¤£2 points -
Hahaha. I love it. I didn't even use the subtitle track, and I still got it, all thanks to the good visuals and references. IMHO, if you just work on the pacing (building it up slowly, to a crescendo), the grade (little more faded or washed out) and the soundtrack (more build up, with a heartbeat or its equivalent, as reference), this could easily be of a masterpiece. Great homage.2 points

As usual in recent years I have been making a Christmas video for the police force where I work. This year with more sense of humor, parodying Breaking Bad. No professional, all who appear are police officers. GH5S + Sirui Anamorphic 35mm. Hope you like it.1 point

Could be due to your tripod plate. I never had any problems with mounting plates. Still it is a lack in design to only provide one crew hole on hybrid video/photo cams. I really donĀ“t like the mounting experience with my much heavier Lumix S1. Anyway, a cage would provide great mounting strength, but takes away from the graceful appearance and light footrpint of the camera. Maybe check for different plates I would imagine.:)1 point

A manifesto for the humble zoom lens
kye reacted to Mark Romero 2 for a topic
Yeah, regarding the sigma lens given away with the s5, I guess for people who want to shoot 4K 60 / 50fps, it might make sense. I was shooting video on my 24-105 f/4 at 60p two days ago and realized just how much tighter 36mm is than 24mm when filming indoors.1 point -
Just some public support to a member of this community...

A good one of us lost his best friend (his father) and I'd appreciate we might drop a bell... how strangers, or not so much, may we all embrace his pain in solidarity with a good and talented artist. Altogether can be easier to overcome it. Insignificant but life is made of a very few contributions. I met him @Danilo Del Tufo from dvxuser a decade and half ago and we became good friends and collaborators also in real life for a decade now already -- I am producing right now a feature film from a story written by him... the time really flies! Un abbraccio amico Danilo, all thoughts and prayers with you, - EAG1 point -
Just bought a new camera for 2022 - the small but mighty GX85

@projectwoofer i really enjoyed the images and the color palette. Especially liked the shots at 1.04 and the ones right after, great muted tones and lensing. What aperture did you film these with? The Mitakon seems like a winner. I didnt mind some blown highlights, as I really digged the overall palette and mute you achieved. Keep em coming.1 point -
Best Control Surface?
Trek of Joy reacted to kye for a topic
Since my last post in this thread, I now own the Speed Editor for Resolve and am loving it. My earlier statement proved to be correct - the critical feature is the scroll wheel. However, I think there are three main reasons to consider a control surface, depending on what you're doing and what NLE you have. Navigating using the scroll wheel The scroll wheel is super intuitive to use when editing, and for this purpose I think the ergonomics are important. The Speed Editor (BMSE) wheel is heavy and has momentum, so I find that I use it a lot by flicking it and having it spin on its own accord. This means that you can have almost frame-level accuracy and yet be able to quickly navigate the timeline at the same time. A wheel that was just a clicky-control would be far less useful in this sense I think. Editing using the scroll wheel Probably the killer feature of the SE is the ability to hold down a button (eg, to control the out point of a clip) and move the wheel to adjust it. The SE allows you to control in points, out points, allows you to slip clips, to roll edit points, etc, all by holing down a button and scrolling using the wheel. It also has other things like being able to control the size of the viewing window, once again, by holding it down and using the wheel to adjust it. This method of working is super intuitive and a really slick feature. Editing using the buttons The SE has buttons that access functions that you can't map to keyboard keys. This is a bit of a cheat from BM, but its there, so isn't to be discounted. I would evaluate your options above based on those criteria, as they're the ones that really provide the value of a control surface, in my experience.1 point -
A manifesto for the humble zoom lens
Mark Romero 2 reacted to kye for a topic
Kind of, as it'll meet some but not all of the criteria I laid out in the first few posts, but it's pretty darned expensive and so doesn't really require any "help" in being recognised for its strengths and advantages. Of course, lenses are lenses and everything from the $10 lenses on eBay to the $100,000 lenses you can only rent but not buy still obey the laws of physics, operate under the same principles, and suffer from the same aberrations (to a greater or lesser extent). LOL.. there's a trap for new players! Another win for kit lenses - they always have coverage of the camera they're supplied with!!1 point -
C300 MKII 2K 60p vs 1DX MKII 4k 60p

Wise words Don : ) But maybe that's us to worry about it because we are old ducks : D ...understanding the price to pay for tough stuff handling, crew cost and so on? :- ) Voice of experience calls anyway, count on it ; ) A camera is much more than specs... ;- ) - EAG1 point -

i'm really quite jealous of all this anamorphic goodness now that i have an ipone 13 turn up. im looking at getting the sandmark or moment anamorphic. Which ever one gives me the golden flare. something a little different perhaps, but blue is a little over done i feel. Gold may give me an edge especially since i do like a good sunset. Sunrises tend to be elusive beasts, not sure why š1 point -
Thanks mate. Will watch it tomorrow. I liked your video from last year, so I'm sure this one will also be great. I read Gh5s had an update for external braw with a 12g bmva. Anyway, looking forward to be watching your video tomorrow.1 point

Just bought a new camera for 2022 - the small but mighty GX85
PannySVHS reacted to projectwoofer for a topic
So I found lots of older footage shot with the GX85 that I hadnāt used in any other project and I started experimenting a bit with color grading. My main activity is music so I create videos for my music. Normally I have a specific concept for the videos but a lot of times I just want to go out and shoot. So I have a lot of footage that I hadnāt used till now, when the idea came to my mind: Iāll create a series of, letās say ācinematic ambientā videos, something like an online creative diary of simple moments, walks on the mountain and so on. This is an ongoing project and Iām very excited about it. Iāll use footage, actual field recordings and original minimalistic ambient music atmospheres. Letās see how it goes! First attempt here, because of the awful YouTube compression better watch it in 4K š:1 point
