  1. Another one hot off the presses... Less flickering in this one, but still some. Watching this video shows how with LED proliferation almost all lights flicker to some degree. It's probably not a huge concern as not many productions need to shoot slow-motion, in public, at night. Those that do are likely high-budget action features that can afford to use VFX to correct these things in post.

  2. If you already own a workhorse 5D IV and need a second one for like doing a wedding (backup or second shooter), it makes sense to rent the same as you have.

  3. I just like the color. The halation and especially the grain aren't really my thing.

  4. Thank you @webrunner5 that is very helpful. After posting the above I discovered that the a6400 has a toggle to lock the AWB. So it looks like I can go to, say, the high school gym, allow the camera to find the correct white balance automatically, and then hit the toggle to lock it; that way it will stay the same as I film the competition and I won't have to worry about it. Seems like a really cool feature. In the Venice style there is a white balance adjustment for both A-B and G-M. I don't know how important those are but I guess I can test it out.

  6. Tried again with another Sony battery, and set it up on a tripod this time. Got full 128gb 1:15 4K 60fps XAVC-S 200mbs. Dual slots 20C with lens corrections off except for distortion. AF / IBIS on. Overheat warning just coming on as card had 1 minute left.

    Old treasures...

I had a Biotar years ago. A really old one with 17 blades (I think it was) and it was sharp but very low contrast. Of my two (from memory for the Biotar) I would say the Biotar was the one with the dreamy look and the Helios is almost like any similar lens of its era. Just got a hood for it yesterday too, not that i had any real issues with stray light. My Helios is one of the newest. The coating was probably the biggest difference although the Biotar was a lot smaller

  8. Shot this video in Prores Raw 12-bit the other day with my Lumix S5: -Filmed on Panasonic Lumix S5 in 5.9k 12-bit ProRes Raw (recorded externally on Atomos Ninja V) -Camera mounted to DJI RSC2 Gimbal -Tokina AT-X 116 Pro DX-II 11-16mm F-2.8 (wide-angle lens) attached to camera via Vizelex Fusion ND Throttle Smart Adapter (EF - L mount) -Shot with V-log picture profile (original footage resolution was 5.9k 24p, and 4.1k 60p footage slowed down to 24fps) -ProRes Raw Files converted to ProRes 4:4:4 and some minor color grading and final editing was done in Davinci Resolve 17 (Final export was 4.1k 24ps) -Exported and uploaded to Ytube using 10-bit H.265 codec

  9. I'm contemplating investing in a vintage lens set, maybe FDs, maybe Rokkors, maybe something else, but figured I'd take stock of what I have and see what I can see. First I'll post the images in case they're of interest to anyone, then digest them in future posts. Test was GH5 in 400Mbps 4K ALL-I mode, Cine-D, Daylight WB, put onto a 1080p timeline. I tested all lenses wide open (typically around F2) and at F5.6 (all lenses were closed down some by then). I also did a 2X punch-in for each lens, because I like to use the 2X digital zoom function to grab quick shots, which also functions as a proxy for shooting 4K (although that doesn't matter so much unless you're doing VFX). Test setup had some depth, some glare, some sharp detail in the background, but nothing too outrageous.. Lenses..

    My first sony mirrorless video

Hi I am new here, just thought I would share my first youtube video. I used to shoot video with Canon DSLRs and stopped for sometime, mostly focused on photography, but recently I moved toward sony mirrorless camera and started to test out the video capabilities. This is mostly an experiment I did with a Sony a6600 and anamorphic lenses (Sirui 35mm and 50mm) as well as a Sony 10-18mm.

  12. Shot this film in Botswana and I have to say that the BM cinema camera works perfectly for wildlife filming. You will need an external monitor because the screen on the back acts more as a mirror than as a display but other than that it has been great. It eats a lot of hard drive space so a few extra ssd's are needed. Let me know what you guys think.
