  1. Thanks! How tricky is it to access all the old stuff from 2010-2018 I am wondering? I am thinking in the new site design, an archive of the Berlin "best of" days can be included so you can browse everything. I lot of people only just finding EOSHD will not even know it exists. The Digital Bolex footage, early GH2, 5D Mark III raw, the first Metabones speed booster prototype and seeing Berlin as it was before the recent upheavals would be nice to revisit but currently it takes a lot of digging!

  2. Yeah, saw some awesome stuff shot in cine4 with it and internal HD 8bit 420. So maybe one of us starts a thread with the best buys, and additional best buys which we ever hardly used plus the stories to not using them! That´s right!:) But, at least FS700 got used for two paid gigs, one of them with internal HD SLog2. One of the two gigs was last year even.:) In 2021 I had to do two shorts with other cameras due to lack of rigging, time or due to request of the producer. At least my S1 got some use as a B-Cam and produced beautiful images. Last year it was BCam and even ACam to a C300II. But still, darn you are right.:) My F3 waiting for an EVF and for its first legit footage. BMMCC getting ready for some digital Super16 anamorphic, but still waiting after a first test. Darn, but in a good way too, so much exiting tech!:) I would hope CS was pretty good from my experience with my FS700. I heard that it either performs better under 5600K or 3200K, making a huge difference. The vari ND for sure would be a great thing to for some variation in DOF. Should browse vimeo a bit for some nice filmic experiments with it.:) ANYWAY, the Varicam LT sold for 5500EUR! It was completely rigged, with two P2-Cards, viewfinder, shoulder rig, handles and V-mount. Before, it was even offered by the seller for 4500, but seems like too many potential buyers offered more, so they put it back in for 5500. I was hoping the other way around.:)

  4. The new RF lenses deserved a better housing, they've got the finish of an office printer.

  5. I know, the title sounds a bit corny. But I just enjoyed a classy classic review. It also sounds like i might be ass kissing but far away from that. I just love the wealth and quality of reviews and threads on this site. I highly recommend browsing EOSHD. How come I open a topic with that "insight" and suggestion? Well, as others suggested yesterday, to test the search function with less then four characters, I just developed an appetite to enjoy some great Lumix G6 footage from Andrew again. I love the vibe of Andrews Berlin, I love the vibe of my now broken G6. If it just had 100mbit and no noise reduction up to 1600 Iso, it would be all the camera I would really need! In Andrews reviews we often get to see the city of Berlin as it has been, an open space, which deserves to be called that actually! A space with warmth, variety and poetry, full of warm hearted people, with unpretentious beauty. These days my attributes to describe Berlin would be: occupied by the forces of money and algorithm industry, money with dirt glueing onto it, algorithms throwing dirt at us. So cherishing low fi and old school and plasticy equipment with the promise and challenge of beautiful image quality is like cherishing the promise of the things and place we film with it. Thats why I love these classics, these classy reviews and Andrews Berlin. It is a promise which gives me hope and joy. cheers

  6. Hi all, Many thanks for all the extra input, I can't really go through and reply individually to all the points but it was good to get more input and insight. I have the ZV E10 now and am in testing to try and make myself a post-pipeline and LUT setup to make colour matching as painless as possible, so there isn't so much repeat work. TBH the autofocus is pretty phenomenal with native Sony lenses. It really has come so far now, I don't think I could match it unless I were only doing the job of focussing and practiced a lot. The robots will have us beat in not too long for most circumstances. It's very impressive on a gimbal too, I ordered the new Zhiyun Crane M3 and all put together it is very light and easy to use. The ZV E10 rolling shutter is utterly horrific in 4K mode though, but for the most part it should be fine. I mean it's really bad, as in if a subject sways to the side quickly their head bends! I guess that is the downside of Sony trying to squeeze as many models as possible from this old sensor. I did own the original RX10 back int eh day, and still have the RX100 MK V, though I will probably sell it now. I think they're useful cameras, but the 1-inch sensor definitely has a certain crunchy look to it. It's quite cool and 16mm like, but I reckon the APSC will cut better TBH.

  7. Your S1 has an AF lens sticking to it, which you decorated with a mask?:) Why, Mark, why?

  8. true. Still you have to admire someone, who's actually out there giving it a go, and consistently i might add. We should Probably ask @Andrew Reid about hosting another competition. You know, New year, new sever, new competition. In the interests of incentivizing a few people and maybe getting a few of us off our asses, i'm prepared to offer up a bottle of australia's finest ( well i presume it's Australia's finest, as i don't drink the stuff. Which is why its currently sitting there unopened. ). Its not a new camera i know, However if you were to win i'm sure it would make you feel all nice and warm and maybe fuzzy inside depending on how quick you drink it 😉 May as well base the project off this thread, i propose we do a series of locked of shots on a city at night, which can include a sunset or sunrise. How hard can it be ? 🤔 The last competition had an element of cost involved to keep things fairly even. As noted in another thread, a bunch of us have cameras that don't get much use. This time around lets showcase our cameras and portray your city in cinematography awesomeness. Oh and make sure you have some fun as thats important too.

  9. Just did a few searches and I think it's excluding anything shorter than 4 characters, a common configuration. Searching for "BMMCC" gives hits, "BMMC" gives hits, but "BMM" gives nothing. I can't say if this is a change or if it's always been like this though... maybe @Grimor or others can recall searching for things 3 letters long? Although FX6, C70, A73, XT4.. you'd imagine someone would have noticed if those didn't work.

  10. Thanks for the update. Glad to hear it is working out for you. Had a pretty rough day with my S1 today so I am definitely envious of Sony autofocusing (pretty hard to focus the S1 when one's glasses keep fogging up due to wearing a mask).

  11. Now I know Canon will continue developing DSLR, so no worries. They were talking about flagship DSLR only, which I don't care about.

  12. Does the new server have some effect to the search function? Because the search of "Fx6" found 0 results now. I know it's a camera you don't like very much Andrew, but hope not so much to ban it fron the new server. 😂

  13. It can't be viable for Canon to have two mounts to cater to. Clearly the future is RF. And hence at some point they have to kill off EF. Personally I have an R6 but no L series RF glass. I find them too expensive and plasticky. I like vintage glass on modern sensors anyways and some EF designs are really starting to feel "vintage"! The RF lens range is also still pretty incomplete. Still not a 35mm L series lens which is insane imo (the 35mm F1.4 L EF II still being my all-time favorite). As for DSLR yeah they will be missed. I still have my 5D classic. Do love optical viewfinder and all-over ergonomics and reliability. My R6 feels like a toy in comparison and single point AF on the joystick feels cumbersome. It's like something got lost in translation with the jump to mirrorless. If I were a sport/action shooter no doubt I'd cling on to any 1DX vs mirrorless.

  14. a7IV overheating test pt. 2 Did another run test without airplane mode since someone asked the question on FB - had the LCD out and today I plugged a mic in just to try and create more heat. I ran the battery dead and shot 1hr and 50min of 10-bit 422 XAVC S 4k60p. The battery crapped out about 30 seconds after I took the pic. No temp warning and the camera was warm, but wasn't that hot, same for the battery. Below is what I've managed without an overheating shutdown - AF-c and the camera pointed at the TV to get faces/eyes, Steadyshot on, auto ISO that was changing with the different light on the TV, airplane mode, LCD out, temp set to high, prograde 128gb v90's: -- Over 7 hours of XAVC S 4k60p 10-bit 422 only stopping to swap batteries and delete the file after filling my 128gb card at 1hr 20min -- Multiple dual recording of XAVC SI at 60p and 24p until cards were full or the battery died -- Simultaneous dual recording of 10-bit 422 4k60p XAVC S until both cards were full -- 27min of dual recording with the LCD against the body and it shut down, then another 14 min after immediately restarting - these two runs were after doing all of the above all day yesterday, that's about 9 hours of non-stop recording with no issues, then the shut down Today's test was the same as above, just airplane off. I can't get mine to overheat unless the LCD is against the body, but I don't shoot that way and knowing it won't overheat with it out - I will not hesitate using this in a professional environment alongside my a7sIII. The a7IV is a winner for me. Chris

  15. Looks like somehow the dog got accidentally turned into a mask instead of normal layer. Probably some setting gone funny somewhere.

  17. Well it works for me. I was afraid Canon sent you a R1 loaded with plastic explosives and Kaboom! 💣

  18. Another one hot off the presses... Less flickering in this one, but still some. Watching this video shows how with LED proliferation almost all lights flicker to some degree. It's probably not a huge concern as not many productions need to shoot slow-motion, in public, at night. Those that do are likely high-budget action features that can afford to use VFX to correct these things in post.

  19. Happy to have you again here with a reborn motivation. Me like other people passed thru some demotivation much and much times, long life to passion! I can recognize so much feelings on your writings and thoughts, and you ave really the capability to expose that! Happy again! See you forward! :)

  21. Indeed. One advantage that budget Chinese lens manufacturers have is that they're not tooled up to do the radically sophisticated optical formulas and coatings of the latest optically perfect Zeiss / Canon L etc, which means that automatically they're making lenses with more vintage optical formulas and coatings. There market seems to be separating into two aesthetics: videographers are merging with stills photographers and want the highest resolution and sharpest lenses to sell hyper-realistic images directly to an amateur crowd (direct to consumer) and the cinematographers who are being forced by studios and VFX processing houses to shoot as high a resolution as possible and want softer feeling lenses with character to create emotion and to serve the narrative. For these softer rendering lenses they're driving the price of vintage lenses through the roof - the very vintage lenses that the budget Chinese manufacturers are using in their new lenses. They may as well be modern third-party re-issues of classic lenses. This gives us, as budget consumers, the biggest advantage - we get lenses with the right level of sharpness from vintage lenses but with all the benefits of modern mass manufacture and globalised price competition.

  22. Cheers Andrew! And Merry Christmas to you too! Glad to see you positive and back in the swing of things. I bought your anamorphic guide for the GH3 or 4? a few years ago and have appreciated all your work making m43 cameras sing. I have been producing documentaries for the last 10 years and have often come to your channel looking for tech help and workflow ideas. I also bought my Panasonic Leica 42.5 lens because of your thoughtful reviews. I've used it for at least 3 PBS programs over the years and it has never let me down. Keep focusing on the positive. You've done a lot of good for the community. I look forward to more articles from you in the future. Many thanks from Idaho! Rusty Earl
