I consider myself to becoming one. I have a lot of respect for the footage and its DP above. As a gaffer I have been an integral part contributing my lights to different DPs cinematography over the last couple of years. We all work hard for the art and dont get paid well often in the microcosm outside the general tv industry. But recognizing the average quality some well paid people produce, I won' t hesitate anymore to call myself becoming a cinematographer. By heart, effort and work ethic. 😊 And regarding framing, lensing and feeling and seeing I would consider you the same:) @mercer I hope to get to post more in the future and to enjoy the effects of exchange and inspiration. Well all could do more of that and remember what it takes to produce material like the og post shares.3 points

And at its core... cinematography is about making pretty images. Technically, I don't think anybody on this forum would be considered a cinematographer or DP. I think she did a nice job with a camera that isn't known for its lowlight capabilities.2 points

Some really lovely cinematography
Tim Sewell and one other reacted to BenEricson for a topic
I don’t think anyone ever said that... I would have to say this is cinematography, though. She’s using a particular vintage lens, camera, filtration, image processing, and shooting at particular time of day and weather conditions all to get that look. Everyone acting like this is super easy. You’re all literally sleeping and she’s out shooting. 🤷🏼♂️ “Oh I could do this for sure. It’s not that good. Nice video.” Weird.2 points -
Testing out my Olympus EM1 Mark II
PannySVHS reacted to dreamplayhouse for a topic
I got an amazing deal on the EM1 m2. Everything works except the mechanical shutter. Took the Oly with a Super Takumar 28mm f3.5 and viltrox focal reducer to my daughter's horse riding class. Shot in OM-400 and slight grading in Resolve with a film lut.1 point -

CANON 1DX RAW / 1DC firmware

It's a dead system now! Too late for that famous firmware file to make an appearance. I reckon 1D C was cancelled almost as soon as it launched.1 point -
Quick release solution for taking lenses
Sebastien Farges reacted to Trogdor for a topic
For all of the clamps that get anamorphic adapters onto taking lenses, I've been struggling to build a kit where I can quickly switch out the taking lenses without having to realign the adapter. But I think I've found a good solution: reverse macro adapters. Reverse macro adapters (if you don't already know) are meant to put a lens mount on the front of the lens, so you can flip it around and mount the front element to the camera. There are also 'safety rings' that then lock into the lenses original EF mount to protect the rear element, and also gives you a threaded ring for whatever you want to put in front of the lens. So I found a cheap EF mount reverse macro system on Amazon, and with some step up and step down rings, mounted those puppies to my Rapido FMJ and RMJs, and boom: swapping my taking lens is not only quick, but also locks in with the anamorphic adapter already aligned : D1 point -
CANON 1DX RAW / 1DC firmware
PannySVHS reacted to billdoubleu for a topic
Apologies for resurrecting such an old thread. But I found it amazing that, here we are, 8 years after this thread was started and you still cannot find firmware, whether official or dumped, for the 1DC on the internet. A 1DX can be had fairly cheap these days and would be so fun to have with 4k capabilities. No wonder canon will always own this camera market. They play the game better than anyone.1 point -
Upgrading from Canon 650D(Rebel T4i) to ...?
tupp reacted to webrunner5 for a topic
Yeah put a Speedbooster on the Canon R and you are back to full frame. Trouble is even the R is still fairly expensive yet. Canon can't seem to make a new camera worth a crap anymore, so that inflates the used market.1 point -
bmp4k adventures

If the crocodiles make it this far inland, i'll be doing some home leather tanning 😎 Only have one pair of work boots. Another pair of something fashionable might just do wonders for my charisma 😉 i did a tree change 14 years ago then worked kinda hard paying it off. To be honest i don't miss the cities at all. Although the nearest camera store is 2 hours away. Got good neighbors, lots of picturesque countryside to film what more can a bloke want ? Changing the conversation a little, here's something i don't see enough off. With a bit of effort, i hope to remedy that this year. Experimenting with low light on the p4k. there was a bit of a breeze and some thistle swaying around. It was actually quite dark, overcast skies and right on dusk. The iphone 13 and some photoshop auto levels has done an amazing job of making it look like noon. How about that, lol. I have ordered a 77mm 3 stop nd filter for the tokina 28-70.1 point -
Panasonic GH6
webrunner5 reacted to billdoubleu for a topic
I have no specific knowledge other than it makes sense. They're pulling from the same playbook as Olympus. The only new products they're sending out are a repackaging of their old technology. How long can one new camera (GH6) carry you as a business? I love VariCam but Arri is too sexy for productions to resist. Blackmagic is too attractive to smaller productions due to the super low cost, great image, and streamlined ecosystem. If Panasonic made the bold move with the EVA1 to strap an MFT mount to the front, they no doubt would've had more success with it. No guts no glory. Camera technology is seemingly a very difficult space to innovate in currently. The only companies making headway seem to be cell phone manufacturers who are willing and able to throw a mass of resources at the problem. Not to mention those companies also peddle in data mining, so, it only behoves them to keep that technology updated and exciting and in the best position to learn who you are as a consumer.1 point -
I joined EOSHD in 2015. I´m sure I remember that right. To find this video now, which back then stunned with its kinetic energy and beauty, its choice and combination of images, its rhythm and synergy with sound and music. So I guess this bump is like the goose bumps, which it gave to me back then- it is very, very obvious.:)1 point

I have seen dune at the movies this afternoon and i have to say i was impressed. i read the books when ahem.. i was younger. So it was nice to see it brought to life. Mind you it has been a while since i read them, so watching the movie was almost like, a new experience. I have seen the earlier dune movie and i will only add this is a much better rendition than the previous effort. Although there were no plot surprises, for me it was still very enjoyable. I can't always immerse myself in a movie and sometimes i find myself analyzing some movies far too much as i watch them. However i thoroughly enjoyed dune. The soundtrack matched the movie very well i thought, there were a couple of scenes where the music kind of (morphed for want of a better word) into the scene, i noticed two occasions and thought hey, thats very nicely done. I am certainly no pixel peeper or cinematographer for the matter, but personally i reckon its extremely well crafted visually and aurally , its up there with blade runner and blade runner 2049 , its vast, its epic, its cinema and thoroughly enjoyable. But maybe i'm easily entertained. Do yourselves a favour. See it on the big screen with pop corn and a frozen coke and be entertained and taken too a place far away for a couple of hours or what felt like a couple of hours.1 point

Well it is quite disappointing, only using 60% of the actual sensor size so it is actually 1/1.31" equivalent, and more pricy than A7C doesnt help.0 points
