  3. I'm very glad you have decided to continue your blog Andrew! Your URL is one of only 11 that fit on my bookmark dashboard and you've been there I think since the GH2 days as I recall. I remember your articles on "The Great Zacuto Camera Shootout" where the lowly GH2 was chosen as having the best cinematic quality above all the more pricey cinema cameras. That's what got me going on Panasonic GH series cameras. I sure hope the GH6 really is released soon and will look for your comments when/if it does! Thanks for keeping on keeping on! John

It might sound counter intuitive but, even though you've got F mount lenses, I'd look at getting the EF version instead and using an F to EF adapter on it. The reason being is that you get no electronic control of Nikon lenses with the Nikon version anyway so you aren't losing anything there but what you will gain is more flexibility by being able to put EF lenses on it as well, where you will get electronic control from the P4K. So, if you do get any EF or EF-S lenses, you will be able to use aperture control and one shot AF but also take advantage of the IS on the lens if it has it, which can be a boon with the P4K. With the EF mount being shallower than the F mount, there is no lens you can adapt to F that you can't also adapt to EF so you don't lose anything there either. On the contrary, you actually gain several mount options, including C/Y and M42, that can be adapted to EF with simple adapters whereas you would need adapters with optical elements to use them with Nikon F and maintain infinity focus.

  5. I don't watch too many YouTube reviews but I have to admit that your near-awkward Web 1.0 video style is kinda endearing. If I have to see another blue light special review on the bridge of the S.S. Cliche-aprise I may just gag. And since nobody on YT makes videos about the 5D Mark III and ML Raw, I have very little reason to watch. With that said, why are Canon going all in with the R Mount? The R3 seems kinda nifty I guess, but I'd much rather have RawLite on an EF mount 5D Mark V with IBIS and internal NDs. Like you said, the DSLR revolution is... over. Maybe we should start producing art on cameras that were released pre-2015. Fuck 'em!

  6. So i just got an EVF-11 for the sigma fp and it's a really nice small lightweight EVF. It uses the HDMI out, USB C and there are two prongs that i believe connect to the flash output on the side of the sigma fp I want to see if i can use this for my Komodo, which is crying out for a small EVF (The Zacuto stuff is too large, i have an Eye already and would happily get rid of it) So first experiment was to get some cables to plug the Komodo into the HDMI (via an SDI convertor) and then plug the USB C from the camera to the EVF - thinking that maybe that would be enough to start with. But no go. Then i saw the two prongs of the flash and wondering whether they were power and the USB C connection was control. So anyone got any details on the pins for the flash on the side, or has anyone experimented? I'm just trying a proof of concept to see if it's possible, the EVF might be relying on control from the camera over that USB C in which case all bets are off... cheers Paul

Oh I agree, the C70 will always be the better option if you are only shooting video, but if the R5c keeps all of its photography features as well it will have no equal for run and gun hybrid shooters like me since the C70 has zero photography capabilities. The R5c sounds like it could be the general purpose workhorse photography camera while still providing enough usable video features for event videos, music videos, weddings, promo videos, etc. If Canon strips out the photography features then they will finally once and for all be dead to me.

And this is why the GH6 will most likely fail, and the S2H and so on. AF is becoming competent enough where its actually reliable and useful for common situations. Why spend that kind of money and not get AF? Panasonic wake up. C70 has superior DR, XLR, internal NDs, CLOG2 and pro level exposure tools. And this is why I'm confused with why it's in the Canon Cinema line. A "pro" compact VIDEO cinema camera with a mirrorless photo camera's sensor. I'm excited to see the body and form factor though.

Yup, my BMMCC came with the Metabones Nikon speedbooster, but I really would have preferred the Canon version for those reasons. The Canon 17-55mm would have been a joy to use with the Micro as well as the 35mm f/2.

  10. Really enjoyed the visor camera this year in Formula 1. Clearly a long way to go with better sensors and image quality, but the tech is pretty unique. Very important aspect is it passes FIA safety checks. It was a GoPro which allegedly killed Michael Schumacher because it punctured the helmet on impact during the infamous skiing accident. If there are any avid go-kart enthusiasts here, would be interesting to check out the off the shelf visor camera he mention as the image quality looks pretty good with that one and in many ways better. https://store.camboxmeca.com/en/content/14-cambox-mkv4-pro?utm_source=vision-v4

  11. I'll be honest I have been looking to buy a modern R series camera used and other than the R5 which I can't ever afford, I am hard pressed to see the magic CS of old days. I think a new Sony looks more like a Canon than a Canon! I think the original C300, C100, 1DC, C500 all sort of had the Canon look I liked. Now I have seen some of the R series photos that look damn good, but you can see they have been processed to hell and gone. You didn't have to do that years ago. I have lost all interest in buying the newer stuff.

  12. Yeah 1D C has serious mojo especially in Canon LOG, big fat files full of nice colour and texture, not over processed, not too electronic. I still have mine and will never sell it however obsolete it gets 🙂

  13. Been trying to find a deal on one of these for awhile. Just missed one with a speed booster and cage for less than $600. Prices seem to be on the rise, grrr.. Chris
