    Canon EOS R5C

Checking Gordon's preview of R5C it definitely fixed the annoy thing I had with R5 when shooting interior archiecture walk through, the oversampling 4K50/60P fixed the annoy aliasing issue on some details, and IBIS wobble when paired with UW lens. Though handheld shoot R5 will still be better due to IBIS, but sadly most of my shoot is on gimbal 99% of the time so kinda make IBIS moot. Anyway I got company to preorder one.. hopefully to get one in march, it should pair up nicely with the existing C300III/C70/R5. My 20,000mAh 45A Powerbank should support 8K60P without problem.

Maybe it has to do with the high resolution / noise reduction / skin softening. I just get iPhone vibes with the whole color pallet and texture.

    Best Control Surface?

This is an interesting product that has dual slide outs for holding other equipment. Might be a bit heavy though but something that could be used as, erm, "inspiration" for something DIY. https://www.amazon.co.uk/AboveTEK-Portable-Retractable-Non-Slip-Notebook/dp/B074473Z6T Tangent, who make hardware control surfaces for Resolve, have something that might be worth looking at. Its a virtual control surface that runs on iPad or Android tablets so it would satisfy the criteria of it being compact as you can scale it by dint of what size of tablet that you run on it. You can even run it on different units at the same time so you could have one tablet running the screen with the control wheels on it and another the transport page etc. It doesn't have any mad requirements on the tablet side so it will run any cheapo 7" no brand model so a couple of those will still give you a sub €150 solution. There is a free version available to try out to see if it suits and the full version is €8.99 (you only need one copy for multiscreen operation). https://www.tangentwave.co.uk/products/ If you don't fancy the idea of virtual surfaces, Tangent's compact Ripple controller might be worth a look if you can find one.

  4. According to the listed specs on B&H, PSA it DOES have a Full Frame Open Gate 24X36 8K mode in CRL. For anamorphic users, that puts it in a category that only a handful of other cameras hit.

what "clay" skin-tones? always thought Canon was well regarded when it came to skin tones.

And 1GBps for 8K 12-bit footage is reasonable compromise compared to even ProRes HQ data rates at 10-bit. There are a shit ton of codec options for everybody. 95% solutions to high +2GBps RAW options. Sounds good to me.

  7. One article says the EIS crop factor is 1.25, so I think that makes the widest a 22.5mm - wider than 24mm but really not by much. Not really a good vlogging setup. It's a tough one for compact vlogging if you want wider than 20mm and stabilised. The X3000 action camera has gimbal-like OIS built-in but doesn't zoom or have crazy slow-motion, but on the other hand its fixed focus means no more AF debates - it's the only type of focus system that is actually reliable.

It actually is only 640mbps vs 410mbps. (I think that's the rate spec.) Pretty hopeful it'll do okay on the M1 laptops.

I disagree that it's the same. Firstly, the human eye has limits, and depending on a range of factors those are somewhere between 2K and 4K. Most of the time publishing in anything over 4K will be a complete and utter waste of time, with exceptions being things like Omni, which are super rare. The downsampling argument is reasonable but the GH5 downsamples from 5K to 4K, and has been doing so since 2017, and there are very serious diminishing returns that kick in for this. Downsampling 8K to 4K would not have much advantage over downsampling 6K to 4K for example. VFX is fine, but how many productions were saying "we need 8K RAW for VFX but somehow couldn't just rent an UMP12K" or "we shoot VFX on so many productions that it's commercially viable to buy a R5C, but we couldn't justify buying a UMP12K". I totally understand that there are lots of shooters who would like the form-factor of a R5C and wouldn't be able to use a UMP12K, but these users are not heavy VFX users. It's a different audience. VR is a completely different beast and this is where resolution really does matter (because that 2K limit to human vision is over a narrow FOV) but anyone filming VR isn't using a R5C to do it. They're using a dedicated VR camera like the Insta360 Pro 2, which means no messing around with lenses, sensor plane alignments, inter-eye distance calibration, etc etc etc. Fast forward a bit and think about the statement "we need 24K because it's the year 2030" and see how ridiculous that is. Therefore there's a point at which mostly we have enough resolution for most things on most cameras. That point is now in our rear-view mirror...

    Panasonic GH6

Sdi, timecode, internal nds, a Super35 sensor with full VLog and Varicam color, an Oplf filter plus the announced specs, all that in a robust body with the outstanding battery life of the Lumix GH series! Percect dream (camera:). The Gh4 could be coupled with a sdi and xlr extension. Why not offer something like that for the Gh6, just (much) smaller with a much more elegant power solution.

  14. WINNING! TLDR; The combo of a eBay keypad and the USB Overdrive utility (for Mac) is a winner with Resolve, and likely other NLEs too. Longer version.... My portable editing setup now includes the BM Speed Editor, the Beatstep controller and Beatstep Resolve Edition software, and now this little custom keypad. The keypad and USBOverdrive allows macros, so you hit one key and it sends the computer a string of keyboard commands. In combination with the keyboard shortcuts in your NLE, you can make it do pretty cool stuff. In the Cut page, the Speed Editor works in a certain way which creates limitations, and Resolve has a few bugs (in my version at least) that also limit things. I have set keys that highlight the current clip, trim start/end to playhead, then unselect all clips. Or similar but splitting the clip. Or similar but ripple deleting the clip. These are mostly workarounds to the peculiarities of Resolve and the Cut page and Speed Editor, but I think it's an excellent addition to using it. I can navigate using the wheel on the Speed Editor, hit a key and trigger a macro, and then fine-tune on the Speed Editor if further refinement is required, and then keep going. I had some, let's say, distracting, workarounds that I had to do in order to perform these functions involving not only having to take my hands off the controller, but also triggering my frustration with BM at not building things in more flexible ways, which really took me out of the zone!

  16. If you don't mind paying a bit more then you might want to look at something like the Delux T11. This video shows it is a real world comparison in Resolve versus using keyboard shortcuts. To be honest though, if you are looking to get a slice of the editing acceleration that the DaVinci edit controller gives you then I think you could do a lot worse than the Contour ShuttlePro v2. I think a lot of people have forgotten about it because its been out so long but it really does offer some good functionality. You can combine it with one of the cheap programmable keyboards if you like too and also do the same with the cheaper Contour ShuttleXPress if you just want the jog/shuttle wheel and a few programmable buttons.

  18. I think you're a consumerist idiot. Genuinely - if you don't want hyped prices... why cut and paste a YouTube hype piece about it all over Internet forums. And then say "NOOOOOOOO" What are you? a 12 years old? This shill likely trawls this forum for content ideas - This thread being one. Which is why you see his F3 hype piece and smirky expression. Where do you think he genuinely got the idea for buying an F3 from? Do you really think he has a single original idea of his own? Youtube - the gold standard for scientific research 😂 And his stuff is that boring too, I can't get past the first 15 seconds

  20. Still think Komodo has it. Global shutter and Recode Raw > Canon Raw. That patent, may it burn in hell, is still doing its job.
