  1. Same here. On the one hand I'm glad I got to do a film and be a creative lynchpin in the process, but I didn't get fairly compensated for it. Could have easily made more money as a pan handler over the last 9 months that's been put into it. For perspective, I did a job for one week in 2021 and made twice as much doing that corporate thing as I did on the indyfilm. Yup. But I always tell myself unironically "posterity." Could be a prideful rationalization, but I lean into it. Be that as it may, we still have an active go-fund me for our film and we at least pull in some extended family and friends to help offset the financial hit. Still, it's a pittance. Thanks for the folks here taking a peek at the thing, btw. FYI, we're about one day from completion. Probably one more 8 hour session and it'll be complete. www.agiftforallagesfilm.com

Maybe I'm alone here but I totally embrace 8K. Can think of quite a few practical uses for it. If you don't need it you always got oversampled 6K/4K. That 8K50p RAW is something else. I've been working with (R5) 8K RAW footage recently and I'm loving it. It's that same effect of going 4K from FHD. It can't be unseen (even though I'm on a 5K monitor) and now regular non-oversampled 4K almost feels too soft. The really nice thing about R5C is you can jump from 8K/6K/4K/3K in all codecs with FF/S35/S16 crop factors. That just gives you so many options. Slashcam article also reveals 4K60p is no longer line skipping and 4K120p also takes a leap forward in IQ. I'm really starting to warm up to this camera, I was all set on C70 but I'm sort of GASing harder for R5C now. Couple grades from that video just for fun.. (model deserved better)

As far as I could understand, not every shots are handheld despite the information there... In any case, it's quite promising to those who only need it for shaky hands and use a gimbal when for camera movement shots: 8K 50p is pretty handy to replace a stills camera too ;- )

Right but don't take as a resolution example that re-graded screenshot from a 4K graded compressed YT image. The crop and grading possibilities from actual RAW 8K footage is on a complete other level! Again those are just screenshots from a 4K YT video.. wasn't really trying to make an argument for 8K there, just a regrade for fun.. Netflix is where it's moving tech wise and their requirements are +4K with most popular shows/films shot on RED (Monstro/Helium/Weapon) 8K, Venice 6K & Alexa 65. Hollywood cinema has much lower requirements as the majority of theatres still use 2K projection hence Alexa's long withstanding popularity.

  9. Good thread, Kye! Did you continue to experiment with disassembly? Someone posted over on MFLensess: With that in mind, I bought an inexpensive but highly-rated hygrometer. The maximum humidity over the last 24 hours or so is 47%. I'll keep an eye on it but perhaps a dry cabinet is not necessary here. Last night, I did a partial assembly of my Kern Switar 10mm 1.6, which was my favorite lens to become infected. Following a YouTube teardown, I carefully removed all of the elements, putting everything into an ice tray to help me with sequencing. When I got to the element with the "fungus", I was surprised to see that it looked like a very long piece of fuzz. It was probably an inch long in total. The end of us it was sticking straight up at me, as if the element had been holding it down. To remove it, I used a pair of tweezers and just pulled straight up. It came up in one piece! There were also two other similar pieces, though they were shorter. I'm not even sure that this was fungus after all. Maybe just some nasty dust? In any case, it needed to come out because even if it wasn't fungus, it could have become a food source for some. After the removal, I blasted the assembly with my UVC light for 5 minutes and then reassembled. Everything went so well that I decided to try to do the same with an old Kino Precision lens. There was no video for this one but I decided to see if I could figure it out. Bad idea. The rear element group came tumbling out all at once, and I have no idea of the original orientation of the elements. Also, I got all the way down to the aperture blades, and then when I tried to reassemble it and add the layer back in over top of the blades, it messed them up. I could never get them to sit properly again. This is maybe the third lens this has happened with and I felt bad about it. But then again, we're talking about an infested lens with a stuck focus that I bought for $20. It's not like it had a long life ahead of it.

  10. Yes, if you are using electronic EF lenses then there are no additional requirements. If you are using manual focus lenses then of course you need to add Nucleus-N or M motors. As above, the current production have all sold out and there will be another run when the component cost/supply chain issues have settled down so there is no ETA at the moment. If you have contacted or do contact cdatek regarding future availability then you will automatically receive an email when they are available.

  11. I was thinking about a beat up 5d3 for 400 Eur. But then the Eos M is such a small package with C-mount lenses and takes cheaper Sd cards and is much cheaper. Still got to look for adapter(s), 2nd and 3rd battery. I plan to take it as my to go camera rather than rigging it up. My S1 does 3x crop HD giving S16 feel but I find the Eos M super fascinating. For 72eur i dont miss ibis. For 4999 i would miss full hdmi though.😊 @Emanuel

In any case, handheld approach can fit the job for certain shooting style as it is easily possible to check it out on minute 5:01 there. Gordon Laing's test on 24-105mm f/4 @105mm looks also fairly decent, especially going along the Optical IS only or even coupled to Digital IS, High mode for best results, albeit the crop.

  15. 20 eu..... your a thief.... @PannySVHS. πŸ˜‰ None of my fd lenses were that cheap. But maybe i was a bit late starting to accumulate fd's. I think mark holtze and a few others had started waxing lyrical about the fd series lenses by then. You could try flocking your adapter with some black material, it would be a cheap exercise to try, and it may fix your light reflection problem. i wasn't trying to vilify the mft format, Far from it. However in a purely physical comparison mft is kinda small. I'm sure there are plenty of enthusiasts out there doing good work. However my youtube algorithm seems to of been hacked by gremlins, all i get is dross. My issue is leaning more towards influencers producing mediocre content or even wrong content. If i'm watching a utube its either to learn something or be entertained. If its entertained then i want to be left happy, buoyed, uplifted you know, generally more positive. Sadly there's not a lot of entertaining out there. I generally used to like camera conspiracies , however lately i'm not sure, just walking around and vlogging counts as a valid test anymore, not to mention the satirization going on . In small doses its ok but not every episode. That gets tedious. Sure you can take something away from his vlog but lately i have kinda been left wanting. Same goes for theoria apophasis, the last few episode i have seen from him. Have him sitting next to a pretend fire and he's just talks about stuff, saying if he flogging it it must be good. where's the evidence? the empirical data ? Maybe a pretend fire appears cozy from where your sitting, but where i am, a real fire is well... real cozy. πŸ˜ƒ In a nutshell i want to see a visual representation of the product pros / cons. Even warts and all is good with me at least i can see authenticity then. Not just talk or an opinion because that bores me to death and i cant help but wonder if my time might be better spent mowing the lawn. To paraphrase @MrSMW there's alot of dross out there, finding the gold can be a chore.

I don't think its happening in video mode. The LED issue is related to the way Nikon and Sony readout the sensor: 12 rows a time. If it was line by line, the banding would be single pixel thin, and therefore unnoticeable. However its only an issue with LED signage and wall displays, not LED lights.

  19. Convergent Design Gemini 4:4:4 Recorder was the only real solution back in the day I remember working well in 4 4 4 mode. There was some AJI stuff, but not as popular as the Convergent. No clue on the Blackmagic, never used one.

It's been cool to see Konica AR stuff get some love, they have some very nice lenses and some very cool/innovative ones. I use the Canon FD 35-105mm f/3.5 a lot and really enjoy the range. I'd love to see some footage from that Konica if you have some time at some point

  21. Yeah, been looking at getting either a Canon or a Sony to add to my collection just for the AF on a gimbal. Need to look in to it more though since there are a lot of boxes checked by the S5 that are un-checked by the R6 or the a7 IV.

  23. It's not a vintage gear competition is it though? It's about smallest and lightest possible, even if it's a big compromise on image quality. It's how you use it that counts. I will try and get time this week to start the competition on front of the blog, then we can put some basic rules for point scoring down (nothing strict) and get shooting!

    Lenses

After having tried this exiting lens and having tested three of them, I am impressed. First lens has a faulty aperture, which does not close when mounted to the camera. Second one has two deep scratches. Number three is almost like new. What a marvel to hold and operate. No 1 and 3 have great center sharpness wide open throughout the zoom range. The one with the scratches is sharp at 2.8 but has a glow and is uber hard to get things in focus with when wide open. Thanks to @Rinad Amir who pointed this lens out to us on this forum among the Zeiss 40-120 2.8 if i remember correctly. Anyway, even though this lens is impressive and a of 35 to 100mm range at 2.8 is a treat, this lens is not without challenges or should I say even moreso. Its varifocal construction means the focus marks are changing through the focussing range. One of my three lenses also has focal lengths changing when lens pointed 90 degrees up or down. @BTM_Pix I have to repeat and cite myself. So here i go:) "Great to see some love for the 135mm focal length. Beautiful shots. Would love to see a video of that. What codec and resolution did you choose?"😊

  27. Decided to pick one of these up for about 800 euros in Berlin off Amazon. It's good! Premium Apple-like build quality. 100% Display P3 gamut. HDMI input. Thin as a tablet. Two USB C inputs, powers over a single one, built in battery too. Adds touch screen capabilities to Mac OS, PC, etc. Bit like a Surface Pro but tethered to your desktop or laptop. It is pretty unique on the market. Of course the generic 1080p LCD models are much much cheaper at $200 but where's the fun in those?! πŸ™‚

Yeah they practically make a lot of sense. I think the downsides of the not so quick menu's and layout will be countered by the positives. One may not need to change from 24 to 120fps in 10 seconds depending on your clientele. BTW I just send my E2 S6 to the guy who does the Alexa LUTs so now I'll be able to match my S6 to my Pana S1, once he finishes the Lut.

I'm actually excited about the cam. I think it's the least expensive FF interchangeable pro videocamera ever, not counting the Z cam FF model? The latter does not include a monitor or XLR handle, so the price difference is actually not that much between the two once you add those expenses. As of of right now you can purchase the FX6 for USD$7K with a 24-105 Sony lens. That's a huge price difference from older FF pro videocamera models from less than 5-10 years ago where Arri and Red were practically the only players in town. I'm not a Sony fanboy, quite the contrary, but this thing opens a new market for prosumers and videographers who are not cine buffs and don't want/need to spend 10K on extra accesories to start shooting.
