  1. I mean the p4k does have a bit more dynamic range than the original pocket. and twice the battery life. some would argue that is a bit of progress, even if it costs a bit more than 1000$ now.

  2. I don't think I saw this mentioned in the thread, so far: The panel type is *critical*. Most LCD/LED monitors are TN or VA which have very high (good) contrast ratios. However, they have very narrow viewing angles which is very, very bad when you're evaluating colors. The ideal panel for editing photos and video are IPS (inline plane switching) which trade high color accuracy for lower contrast ratios. Almost all professional monitors are IPS. LED backlights are (theoretically) superior overall to the older CFL backlight method for LCDs. They *should* last longer, use less energy, and retain consistency of backlight color/accuracy longer. CFL backlights change with age and use. Which leads me to say that the age of a monitor only really matters if you're trying to match a pair -in which case you want to get the same exact monitor with as-closely-matching serial numbers as possible.

There is a switch, but I hadn’t accidentally tripped it. I just had no idea it could possibly connected to unmute video playback!

  4. Well my old monitor was an NEC and I replaced it with a Benq. The NEC was maybe 8 years old and cost me around 1250. The Benq I replaced it with (because it was in it’s way out) cost around 400. The Benq…comparing my two specific models looks ‘nicer’ to me and I guess that is progress for you. And 1/3rd the price. You probably can’t go wrong but I make no claims on being a monitor expert. Or an expert on anything at all 🤪

The Lumix S/R1 does have a hard switch for Silent Mode in front of the camera which can be flipped by accident. I think by default position 1 is normal and position 2 is silent.

8k50p won't work with internal battery, only external, yeah you are right it is a 45w powerbank, got mixed up with my other 18w pd.

  7. Happy pre birthday wishes then... Even in 9 to 5 jobs there are those that are married to it. Whether your a boss, employee or self employed i think contentment or a balance is the key. I liked my last job, then covid hit and i probably did two weeks work in two years. In that time my dad got ill, became pretty frail has alzeimhers. So now the government pays me a pension to take care of my father which includes showering and wiping his ass once a day. Let me just say any job where you dont have to wipe someone's ass is a good job lol. I only do it as he's looked after me his whole life, now its time i repaid the favour. Still i feel blessed, fortunate, lucky, i own my property, i live in a country with a pretty good health care system and there are no doubt people much worse off than me.

  8. Well... I can honestly say that I did buy an Olympus E-M1 MK II instead of a G85 / G9 / used GH5 due to autofocus concerns. On some projects I have my son second shoot for me, and I tried to get him to use my S5 and Panasonic 24-105 f/4, and it was so frustrating that I literally got on fredmiranda and bought the first E-M1 MK II I saw listed on there. And I actually WOULD sell all my Sony aps-c gear and invest in native L-Mount glass (or maybe a GH6) if I was more confident in the continuous AF of my S5 / S1 / GH6 cameras. I keep HOPING beyond hope that one day real soon Panasonic is going to release a firmware update that is going to fix everything.

Should be? But I would rather use powerbank which last ages, today I did an 8 hour shoot of talking to cam on 2K, the 20000mah 18W PD powerbank still have 1/4 power left. Btw those Lumix lens bag is sooo useful, I still use them to put small stuff like powerbank or accesories lol.

Got the R5c today, checked the video AF and it locked on fine. 512GB only last 30min of 8k50p, on 5.9k 50p it last nearly an hour which is more doable. Might have to use the speedbooster again for 5.9k raw 🤔 And battery life is much worse than R5, 4k50p last 40 something min so I guess I will be pairing with my 18w pd powerbank for long tripod shoot.. Btw absolutely no video on photo mode. You have to switch mode to do video and vice versa. Body and operating wise it feels like mini c70 when shooting video, better balance with lens than R5 I reckon.
