Late version of the Minolta 35mm f1.4. I like it as a middle ground between the 35mm f1.4 Nikon AIS and a more "clinical" lens like a Sigma Art lens or Rokinon.

  3. home and away might have been a poor choice, as you say. I would expect a level of difference between youtube and produced stuff. However if youtube stuff was up there with the travel guides then they'd probably get snapped up for a job pretty quickly i'd imagine. I might be showing my age abit here, but not sure everything that has a beat can be qualified as music. although i do think yt offers people more options off getting noticed, rather going begging at the doors of record companies.

  5. You said "some would argue that is a bit of progress" and I pointed out that the DR hasn't increased and the battery life also hasn't really increased. That was 5 years after the OG BMPCC. Personally, I think that given the huge increase in size and the time elapsed they could have made more substantial improvements to it. If you can't see it then that's fine - more power to you, but just because you can't see it doesn't make it fake. Otherwise, most of the stuff on earth is fake because I haven't seen it. Actually, I think that a staggeringly huge number of people have 4K TVs now. That's the whole point of the manufacturers flogging 4K and then 6K and now 8K and 12K. They aren't doing that to sell more cameras, they're doing that to sell more TVs. Go to your nearest big box store and see if they even sell a 1080p TV above a certain size.... I just went to target.com and looked at TVs from 30" up (they sell tiny portable ones too) and the cheapest one a 50" 4K for $319.

I might need to try on light lens (the 50/16 rf), atm only have L RF lens Btw this is how I usually shoot with r5c, use powerbank connect directly to camera

  7. Plus you get a Resolve Studio dongle, well a credit card thingy lol, which you can use or sell. A bargain really.

  8. Plus it lost the filmic Mojo look of the OG. It looks better than a lot of cameras but it is not better.

  9. Remembering we're talking about editing here, and not colour grading, the Speed Editor is quite modestly priced, and the jog wheel (which is the thing you're interacting with most of the time) is super high quality. Having something where you can add one-press functions is really useful too. Lots of tasks can be hugely streamlined with this kind of tweaking. Something that saves even a fraction of a second can save hours or even days of work per project - the average feature film contains about 2000 shots per hour of edited footage and when you think about how many times an edit is adjusted and tweaked during the process.... With numbers like that it adds up really quickly.

If using internal battery, if powered external there is IS from the lens.

Oops u r right, it can record internally but will show this message. I use mi powerbank pro 3 20000mah 45w, I see they have new model with 50w power, u just plug usb-c/usb-c port to both the powerbank and on the camera, no need decoupler

  12. Battery life is similar if you use current battery tech - I have personally recorded 49 minutes of uncompressed RAW from a single battery on the OG BMPCC. Depending on which SNR figure you look at, the P4K has either 0.4 or 0.2 extra stops of DR. Plus the P4K is almost 3x the size of the OG. Definitely sounds like a decade well spent...... *cough* *cough* *cough*

  13. All I'm saying is that I had my son second shoot a classical music trio (two violins and a cello) on the E-M1 II while I was shooting it on my S1 and we were both panning between the musicians or tilting up from the instruments to their faces to their hands, and while the Oly might miss focus once or twice for a fraction of a second here or there, with the S1, I ended up having to use manual focus because there were so many times where either it focused on the background (50 feet away), or it just focused on air somewhere between the subject and I. There were times when a white box would show up around the performer's face, demonstrating that the camera recognized there was a face in the frame, but it still decided to focus on an oak tree far off in the distance. Now, manual focus on the S1 isn't TOO particularly difficult, but it is a BIG camera and heavy, so shooting handheld and having to pull focus manually resulted in shaky footage, as my aging hands aren't particularly smooth on a good day, and by take five, I was pretty tired. I guess I am going to end up getting a native 20-60mm lens and use my S5 on my Weebill S so that I can use the built-in control wheel on the Weebill S to hopefully manual focus without having too shaky footage. Not looking forward to it though because while the S5 is MUCH lighter than the S1, the LCD screen isn't as good and the focus peaking isn't as good either. Oh, and shooting that classical music trio reminded me how much I dislike Sony 8-bit colors (I had my a6500 as my D cam... if I had used it for only close up shots of the instruments it might have been ok, but I can't seem to get any decent skin tones out of it. Don't know how Deadcode does it).

  14. Very true but it is a shame that it is still the smallest company out there with the best product DR wise that is affordable yet. What is wrong with that picture. Seems like the big boys are playing games as usual.

  15. Well sure IPS is the way to go with led backlight, but he would be limited to 2K, I know of no 4K for the money he is talking. If he is content with 2k sure. I would rather have a newer BenQ EW3270U with a VA panel than an older monitor even if IPS with the older CFL backlight. They are bad when you look at them at sharp angles also. Plus, the bulb gets weaker with age. No free lunch sad to say.

  16. I don't think I saw this mentioned in the thread, so far: The panel type is *critical*. Most LCD/LED monitors are TN or VA which have very high (good) contrast ratios. However, they have very narrow viewing angles which is very, very bad when you're evaluating colors. The ideal panel for editing photos and video are IPS (inline plane switching) which trade high color accuracy for lower contrast ratios. Almost all professional monitors are IPS. LED backlights are (theoretically) superior overall to the older CFL backlight method for LCDs. They *should* last longer, use less energy, and retain consistency of backlight color/accuracy longer. CFL backlights change with age and use. Which leads me to say that the age of a monitor only really matters if you're trying to match a pair -in which case you want to get the same exact monitor with as-closely-matching serial numbers as possible.

  17. No video evidence (well I do but I'm not posting it) but finished my final pre-wedding season AF tests and can report that the S5 with the 20-60 is in fact 'quite decent'. My final tests today were based on it being mounted on a tripod with the Sony ZV1 hotshoe mounted for comparison. It did pretty well and was mostly reliable with all the walking towards tests. Anything else is a breeze. Tripod, 4k 50p, Natural profile tweaked to my taste, one area AF + face, speed -1, sensitivity -3, f5.6 and shot at 20mm 35mm and 60mm. I was going to test the 24-105 also but in the end decided not to because the few times I need AF and the above combo, the 24-105 is shooting stills on my S1R so of no use to me whether it's better or worse! Some folks reckon it's actually better and I suspect it might be by a small margin, but the 20-60 is OK for my needs. The combo actually BEAT the ZV1 on one occasion and that was a mock exit where I 'walked up the aisle' and the S5 tracked me perfectly and the ZV1 decided the background trees were more interested. F**k you Sony Boy! My final conclusion is this entire season of 33 hybrid shooting weddings, I'm going with: S1R 90% stills, 10% handheld or monopod video. S1H 100% manual focus handheld, monopod or tripod (ceremony) video. S5, manual focus ceremony and speeches, AF entrances, exits, confetti etc, 100% on the tripod. I did use this combo 5th of last years meagre 5 weddings and the S1H + pair of S5's combo the 4 previous so know it well enough now. Just nailed down now what is being used where, how and with what lenses as a workflow based system. Juggled with the drone, ZV1 (BTS) and Action Go 2 (timelapse). Phew 😜 Bring on the rest of '22!
