    Olympus OM-1

My review is up at Petapixel for those interested. Been using the camera for the past month and a half and I love it. Video quality is really very good. Amazing color. https://petapixel.com/2022/03/29/om-digital-om-1-review-the-best-micro-four-thirds-camera-ever-made/

  3. That deal, dear Sir John, is of the rather splendid kind. 🙂 @John Matthews I challenge that with 1080 60p RAW for under 251! Is it possible? Yes, it is. I got a second BMMCC body with..., ahem, ahem... without anything else, not even charger nor battery, for 250 EUR, if seller is not a fraud though.

  5. Had the opportunity to interview Masanori Koyama, product planner for the GH6 and S1H: https://www.eoshd.com/news/interview-with-panasonics-masanori-koyama-product-planner-for-the-gh6/ Hope you enjoy.

  6. That's a great! I'm happy for you. I've never had that camera, but I've watched a lot of footage. I usually never see them under 600 euros here and I've always said that if I really wanted a Blackmagic, I'd go for a used Pocket 4k as they only go for about 200 more. Like the GH2, the BMMPC camera is iconic. I end up hanging on to stuff like that because I'm a sucker for that stuff. I still have my 60 Euro special GH2 as a backup live-stream camera for my English classes.

  7. What a fascinating thing it would be to shoot with a curved sensor... I have distant memories of 360degree panorama pictures taken on film on a special setup that actually exposed a thin vertical strip and rotated the whole camera around on a tripod while moving the film behind it. You end up with something crazy wide and no wide-angle distortion. Great stuff.

  8. I hope if/when Andrew will sell his beloved EOSHD, he may open a new one where we can all come aboard once again : D along his unique contribution to the mirrorless world IMO as the most important pioneer (of the whole press) he is :- )

  10. I agree with @mercer that it's true in my experience. I've shot at length with the GH5, including doing many tests to try and understand the best settings and colour grading treatments, but when I bought a BMMCC, put a lens and monitor on it, and then waved it around at the beach, pulled it into post and did basic adjustments, all of a sudden I had some of the best images I'd ever shot. My level of cunning was no different when shooting on the BMMCC than on the GH5, either before or since, so I think it's a valid test. The images I got from my Panasonic GF3 and vintage lenses also had some magic to them that the GH5 does not willingly provide either. As you know, I've tried and tried to find what explains these differences, designing and executing test after test with controlled and isolated variables, and come up empty on basically every occasion. There are some interesting comments in there from Masanori Koyama, and although a lot of it is "PR level" communication, it is interesting the way he talks about the overall vision and hinting at how they are trading-off features against each other. I'm really looking forward to seeing the 1080p Prores HQ and the RAW files that come out of the GH6 once the firmware update is released.

  11. I'll cross my fingers that it's genuine and fully functional. If it is then that is an absolutely blindingly good price!

  12. Hehe. Andrew does an awesome interview with the Japanese head engineer and includes his masterful vignettes with the Lumix GH cameras. I then rewatch two GH1 pieces and read into the vimeo comments for his masterful "Tokyo Storm". There I read a certain comment out of all the appreciative exited voices. I go to the commenters vimeo site and I discover this, filmed with HD camcorders cameras and the quasi 720p machine that the EOSD 700D is. I zipp through the video, watch parts of it and hopefully will watch the whole film. But check out from 18 to 20min. Awesome, simple, masterful, Tokyo Storm qualities from a Tokyo Storm admirerer. Cheap cameras Black and White galore and glory. 19.50min- wow.

  13. I always said, EOSHD library is a treasure chest. Forum family just didnt seem to hunt for it enough. Member posts are also gems to be treasured dearly. Andrews interview with Lumix GH pieces is my favorite journalistic camera piece of 2022 so far! Had to watch the GH1 piece and GH2 anamorphic in Spreepark Berlin. Thank you very much, Andrew. Great form, taste and article! @Andrew Reid Giving back some memories with the Spreepark piece! @mercer Well said, Awesome! Great mojo of older and interesting tech is exactely the mojo and asset of this site!

    Canon EOS R5C

Yes, at some point delivery bit rate formats become an issue at higher resolutions. I've seen 100Mbps 4K 180VR that looks very good, and at the same time 6K 180 VR at 30Mbps that looks like crap. FPS is a big deal too. I'm going to a lot of testing between 120fps 4K and 8K 60fps. There aren't many 120fps VR videos out there, and I think it could look really sweet (with a sufficient bit rate), especially in scenes with a lot of action. I can't wait for my R5C, until then my Canon 5.2mm fisheye VR lens is a glorified paper weight. I think I was one of the first pre-orders, so hopefully any day now.

  16. He does supernatural investigation videos too. Maybe he got a tip off from the other side that the end was nigh for camera reviews. Equally they might have told him to repent.
