  1. So this is funny... just a couple days after posting this a friend gave me a really, really good deal on a Panasonic S5, and so I am now the owner of a Panasonic Lumix S5 🤦‍♂️

  2. It's really only the stills side I am interested in Kye. Video capability would be a bonus but the reality is I shoot: 10 bit 4k 50p internally, IBIS and need a tilt screen. I could get around the lack of IBIS with the OIS of a zoom, but then f4 in low light when I shoot f2 primes... I'm actually looking at investing in a small set of cinema primes, more for the fine focus than what I have now, but we'll see... For this, IBIS is going to be essential for me. I'm in no particular rush and trying to get Sigma France to loan me an FP-L for a couple of gigs but as yet, have not heard back. Right now, any and everything within the L Mount Alliance is my preferred option, but I'm still keeping an eye on other future potential options and there is nothing that is not on the table. Current issues? Very VERY few... Good tracking AF is the weakness, but less than 5% of my needs. Size & weight is the other. Apart from that, I'm a happy bunny with the kit I have. I'd just like a pair of S1H's with 30mp in an identical body, but just shrunk down to S5 size & weight with improved tracking AF and I'd never want for anything more because in every other regard, I've already hit my needs requirements. Still hoping there is a next gen FP that answers at least some of many potential users desires...

    Sigma FP

@kye I just checked, with a VA I can record Braw 1080p 119.88fps. In Resolve, a clip I shot at UHD 25p is said to be 16bit... but I don't think that's right. This file is straight out of the Video Assist, recorded in Braw Q5. In an app called SCOOP! - which tells you metadata, it says the bitrate is Variable. I'm not sure exactly what the numbers are, but in real life, I love Braw out of the Sigma. It's my go-to camera at the moment. EDIT: Interestingly, a clip from my P4k also says 16bit in Resolve...

  4. No interest whatsoever in the DSR5P for me, it's only dual channel Do see I linked to the wrong one, I meant this: https://www.lectrosonics.com/dsr4.html I want that sexy quad channel DSR4! US$4.5K each. https://www.gothamsound.com/product/dsr4-four-channel-digital-slot-receiver-pre-order-deposit As for coffee, I'm a 20c coffee man.

  5. Actually, I think now is the perfect time for manufacturers to separate AF from face-recognition. On my GH5 it keeps the two together and so if you have AE on and enable AF then face-recognition turns on, sees the face, then adjusts the exposure to properly expose the skin-tones, but then if you turn AF off then it goes back to exposing the scene like a landscape in some generic way. Yet another way to say "if you use auto then you don't care about quality". If we're going to have the camera do something automatically then it should do it how we would do it - which is to expose the skintones correctly. If you want to adjust for a particular situation then that's what Exposure Compensation is for, right? If BM were to release a box-style camera then I'm not sure if I'd lean to the 12K sensor, or the 6K sensor from the P6K due to its much better low-light and dual-native ISO (the UMP12K is limited to 3200 ISO in firmware I believe). If they were to expand their range, it would make sense to me that they'd go MF/LF by splicing 2 or 3 of the 12K sensors together to go head-to-head with the Alexa LF, and that for the second one they'd go small and put the P6K sensor in a small box camera for drones / vehicle mounts / gimbals / light or b-camera duties.

  6. Besides the Kinefinity MAVO Edge 6K Digital Cinema I am not aware of any other professional video cameras being released at NAB 2022. It used to be companies would book purchases with manufactures for the next TV season at NAB. This does not seem like a thing anymore, but I could be wrong. It really makes sense for there to be a $5k URSA 8k box camera with the same 12k sensor just with limited resolution and maybe a Canon RF mount and on sensor electronic ND. And at the same time release the 12k G2 with on sensor electronic ND audio for $6,995. There would be lots of people willing to upgrade for electronic ND's... maybe a late summer camera line refresh highlighting an electronic ND management system the always keeps the video signal under peaking and has meta data for smooth exposure ramping post.

    Lenses

I shot a short film yesterday and used the Canon 35mm f/2 for a few shots. What a great utility prime with IS. Here are a few shots with a quick LUT thrown on. The film may end up being in B&W.

  8. My experience has been very good with two Sigma lenses and AFC (Area+ Human/Animal detect on) for video recording. Both 4K 60P 10-bit 422 and 5.9K 30P 12-bit RAW (both to external Atomos Ninja V). The two lenses I use are: 1. Sigma 14-24mm DG DN f/2.8 Art - Firmware updated to version 1.3 2. Sigma 24-70mm DG DN f/2.8 Art - Firmware also updated to version 1.3 Panasonic Lumix S5 is currently on firmware 2.4 (some bluetooth fixes since version 2.3, no AF changes mentioned in release notes). In a variety of lighting situations, I'm able to move from subject to subject and have the focus work well to my expectations. This is even when at 70mm. Linear focus support in MF was also added to the Sigma lenses with this firmware update. You still need to use a USB L-Mount dock and the Sigma optimization software to adjust the focus through (runs just fine on my 14" MacBook Pro M1 Max, so the software is Apple Silicon compatible). The dock is not needed for firmware updates, you can do them in camera just like Panasonic lens updates. In addition, the default Linear MF is good, so adjusting it might not be necessary for most. For those that have the lenses already, try updating them and giving the AF another test. As for photography, these are excellent as well.

  9. @Sage I'm still absolutely loving this LUT, and it just keeps getting better and better! I use it for pretty much every single project I shoot, S1 for A-cam and GH5 for b-cam, but lately, combined with anamorphic and pro res raw, it has felt extra tasty. I just love what it does to greens, especially. These screenshots are some standouts from the past couple weeks. Thanks for all your hard work! I recommend your Alexa LUT to all my lumix-shooting friends 👌🏻
