  1. The Canon board must all gather in front of that cripple hammer every night and serenade it.

  2. APS-C is still alive? Hopeful for some "pro" RF-S lenses in the future to pair with the C70. For now.. we a 7k oversampled 4k image on the R7 with uncrossed 4k at 60fps. Clog3 and no time limit. Wonder if the IBIS is less "wobbly" with the smaller sensor...

  4. Overheating seems to be an issue in downsampled 4K, with Canon saying you can get about an hour before it overheats. Pixel binned 4K 60p also apparently overheats. 4K 60p in crop mode apparently doesn't overheat and has a sharper image than the pixel binned 4K 60p that does.

  5. I might get a pair to shoot weddings with. What's the AF like? (Not really and I'm not interested in proper cine cameras because I'm not a proper filmmaker)

  6. well this came out of nowhere !? seems like you've got the usual Canon limitations when you check the fine print: The R7's cropped 4K/60 applies a 1.81x crop on top of the sensor's existing 1.6x crop, relative to full-frame. This will be useful for achieving a zoomed-in look but means you're using just 1/4 of the camera's sensor, so there'll be a significant noise cost in all but the best light. The oversampled 4K 'Fine' setting can record for approximately 30 minutes. There are no thermal limits listed for the sub-sampled or cropped modes. so it's not just a 1.8x crop its 1.8x on top of 1.6x 🙄 and the 7K oversampled 4K overheats under 30mn. so that leaves you with: line-skipped uncropped 4K. C70 has the best DR of any Canon cam thanks to the DGO sensor. Also has Clog2. 4K120p no crop. Canon RAW Light. Only thing R7 has over it is oversampled 4K but yeah it'll be interesting to compare. I'm curious if C70s speed booster will be compatible too.

  7. ALEXA-35 Looks nice. Built in ND filter and a smaller RED / ALEXA MINI form factor. Will be interesting to see how the new sensor holds up. 17+ stops dynamic range! https://www.eoshd.com/news/new-arri-alexa-leaks-dubbed-alexa-35-17-stops-dynamic-range-and-4k-120fps/

  8. So 100% trust in the clickbait weasels after the R5 debacle then I see!

  9. ..you can find Alexa's for as cheap as $4K. obviously very used (+6000 hours) and the older models but there are deals out there. and with this new generation, hopefully means more lower priced Alexas to be found on second hand market for us common mortals that dream of owning one some day.

  10. No BSI, no fast read out, no clean 4k60, no CF express slot, and ridiculous EVF for the price. Fuji gonna be fine.

  11. Ok video specs are still a little confusing but from what I understand: 4K60p (oversampled) = no crop line-skipped 4K60p (1:1) = 1.6x + 1.8x crop So both 4K60p modes suffer quality hit. 4KFine (30p) is where its at for HQ IQ. It's rated at 30mn overheat but Gordon Laing shows a test with over 2 hours without overheat as do other youtubers. If that's really the case then that is the mode where it's going to be at for video.

  13. wow.. was not expecting that kind of form factor! built-in NDs also rather surprising.. I guess they're also aiming at docu & action shooters that want the most compact rig. just pop on a lens and shoot. very interesting. oh and that rumoured DR is crazy. yeah new Hollywood standard for sure!

  14. So, unless you are trying to shoot video of the moon the video portion is pretty useless if true. Ah good old Canon, never changes.

  15. I was in the market for a a6400, but couldn't find any in stock. But with these new Canons, I feel like Sony is way overdue for a new APS-C sensor with 4K60p, uncropped please.

  16. Odd that my YT feed didn't have a few rows of time-released review videos... maybe Canon didn't hit the usual suspect camera reviewers? Interesting cameras though if they're able to give reasonable quality 4K footage for a reasonable price, as opposed to 8K60 RAW that basically no-one needs.

  17. I'm having a vague recollection that we've had this conversation before? I remember someone saying that 1) colour was a very high priority for them, 2) canon colours weren't good enough, and 3) they weren't willing to learn to colour grade. I remember the thread went no-where because it's not a solvable problem. Interesting video. I'm reminded of the GoPro promo videos where each 10s section was shot by a 5+ person production team over the course of a week - highly highly highly cherry-picked shots. I think for someone who doesn't want to do any work in post, a phone will actually be less usable than a larger sensor camera. Yes, the footage can look great, but if you wave the camera around and then just apply a LUT in post then an Alexa will create the most usable shots, an ILC camera will create less, and the phone will create the least, just because it has a narrower set of circumstances where all factors are within its sweet spot where it creates a great looking image. If only they were limited to being a senior - I've been having them my whole life!

  18. Sorry I don't know any specific R6 blogs/videos. This forum is one of the best places though! Been shooting Canon professionally for years. The advice I just gave you is the best I can think of. Well one more important thing, try setting your AWB settings to "priority white". Because by default R6 goes to a (imo) unpleasing yellow cast in mixed lighting. I think R6 surpasses Fuji colours but that's purely subjective. Color science is a very personal thing. Fuji does have some of the best white balance and that can make a substantial difference in overall color science. So again check your AWB setting! What bothers you with R6 colours exactly, can you be more specific?

  19. Actually, there are a few vocal pros posting here of late, but the majority are not pros. You mentioned not wanting to learn colour, but @Djangos advice is right - shoot in LOG and just use a LUT. The reason that SOOC doesn't work with "cinematic" and "family" and "video" is that SOOC profiles have limited dynamic range and this has a very video look to it, which is the opposite of cinematic. It is possible to get great looking SOOC footage, but you have to control your lighting and guess what - that's not what you're doing when you shoot family stuff! Shoot LOG and use a LUT or transform. "learning colour" isn't what you think it is either. "learning colour" is kind of like saying "learning painting". It takes 2 minutes to learn to hold a brush and paint stick figures, and many lifetimes to learn to paint like Rembrandt. If you want your footage to look cinematic then you're going to at least have to learn how to adjust whitebalance in post. One of the least cinematic looking things I see is when people don't do that on their videos. What about video? OP said he's 70% video and 30% stills.

  21. Should mean better low light performance. ARRI in my opinion has never been super clean in the shadows, maybe that will change with this one. But yeah the LF is beautiful hard to argue against it lol. Lots of people like the Venice for it's 2500 dual native ISO.

  22. if he is not happy with his Fuji in low light that smart phone isn't going to cut it. I like the colors in Canon LOG2 after just throwing a lut on. Of course you gotta get the WB right. Fuji Autofocus has improved since the XT2 and the 10 bit H265 looks better in low light than the 8 bit coming out of the XT2, similar amounts of noise though.

  23. I don't think that is likely to happen. I think this new S35 camera is the first in an entirely new line up. I think we will see a higher resolution full frame camera to replace the LF. ARRI is still leading in Dynamic range 10 years after their first camera was released(2011 approx). It sounds like this camera will have higher color depth and dynamic range. Maybe this will be a 14 or 16 bit log image, which would make sense if the camera boasts 16 stops of dynamic range.

  24. If you like Fuji just go with that. You'll never really be able to get Canon to look like Fuji. I personally love the Canon look and the R6 is a great choice overall. Two cameras for family stuff seems annoying. I think Fuji is very usable up to 3200 iso which is enough for most things. Get some fast lenses.

    Panasonic GH6

No, that's Dual Native ISO, not Dual Gain like the GH6 is. Dual Native ISO is when the camera has two native ISO values that it can choose from and picks the best one to use at any given time. Dual Gain (in the sense of the ALEV, Canon DGO, and GH6) is when the sensor has two outputs that each have a different gain and those two outputs are used simultaneously and combined with each other to create a higher DR image, in-camera, in realtime. This is the info from ARRI - https://www.arri.com/en/learn-help/technology/alev-sensors It's something people get confused between, because it's so rare and.... innovative.
