Ok, I got it now! They were only a couple left in Canon Greece (I doubt they will be more on shops as I searched on the usual suspects in the local market and they were none on stock), and it seems that it is discontinued, or something. I am sure Canon has a different priorities right now, than to spend valuable resources on such a specialized item. Well, the thing really works, it is a bit expensive at 159€ (don't remember the original price), it is very small and light, it does the obvious thing, power zooming, different speeds to the touch (depending the pressure you apply), 2 main speeds to start off (Slow/Fast) and that's it.. (Manual/Power zooming switch also). One additional plus is that I can hold the combo (camera/lens) a lot better now, it offers a base for my left arm and everything has improved. I am quite happy about this unexpected benefit, as it matches my holding style perfectly. The 18-135 nano is a bit front heavy (plus the adapter, that extends the center of weight of the lens further from the camera body) and I wasn't 100% happy with it. One of the reasons I do not like to use adapters in generala; But as I consider the RF-S 18-150mm I downgrade, from the ultra fast focusing EF-S lens, plus the ability to use vND adapters (and have a usable and dead cheap run n gun kit) made me keep the EF-S lens instead of the RF. Plus I have the PZ-E1 thingy now! The sound of the motor is not that prominent, but it is definitely audible from microphones on the camera (even external ones, but on the camera). The slower it goes, the more silent it is, and I guess it won't be an issue on a busy market in Bangkok, but obviously there is a little motor in there, there is no question about it! All in all, not a life-changing experience, but a nice thingy to have for the purposes I mentioned above, also, I can imitate various genres fast zoom-ins now, without any guilt!2 points

Micro Four Thirds mount lenses on Fuji cameras
Adept reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
I remember @Emanuel raising the possibility of using Micro Four Thirds glass on Fuji cameras. Well I asked RAF Camera to make a prototype for EOSHD and here it is. So in past year I have been experimenting with a lot of M43 glass on the Super 35mm sensor of the Fuji X series cameras. We see beyond the usual 2x crop image circle! Here's what I found: - X-T4 has a Micro Four Thirds 2x crop mode in the menus. So you can use anything on that, basically. - The adapter doesn't have any electronics capabilities (maybe later?) so I have only been trying manual focus lenses - Voigtlander super fast F0.95 primes look lovely on a Fuji! - Some M43 lenses even cover the entire Super 35mm sensor - X-H1 is 1.7x crop in 4K so that works well, as it is closer to the 1.86x crop of the GH2 or multi-aspect sensor Panasonic bodies - The affordable Meike cinema lenses work brilliantly as these are all Super 35mm lenses just different mounts (they come in Fuji X-mount versions and Micro Four Thirds, with same optics for both) - SLR Magic stuff very tasty with it especially on the X-T4 in 2x crop mode - Focus to infinity is fine (sometimes slightly over even) So I am wondering, how much interest would there be in an EOSHD branded adapter for Fuji X cameras, that enables you to use Micro Four Thirds glass? This is the only adapter in the world of this type. I have been wondering how many of you have both Micro Four Thirds mount glass and Fuji cameras, maybe you switched but didn't sell all your GH5 lenses? Maybe you are just curious to turn your X-T4 into a GH6? Or interested to discover the unique images made from one of your exotic Micro Four Thirds mount lens on an X-H2S? Also rather than buy separate lenses for Fuji and Panasonic you can use one set on both systems (as in Meike 25mm T2.2 for instance!) If there is enough interest in the adapter I'll put RAF on notice and finally start that Indiegogo up!1 point -

Hello everyone. Forum is 50/50 sharing EOSHD with my content. So half the traffic goes to posts on the forum and half goes to my articles and content. I would like to make some changes to EOSHD to make it more sustainable and grow again after a difficult period. 1. Definitely want to keep in touch and talk to my mates here on the forum. So not going to close the place down or suddenly let it go dark. How do people feel about a Reddit group or a Discord server, which are more smartphone friendly and a bit more about realtime chat and problem solving compared to a thread on a forum which may stretch over many pages and takes a lot of time to delve into? Maybe a better medium for lighter discussions and chat? 2. Financial side of EOSHD is not good at the moment. The forum might have to make way for the blog to put the attention 100% on my content. I can't see a viable way to make money from the forum. I don't think I want to put advertising everywhere either. If you can suggest a way to fund the forum and keep it going, I'd like to know your thoughts on that. 3. Small number of regular users are creating most of the content. We need to grow. Any ideas related to this very welcome. I can't really get my head around it. A very busy forum has crossed into that dangerous territory where a very small minority of regular users are making 99% of the posts. We need a more diverse range of topics and to not have the few interesting pieces flooded with 20 pages of armchair opinions 🙂 4. How the forum shares the domain with my own content needs to change especially on smartphones. If anyone can suggest new forum software that integrates seamlessly with a blog I am all ears as cannot seem to find any at all. 5. If forum is to come to an end after 11 years, it will because all replacements, shake-ups, redesigns and all ideas are exhausted and it becomes financially unviable for me to run it. I didn't agree at all with the way Cinema5D suddenly dumped their forum. All that info and all those posts in the bin. I didn't know what the rationale was behind it at all. Selling it to Mitch at Planet5D was a complete dick move. People (and their opinions) are not pawns to be traded around for money. So I am all for constructive criticism on how we can make the forum grow again, be more interesting again and be financially viable. How can we get some of the members back we lost? Why are they not interested in posting here any more? Is the general topic of cameras and video in decline? And let's look to the positives of this place as well. What works best? How can we play to our strengths and be relevant? Over and out. Andrew1 point -
Canon R7 User Experience
FHDcrew reacted to herein2020 for a topic
Definitely all fair points, if image quality is #1 then yes, the R5 clearly wins in every category. But if you are shooting mainly for YT and social media, I think the R7 is more rounded (no time limit, no overheating, XLR audio, no expensive CFExpress required, supports RF, RF-S, EF, and EF-S lenses, decent 32MP photo resolution, auto leveling horizon, smaller body, better battery life, etc.). I always like to think about which camera would I prefer on a trip for travel video/photography and I would personally pick the R7 over the R5. With the R5 I see it mainly for me as a replacement for the 5DIV so mostly photos only. I have shot a few video clips with it as a b cam to the C70 and they looked great, but the overheat warning came on after just 30min of shooting a mixture of photos and videos with ambient temps around 98F. That little warning totally ruined the experience for me; admittedly this was right before the new FW came out that lets you raise the temp limit so I will need to see if that's an improvement.1 point -

As R5 user I m disagree on that! R5 Have better photo quality, oversampled 4k60p option (non on r7) and 4k120p which have way better quality than 1080p120. Rolling shutter is also less too. Overheating is a history with v1.6 firmware. But that time limit is a bummer for long session recording options.1 point -
Panasonic GH6
Robb reacted to hyalinejim for a topic
Take this with a pinch of salt but the GH6 won Best Photo/Video Camera at the 40th anniversary EISA-who-I've-never-heard-of-awards https://eisa.eu/awards/panasonic-lumix-dc-gh6/ I've used it on a few jobs now and I do like the camera. I still miss the 1080 2x crop but find the battery life OK. I have a power bank on the way and plan to charge batteries in my bag as they die. I do love the red box when recording, punch in while recording and generally tidier onscreen graphics. It's a good video camera.1 point -
I have to say that the two images are so completely different in terms of composition and light thats its difficult to make any comparison between them. In lieu of not having a focus calibration tool, the keyboard on the desk if placed next to the coffee machine could act as an OK substitute if you place it like this crude representation. This way there will be evenly spaced and legible markers in front of and behind the focus point to compare between images. By the way, I do note from the EXIF of the A7iv file though that it appears to think the stabilisation is on ?1 point

Sony A7 IV official topic
hyalinejim reacted to BTM_Pix for a topic
I've pulled out the switch section in each comparison to show that the focus point is slightly different within each test. In some it favours the A7 and in others the A7iv in terms of appearing sharper but at the actual focus point for each camera within each comparison image they are both much of a muchness. If you take the MD one for example, the switch is sharper on the A7 because the focus point is on that whereas with the A7iv it looks softer but if you then compare the rim of the jug in each you'll see that it is reversed as that is the focus point for the A7iv.1 point -
SIGMA FP with ProRes RAW and BRAW !
The Dancing Babamef reacted to OleB for a topic
That small project of mine is really interesting for me. Trying to match Barry Lyndon is extremely difficult. The fp is too clean even in ISO 3200 compared to the original footage. Next thing I have noticed is how soft the image is due to the 0.7 lens they have used. Nothing I could replicate with my 50mm 2.1. So am now trying to get closer with added film grain, blur and some sort of focus effect.1 point -

I think, for its price, the R7 is a very compelling camera for a lot of people. I think people arguing that the price is too high are being a bit silly. Given it's capabilities I think the price is fair, even if Canon keeps doing Canon things (🔨). The rolling shutter is a deal breaker for me, as I film fast action sports, and hearing inconsistent results about overheating would make me nervous to use for a lot of my work, but I think it's very good for a lot of people's needs, especially if you're not filming any fast movement. The crops and stuff are definitely a bummer, but they're limitations that are relatively easy to work around.1 point -

FHDcrew reacted to herein2020 for a topic
I think the RF 16mm would make a great gimbal lens for both the C70 and the R7, but I already have the Canon EF 25mm F2.8 and the Canon speedbooster I have bolted to the C70, so even one RF lens in that mixture would throw everything off for me. Also, the EF 25mm with a speedbooster would turn into a F2.0 vs the RF at F2.8, not much of a difference but still a small benefit. Buying new lenses is very painful for me, I already have every EF lens I need for every job I have shot for the past 10yrs, so not having to start over with new lenses is the main thing I like about sticking with Canon's mirrorless. I'm no fan of adapters; but gaining a stop of light and turning crop sensors back into full frame with the minimal investment of a speedbooster kind of makes it not so bad to me. If they do release an R7C I think it would just be the same sensor, a better cooling system, full sensor 7K and internal compressed RAW to the SD cards similar to the C70. More than likely the compressed raw option would be 4K30FPS only to further differentiate it from the more expensive models and more than likely the camera can't write data at the V90 rate anyway so 60FPS wouldn't be possible without other internal component changes. Putting the DGO sensor in the R7 would take too much of a redesign and eat into the sales of the C70 not to mention it would push the price past the R6. I think for its price point it performs pretty well, I still need to test its gimbal performance, that will be a big disappointment if the IBIS wobble makes it unusable for gimbal work.1 point -
SIGMA FP with ProRes RAW and BRAW !
FHDcrew reacted to Llaasseerr for a topic
I do think that there are times RAW Convertor (sp?) can be inaccurate, so it may be worth trying a demo and comparing to a Prores 4444 log export for accuracy. As far as grading experience and flexibility, there's no real difference between Prores Raw and DNG. Overall, if you export to Prores 4444 log, you will have the same experience as grading linear raw. You can get the same temperature, exposure and white balance controls with Resolve as the raw controls as long as you're correctly applying them.1 point -

As I mentioned above, the R7 is no C70, and the DGO sensor is THE THING in Canonland right now. I also said that with a similar sensor, the R7C (let's call it that), would be a 2.990-3.190$/€/£ machine, and that's that. The rolling shutter has been measured to something around 29ms if I remember right, which is almost double the GH6 number. It doesn't surprise me that a hybrid 1.650€ camera is not as good at video as a 5.950€ specialized video tool. @herein2020 maybe the RF 16mm would be a suitable gimbal lens? Small/super light/cheap/no need for an adapter and a good focal length (25.6mm equiv.) for gimbal work (at least for me, you maybe want more wide).1 point -
I must say I love this little camera. Especially since the LUTs are now workable. Have attached you a couple of pictures, am currently recreating a scene together with my wife and child. Guess some of you will recognize the movie? 🙂 Lit by candles only. Lens used DZO Vespid 50mm at T2.1 and fp set to ISO 3200. Once it is ready I will post a link here as well so that you can judge the image quality. But do not expect great acting, we are both not even bad actors, more like no actors at all. 😄1 point

hansel reacted to herein2020 for a topic
@Andrew Reid I have been a member of many forums over the years and really hope this one doesn't end, IMO it is the last place on the Internet where someone can still go to have deep technical discussions about all things video production related. So, I do hope you make the decision to keep the forum running, and my contribution to what I think will help it do so is below: Remove the Edit Post time limit - This is my only technical complaint with this forum, no other forum I have ever been a member of has this. I know awhile back you had a problem with spammers editing some posts after posting, but I am not sure this was the right answer. Maybe you could do like some forums, after a member has reached a certain level of posts then the limit is removed or at least raised to 24hrs. Many times I will find a typo in my post or want to write some more after reading it and there is no way to edit it. So either I just skip it (usually) or write it in a follow up post (looks like I am overposting to me). Cater to Photography as Well - I know this forum is micro-focused on video production, but these days many of us myself included is a hybrid shooter. I rarely post anything photography related here simply because it caters so heavily towards video. The reality is though, most of the cameras we talk about on here also have great photography features. I think you would attract new members if you also started covering more depth in the photography area. Maybe not you personally but making the forum more attractive for photographers somehow. I think Fred Miranda is the last really deep photography site out there. Also, it is so much more work to produce a good video that you know will immediately get picked to pieces by other forum members 🤣 vs taking a good photography image and talking about the technicals behind it. Members love showing their work, having a gallery where we could post photography as well would definitely increase the forum's appeal in my opinion. That gallery could also let members vote on their photo pick of the week or something like that. Sub Forums - I know you just got rid of them and this will probably be an unpopular recommendation here, but when I look at every successful forum that I have contributed to (Fred Miranda, AutelPilots, CanonRumors, DodgeDurango.net), they all have one thing in common; they force you to pick a sub forum. I know many subforums is where things go to die, but that's because most forums have too many sub forums. A few big parent forums would organize things better than many sub forums. For Example, parent forums could be (Photography Talk, Video Talk, Drone Talk, Gear Reviews, Classifieds, Editing / How To, Show and Tell). Those are just examples. AutelPilots is very well laid out and has a lot of interaction in the subforums mainly because new posts in the sub forums are surfaced in the latest threads section helping everyone find new posts regardless of subforum. Advertising - I know you need revenue, and I know everyone dislikes ads, but I would rather the site have ads then get removed. I am not sure how ads work, maybe you could be selective with who can advertise on your site, but I know the site has to generate revenue as well. Most of the forums if not all of the ones that I listed have ads and the members still come. Classifieds - I don't know if your classifieds section currently charges to post something for sale, but I know Fred Miranda's site does. Its a very nominal fee ($5 I think) but its still better than nothing. Obviously that comes with its own headaches (scammers never sleep), but I would trust buying or selling to a well known member here than eBay any day. If you already charge for classifieds then you can ignore this suggestion. Educational - This forum has vast breadth and depth of knowledge when it comes to video and probably photography as well. But very few educational posts are made, probably because YouTube already has literally everything you could ever want to know. But I think an educational section here would be very helpful. The problem with YouTube is most of the time the viewers ask follow up questions that don't get answered in the comments. I am a member of AutelPilots and my instructional posts get more interaction than any other posts that I make there. People always want to learn something new, and I feel like at the moment this isn't the site people go to to do that. Gear Review - I think every member here watches gear review videos. We all know most of the YT reviewers are heavily biased and most of them don't actually use the equipment to make a living; but, there are a few very good ones that I do watch. MonkeyPixels, Gerald Undone, and a few others I do value their opinions. Since it would not be cost effective and redundant for you to try to match the "professional" gear reviewers on YT, maybe you could curate instead....find the one single best review that you consider the most thorough and accurate and post that one video here, where members can discuss it in greater depth; also where you can provide your own deep insight into what you thought of the review and the gear being reviewed. Social Media - We all hate it but we all use it in some way, I use it just as an alternate gallery posting location to show my past video and photography work and also because my clients typically go there to reshare their content from my social media to theirs. I know you hate it as well, but I think you could use it to your advantage without it becoming and bottomless endless waste of time. On my website I use software so that everytime I post a blog post on my website it automatically posts on all of the social media platforms as well. Maybe something like that would reach more people and attract new members. Other Forums - I am pretty sure you have already done this, but I think a review of other top forums might also give you more ideas on what it takes to get members these days. The most successful forums that I see are usually the ones where members turn to when they need help or want to learn something from someone else that will most likely have an answer (i.e. DodgeDurango.net is the biggest forum for Dodge Durango owners and where nearly everyone goes when they want an answer to their specific problem). AutelPilots is very specific for Autel Drones and they get tons of new members every time a drone is released by people trying to learn everything they can about Autel drones. Learning and education IMO are the biggest and best performing categories on YT and rank the highest on Google searches but I don't feel like this site currently caters to that category. Show and Tell - I mentioned a photography gallery previously, but maybe a video one as well. I always hesitate to post my content here because it could be considered spamming or self promotion, but if you had a section where members could post their work and answer any questions other members had about how it was created, the gear that was used, the technicals behind it, how it was edited, etc...that would be great. Obviously you would need to keep spammers out, so maybe the gallery sections could be read only until a member reached a certain posting level (similar to Fred Miranda). Pinned Posts - I don't think they are a bad thing, I do think they shouldn't be more than 3 or 5. This is where subforums would help as well. Great information can get buried in this forum, pinning 3 or 5 posts of what you consider the top post or most relevant information at the time in the sub forums could be conversation starters, could be instructions for newcomers, could just be very useful information that might answer a question for new users visiting the subforum. Metatags - Not sure if members here would use them, but metatags really help with searching posts. It can be hard to find information on any forum, but if you allowed for a metatag field (just like metataging photos), it could make searches easier if members used them. Instead of having to type them, they could be easily clickable right before you post. Here is where I could rant about the current state of things where no one wants to read more than 180 characters, everyone is just using their cell phones so things are in a state of decline, people don't want to read, or type anymore and just want a YT video that spoon feeds them, etc. etc, but its all been said before. Those are definitely all uphill challenges and they won't get any easier but here's to hoping this site can overcome them. As other sites fold up or go under, maybe that in the end would be a good thing for this site as those members look elsewhere for an outlet. I think at the end of the day this site has currently narrowed down its focus to a very small niche of users (video content producers endlessly pursuing the absolute best image quality possible by all means necessary) which is a turn off to new members who might just want to know what that exposure triangle thingy is, or the short answer to how to get started in Davinci Resolve. Maybe your intent is to keep members like that off of this forum, but I think if you want to grow the forum you have to somehow find a way to balance what the general population is looking for with what the absolute purists are looking for as well.1 point -

Just a thought... It would be great to modify a smartphone so that it has only a sensor with no lens over it, and on the back cover a screw mount for C-mount lenses. Then it really would play in the same league as the Digital Bolex in RAW. It would need a lot of machining and new metal parts on the back to make it work and hope your OS doesn't notice that AF is missing! But not beyond the realms of possibility is it?1 point -

We have evolved into a dangerous form of media that's for sure. It's addictive, truth bending, ADHD and heavily sponsored. Thinking of starting PhoneRaw.com which will try and get people to take more artistic shots with smartphones and learn the whole workflow of raw, both for stills and video. If it is time up for traditional cameras (for me at least) then you have to know when to step aside and let the Geralds and Fros take over because you know then it is a bit of a lost cause and not what it was in 2014.1 point -

Speaking of attempts to bridge the gap... This definitely should have had more legs than it did! Lovely huge OLED screen. Full version of Android. SIM card slot. It was priced crazily high when it came out and photographers stuck their noses up at it because it didn't have a joystick. Normal people just couldn't afford it or justify it. But I reckon if they had kept this concept going and made a new slimmer mount than NX, with some nice lenses to go with it and full frame sensor, this would have been a long term winner from Samsung. That QX thing was definitely ahead of its time. I can see why nobody bought it though. Not good enough for enthusiasts. Not slim enough for consumers to pocket on a night out.1 point -
Panasonic announcing that they are now officially exiting the sub GH6 market completely is the official end of that era. Their rationale is that anyone wanting to take high quality photos and videos will now buy a €1200 smartphone. I'd sooner have a €1000 camera and a €200 phone but I'm not the market so I can see their point. They caused this themselves by still even now having terrible integration with phones when the writing has been on the wall for years about how people would make and share imagery.1 point

I don't think there is any phone that does Prores and Raw. The Apple iPhone 13 Pro does Prores at these rates. All iPhone 13 Pro’s ProRes are 10-bitt with 4:2:2 chroma subsampling.
