5DtoRGB Lite for Converting Video Footage?

The GH5 has been an iconic camera.. very close to a GH6 too. I think the point of that video is, when exposed and edited properly, you can get great results with any of them. I've purchased some of these old cameras (usually with a lens); then I sell the lens and get the camera for VERY cheap if not FREE or even make money in some cases. I like the challenge of doing great things with low-end gear rather than getting the most expensive gear with the expectation of fantastic results. That's just me, and I don't shoot professionally; so, there's that too.2 points

I’ve owned a number of those cameras (GH 1. NX1, BMCC 2.5k). I would say that the GH5 is a great low total cost of ownership camera. It’s 10bit with a decent bit rate for about $750 used. Maybe that’s more than people would consider cheap, but it is hack and hassle free with a broadcast quality image. So have we had access to great low cost icing images for a long time? Sure, but each had it’s challenges and flaws !2 points

Does anyone have a copy of 5DtoRGB to share?

Hey y'all. I'm the developer of 5DtoRGB. If you're wondering what happened, well, I stopped working on it a long time ago to concentrate on mobile apps. I removed it from the App Store because it needed a lot of bug fixes and I didn't feel right charging for an app that I knew wasn't going to live up to people's expectations. I still have all the code, and if there's enough interest I can take a look at it. I actually planned on releasing a major 5DtoRGB update a while ago that would have dramatically sped up transcoding, but never got it stable enough to release. Then our Rarevision VHS mobile app happened, and uhm, yeah. That took priority, obviously.2 points -
In May 2022, just over six months after her appointment as CEO, Estelle McGechie was fired from Atomos due to her being unwilling to re-locate to Australia. At the time, it seemed a bit odd because you would have thought that her appointment to that senior role would have been contingent on her re-location from the get go. According to a suit that she has now filed in the US, she claims that there was more to it than her relocation. A lot more. In addition to her claims about gender discrimination and a toxic corporate culture at Atomos, there are also allegations that there was 'rampant illegality' at the company with regards to shipping out 'dud' products to fraudulently inflate sales figures to meet projected targets. One example product mentioned in her filing is the CAST switcher add on for the Ninja V range which was shipped without any functioning firmware. The other product mentioned is the Neon grading monitor which shipped with know deficiencies that rendered it outside of the capabilities detailed in its marketing literature and packaging. The CAST product interests me because I've been surprised that for something that is such an appealing product (turns your Ninja V into an ATEM) there has been very little buzz about it since it was launched and comparatively few reviews on YouTube and certainly none from the past few month. Possibly now not as surprising as I'd originally felt. The share price of Atomos in the past twelve months certainly wouldn't have been bringing a nice warm glow to investors anyway, but this latest news has knocked it further. Needless to say, Atomos have refuted all of Estelle McGechie's allegations so it will be interesting to see how this pans out. I can agree; I use one on a daily basis. NLOG grades very easily using a Resolve color-managed workflow. Dynamic range is solid, nice highlight rolloff and you can overexpose the image to make things clean. I've been playing with the flat profile and it isn't too bad; definately worse than NLOG, but in Resolve I can do a CST to Arri Log C and then back to Rec709, to make the image behave more like LOG. And I can then raise the exposure while it applies a highlight rolloff, which in turn allows me to dig deeper into the shadows and fully utilize the Nikon FLAT dynamic range. Also with a cheap Ninja Star and the right HDMI settings, you get that 10 bit NLOG image in oversampled 1080p, full-frame with usuable AF.1 point

Former Atomos CEO Alleges ‘Rampant Illegality’ At The Company
The Dancing Babamef reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Pure speculation on my part but I could tell something might be off when I went to their IBC dinner in 2019. Extremely odd behaviour by Jeromy. Then of course the way he parted ways so suddenly after being the figurehead of the company for ages, all points to potentially quite serious stuff. I see she cited CineD in the lawsuit. Wonder if EOSHD will get any links as well 😆1 point -
Well it looks like Nikon are up for a fight over this. https://www.slashcam.de/news/single/Interne-RAW-Aufnahme--Nikon-haelt-RED-Patente-fuer-u-17452.html "Nikon disputes the validity of the RED patents, arguing that they were applied for too late at the time and should therefore not have been granted. Nikon points out that RED already offered a camera for pre-order at NAB 2006, in which the relevant codec technology was integrated, but it took more than a year before a patent application was filed. The patent, which was only registered after the fixed one-year period had expired, was wrongly granted from Nikon's point of view, since the patent office had no information that the technology had already been implemented and offered for advance sale" Seems they are going down the route of "the only thing we've violated in the Z9 is a patent that should never have been granted in the first place". Not to mention, of course, the defence of "how can we be violating a patent when we can't get our arse in gear sufficiently to actually deliver the fucking camera anyway". At this rate, RED could probably sue them for infringing their patent on painfully delayed availability of cameras after launch. Although, as I've said before, I do wonder whether the lawsuit and the tight availability are actually linked.1 point
