  1. I thought I'd resurrect this topic since I am still shooting on my trusty 5D3. Here's a frame from a web promo I shot last week...

  2. That's an interesting comparison - not one I'd contemplated before, but makes sense.

  3. Indeed! : ) And it's lovely! < 3 Who needs a new camera? We only need (this or equivalent) talent : ) nothing else.

  4. I recently acquired a Canon TV16 6mm fixed focus lens. i "challenged" myself filming without a monitor, cuz i liked the supertinyness of my bmmcc without a monitor. I later recognized, it vignettes up to 1.33x zooming in on davinci in that case. But footage was fun and cool.:) @hansel I'm in Berlin too. Let's film some cinema verité vignettes together with cam and coffee. Sony Pmw f3, bmmcc and nice nerdy gadgets at hand.:)

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, it would just be nice to have more than one or two comments in a row in a Panny thread that didn't talk about AF. It's like in the entire world of film-making that nothing else exists. It makes it so that nothing else can be discussed, doesn't add anything new to the discussion and just wastes everyones time.

Ditto, the perception of their AF, particularly on social media, especially YouTube. There are ‘Why I switched to Panny’ posts for sure, but for every one and every positive comment, there are 9 negatives and those 9 negatives based on limited or zero use, ie, most just repeating a myth/perception. The reality is in most situations for my use case it’s more than good enough, but the fact remains it is the weakest (by far) of the main manufacturers who produce ‘hybrid’ cameras, principally; Fuji, Nikon, Canon and Sony. They do not need to do too much to retain my business as my move to Nikon is not yet a done deal. As things stand, there is nothing else available that can equal my 3 body/4 lens planned Nikon future… …unless Panny can spring something soon that ticks the same boxes. Unlike Kye’s opinion, I don’t think there is anything wrong with wishing for better things from a system you are heavily invested in but everyone is entitled to an opinion! I’m also a fan of the underdog and the unorthodox. Part of my attraction to Fuji and for the decade I used them was because they were the underdog that overachieved. I would not invest in a system just because they were the underdog, - I still have certain requirements that have to be checked off and one reason I did not go down the Sigma FP/L route, - just a few too many dealbreakers and even a single one is enough to say no. But L Mount as a whole has now reached a point…or rather I have reached a conclusion, does so many things so well, but it turns out has a couple of chinks in it’s armour I have not been able to overcome. AF is not actually one of those chinks. At least not at dealbreaker level. For me. It’s turned out to be the 1.5x crop for 4K 50p and recording limits on the S1R’s. There’s still a chance for me with L Mount but they need to come up with ‘my’ spec camera really soon or I cannot see any other future than the one I am currently headed for.

  7. I had one shortly but I fried it using a bad dummy battery to D-tap cable. I wasn't going to buy one again but I recently had the need for a small gimbal camera so once again I purchased the FP. This one has the tilt screen mode as well as a custom made SSD module, which makes it a super compact setup. Using the FP one of my big complaints was the lack of a tilt screen, so this new setup will address that as well as managing the somewhat awkward T5 ssd setup I had before. Dual ISO is very helpful, the color from the FP looks really nice after running it through resolve. It would definitely be nice if there was a way to color manage the dng footage in premiere. But hey it's a really inexpensive camera so I can't complain too much.

Yeah but the BGH1 was so bare bones compared the FX6 imho. I am just speculating here based on my own thoughts though. I never use auto focus so it doesn't at all matter to me. If the S1 had raw internal like the FP I would have held onto it.

  9. Thanks Emmanuel, click the image and you'll see a more accurate representation of the final image. It's for the 11th Hour Audio Challenge. It's a 30 day challenge to produce an audio drama in honor of World Audio Drama Day. It's run by a couple friends of mine and the actor came up with a cool concept, so we shot it very quickly last week. It was fun, I got to use a fog machine and shoot day for night. I keep saying the FP will be my next camera. How do you like it? I agree they're similar in some ways. But like BTM said, the FP could be the true successor of the OG Pocket.

  10. interesting, who was the promo for? I have been tempted several times to the 5D MK3, just got a sigma FP tho. I feel like they are similar cameras.

  12. Does the M1 handle AVCHD footage decently as well? If so, shouldn't you skip the transcoding?

I should add, that even now I have been making arguments to stick with L Mount at least until a point where I am forced into making a decision. The problem is that with nothing but rumors and speculation regarding the future of L Mount, there is nothing to base any decision on other than ‘if’. I have often thought manufacturers shoot themselves in the foot by being so Secret Squirrel about their plans…

  14. There is a forum called "Sailing Anarchy" and it is great. It is very free speech orientated. Dummies are put in their place by anyone coming along knowing better but mostly in a fun way. New members need to show their GFs tits (running gag) bevor getting replies to their first post, etc.. ..One way the Forum is sponsored is, Industry can buy a thread or subforum. E.g. black magic can talk directly to users here. Small rig for all things rigging etc. Anamorphics have had a boom, no?... This does not mean that one can't have an open opinion about things also in the same thread. For me camera wise the interest about specs have come to an end. Most of them have leveled to a, good enough point. So I guess no one is interested in hacking a t2i or something. There is still some nitty gritty bit that is interesting, How to make the files excell, grading etc... how to shoot, sound ( @IronFilm) I really do miss you videos like NX1 in Lisbon, etc. It would be nice to get at least two a year done. It also starts discussion; What lenses did you use, camera, technique. I am in Berlin, let me know if you need a BTS Goon or something. For me I have a business to run so I am mainly a lurker and only pick up the camera for jobs anymore. On holyday I shoot film. What you could need is younger film students, they have time to experiment. What are they shooting with? How can you help them? Cinema history knowledge, vintage gear etc... why is it relevant? I liked your YT videos, is there a niche for you, just on the side? And finally, this is your house so you can behave yourself how you what to, but then there is also Gastfreundschaft. People like Webrunner ( and so many more which have left) seem to have been meaning mostly good and some of them even had great content and knowledge to share. Maybe it is better to PM them if you get pissed off with them, as nobody likes to get assraped in front of the forum mates. Lots of love and I hope all your ideas florish to great things, Best, Hansel

  15. Honestly the more I use this camera the more I love it. After filming a couple events I'm really impressed. I am considering selling my entire M43 kit, or at least most of it, to get another one. I'll maybe keep the GH5 and the 12-35mm and 35-100mm, and sell the rest. I really like the sooc colors I get using the natural profile. Sometimes I will tweak it just a little, but most of the time it looks really good without any kind of corrections. I'm glad that more people are taking note of the S5. I really don't know that you can beat it for the price.

  16. @Andrew Reid Here's the reason number one why this forum is priceless as unique place it is... : ) The quality of content -- camera solutions related, posted here. No need for much ; ) just keep going such editorial philosophy :- )

  17. One of my favorite things this forum has done is the video contest from a few years back. It was nice to SEE what people were capable of, even when using cheap cameras. So much of this forum is people talking about specs.

  18. The patent is about as dumb as one that says you are not allowed to sing in the key of C. Just crazy stuff.

  19. Y'all left out the part where I said what the patent's definition of "visually lossless" is. It's not an Imatest or anything of the sort. The fact of the matter is, Red RAW is NOT lossless. Again, if it were, you wouldn't have different compression options. Lossless is lossless, there would only be one compression ratio. It is lossy RAW but "lossless" because the average person can't see a difference.

  20. Red has just been a shit about the patent. They in this day and age could have ignored enforcing it through the legal channels and at least just have licensed it. But no, they have to curtail everyone who even wants to advance raw and bust everyone's balls over it. That shows me they are either evil as shit or SUPER concerned their product is really not that special, probably both apply.

  21. Posted this in the wrong thread yesterday, me silly.:) So here again where it belongs: The evfs for photocameras like the lumix gx1 and oly pens were tiny. It would be awesome if someone did a mod to them so they could be hooked up to the bmmcc via hdmi. I'd still like to know what evf Cesar Charlone was using here with a SI-2K. Looking very slim.

  22. 5DMK3 Raw 3k upscaled to 4k. The first shots are filmed in a mirror's reflection so they are not as sharp. I really hope the C200's raw is similar to this.

  23. Finally managed to get my head around processing crop_rec material, so did a small test at around 2.7K mastered in 3.4K Anamorphic Setup: 5D3 Helios 44M Bolex-Anamorphot 32/16/1.5x Graded using @hyalinejim Kodak Ektar 100D TWISTED lut (Thanks!!).
