Some sad personal news, and a note on the future
newfoundmass reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Thanks for your message mate. And your email @newfoundmass and @Snowfun - wonderful. If I don't get back or reply much in coming days, sorry in advance for that. To all those with families affected by cancer, we will one day avenge it and eradicate it. And if it helps play our part to do a sponsored camera challenge for a cancer charity, could be something to look into for EOSHD this winter, if I can pick myself up and get back to work.1 point -
No, just the 70d sadly. Well, M50 does it but that’s a very rough ML build with barely anything functional.1 point

I love my Panasonics but I’m on a shoot now where Sony AF would really help. I hope this camera makes then release a S5h/mk2 with stellar AF and no crop in 4K 50p. As far as I’m concerned they have until spring to convince me to stick with them. Otherwise I’d probably sell the lot and get the FX30 x2 and a A7C for photos.1 point

Like it or not auto focus is likely to beat out almost any other feature. Being able to easily match to Sony cine/pro cameras is a big plus though.1 point

Fuji X-H2S
solovetski reacted to Django for a topic
The XH2/XH2S obliterate the FX30 when it comes to specs. Fuji don't have a cine line to protect and it shows. As a hybrid the FX30 plain sucks: no EVF, no mechanical shutter, no drive mode, no stills/video switch. The one aspect where FX30 out-beats Fuji will be AF. And custom LUT support. I guess the FX30 form factor with mount holes, active cooling and the included top handle with XLRs can't be neglected either. I'm really torn as the XH2S is so much more exciting to me but as an FS7 user already invested in Sony glass, the FX30 makes much more sense as a B-cam. But god is it boring, dare I say uninspiring.1 point -
A7IV overheats in 4K60p though. Also has a whopping 26.8ms RS vs 15ms on FX30. FX3/FX30 are entry cine line cameras. Now with Cine EI & LUT import they do feel a little bit more worthy of FX range. As an FS7 user, this would be the perfect B-cam for me. That said, yeah strictly nothing exciting about it. Another utilitarian Sony camera.1 point

The Thread for Good Deals and Discounts

Bumping this thread because this one got me too. Adorama back at it with some randomly cheap Nikon F glass. Sigma art 28mm 1.4 Nikon F mount for $399 https://www.adorama.com/sg2814nk.html1 point -
Solution: move to New Zealand! (or anywhere really in the Southern Hemisphere) Great setup! If only the FX30 had eND, then I'd love that with a Tamron 17-701 point

And hopefully, by the Grace of God, or whatever you believe in, your sister will pull through. As they say... stranger things... Again, good luck!1 point -

I've learned over the past 10 years that with every passing, I've lost a part of myself, never to be the same. Some pass through your life, but still walk the earth... others pass on. Both are difficult but you learn something from the loss. It doesn't fill the void. Or dry the tears. But it comforts you. So take something from this loss. Don't let death, especially from fucking cancer, steal something from you... You'll be honoring your sister's life and her impact on yours. Good luck.1 point -

We always underestimate our ability to handle pain of losing someone. Never say "I can't". Time will be your ally in this fight.1 point -

Take care Andrew. Let the family’s love carry you all through this.1 point -
Lucky the camera industry is not French… The cameras would have a styling circa 1950’s (not necessarily a bad thing) but would randomly go on strike, the manual could only be provided as a (thick) paper document (and you would have to apply in person 2 hours from your home and wait at least 6 weeks for it to arrive) plus would have a permanent whiff of garlic/gauloises in the hard bakerlite shell. And only shoot B&W. All models would be called ‘Le De Gaulle’ and we would currently be on the LDG7, the 7th model since the first as new models are released with marginal ‘upgrades’ every decade.1 point

Some sad personal news, and a note on the future
Ann Watson reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
To all my friends at EOSHD I have some very sad news. My sister has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. She is just 38. I have just brought the news to the main blog page here, for the full story: https://www.eoshd.com/news/my-sister-zara-reid-is-in-end-of-life-care-for-cancer/ I might need to rely on my friends here to get me through this very difficult time and keep working. Anyone who pre-orders my Panasonic GH6 Shooter's Guide will really be helping. I am in financial difficulties too, on top of this. I want to keep this blog going even though I am a wreak at the moment. I am going to miss my sister enormously. She was at the heart of my family. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you wish to pass a message of support onto myself, Zara or my mum. My email address is eoshd.com@gmail.com In the future my aim is to get back to work and carry on EOSHD. Sorry it has been so quiet of late. Thanks guys.0 points
