  1. Using color space transform and the ARRI lut gets them to match contrast wise. The color still looks vastly different. I feel they look quite close after adjusting WB/tint around, but my color blind eyes aren't a great judge. I use 100 iso to see my highlights and then push from there between 400-800 to see what I have in the shadows. I used this method on the last feature I did and was happy with the results. 640 iso does looks underexposed after changing the color space. However after boosting the exposure to match both cameras it actually seems similar to the Alexa in terms of noise performance. So in that sense it actually works out. I could have lit it bright and got a cleaner image but I wanted to see both cameras in a dim situation. The Sigma FP could have been cleaner if I bumped it up to 3200 iso but I wanted to see them at the same ISO.

Seems an irresistible tool easy to fall in love, well, I can't wait to put my hands on these small handy beasts when street photography comes like that:

You're right, it is. I probably should have gone that route before I got a $200+ V90 card. It's nice having 8bit raw internally but only 20 minutes of record time always makes me nervous, haha. Yes, you can get multiple enclosures and they have different colors too. Different style racks too, one a bit bigger with a cold shoe on top, another made to use with the Sigma evf. All use the same enclosures though.

It's definitely the more expensive option all said and done.. Rack plus m.2 enclosure was $128, shipping was $49, and the sabrent 1TB drive was $130.

I've gone through a lot of experimentation with my fp L to find the right configurations. It's actually been one of the biggest things I enjoy with the camera is just finding new setups for different use cases. I don't really like rigs or things with cables everywhere so here is my cleanest setup with a samsung T5. I can screw in a rod extension with a coldshoe for mic/top handle when needed. I recently picked up the DPL ssd rack and thumbgrip and it is even smaller and lighter. I recommend it if you want to go a small as possible.

Today I decided to just rubber band the drive to the top of the camera... definitely not ideal but better than the L-Bracket I was using. I must admit... it's a damn nice image. I love shooting at dusk at 3200 ISO with a VND...

  7. Hey, everybody, I've been researching different anamorphic options for a project and while I really love my SLR Magic 2X and Rangefinder combo setup, I can't really use that on my Rokinon Cine DS lenses or other lens options I'm looking at which are simply too large for a 62mm thread adapter. Going with some of the indie anamorphics like Sirui and Great Joy could be an option if more of the lines are available by the time we get ready to film but I have some ideas for certain special optics so I looked at the adapters landscape of 2022. Out of all of them which are typically 1.33x or 1.5x, the closest alternative to my SLR Magic 2x seems to be the Letus Anamorphx 1.8x Pro. Looking around online I can't really get much of a consistent use case example from the lens and even the 2021 indie film "First Date" didn't seem to use the lens to its best abilities. There are reviews of the 1.33x and 1.33x Pro which kind of give an idea of what to look for but even with that, I have no idea how the 1.8x Pro compares or even if it might be inferior to the 1.33x Pro. So, does anybody have any experience with the 1.8x Pro Anamorphx? Anyone using a different flare model than the usual medium flare style? Any help or advice would be appreciated!

  9. I've seen this a lot on camera comparisons. Two images look like they have a different WB, but when you compare them the neutral greys are both neutral but there will be different tints with the highlights/shadows or on hues that are beyond a certain level of saturation. It makes looking and comparing images very confusing - they look different but sensible adjustments don't seem to be effective in making them match. The good thing with the FP is (I assume) you can CST back to a neutral point and then apply whatever colour science you want, side-stepping any oddities from a particular colour science or other.

Already posted earlier by @Django My bad I hadn't checked this thread before, nice work guys, looks like a little gem, love the colour SOOC BTW and fairly improved this time (where's that SONY look? : D) IMO :- )

  11. Hey whatever works best for you. R5C vs C100 is an uneven comp on so many levels. That said I maintain that to get all day battery life, NDs and XLRs on R5C, you're looking at a rig and investment far away from what the C100 gives you from the get go.. and no I'm not going back there either but for under $800 if you're ok shooting FHD, still a fantastic option imo..

  12. No go right ahead The white balance was set the same on both cameras but yes they are a lot different in how they interpret it. The exposure looks a lot the same in REC709 but when switched to a log profile it looks a lot darker on the FP. Feel free to share stills of your grades!!

  13. Sure you can rig up any cam, but you've also got to factor in the added cost. An R5C + ND adapter + Tascam is already a whopping 6K€. As a strictly all-in one cine body C100 is a pretty compact (and affordable) considering its a decade old! The R5C, FX3, FX30 are really a new kind of compact hybrid mirrorless camera though. I like FX3/FX30 fairly better concerning form factor as they are more compact, have mounting options, a native top handle and XLR as well as IBIS equipped and decent battery life: VS For all day battery life though you are also going to need a big source of external power for R5C (imo its biggest con) adding on to weight and bulk. And pretty quickly you're in a situation that makes 1DX3 feel light and tiny..

  14. I haven't proven any point other than it is all relative to what camera you are comparing with. You choose to call it "huge" compared to your GH5 or a Gopro. I am indeed saying it is small compared to most cinema cameras but also action sport mirrorless or a rigged up Z6/R6/A7 with external monitor. I'll stay it again, the C100 is small considering it has: built-in NDs, an EVF, large display, fan system, all-day battery, XLRs. It's like the Pocket 6K Pro. The term "pocket" is really relative but makes sense if you compare it to an ARRI.

  15. Sony's breathing compensation, at least for now, only works with some of their more expensive G and G Master lenses–no third party lens support as of yet. That could be a deal breaker for some.

Correct. Some folks ‘think’ they know, but like juggling chainsaws, it requires a bit of practice! Unless you look at it as holding/using a lens that just happens to have a small camera body attached to it! 🤔😬

As it happens, I took the velcro off the vf soon after writing that post and have a new roll on the way. But here's a couple photos using an elastic tie (and 28mm fd) so at least you can see the sizing. With the velcro, you can position the cable a little nicer though, as the ssd is more stable and secure.

I got one of those hotshoe phone holders, and put a T5 drive in it. But my favourite solution is velcro on the top of the LVF11, and on the T5. With a bit of cable management, you barely notice it's there. This setup with a 35mm 2.8 Canon FD lens is a lot of fun to shoot with. Add a pistol grip for even more points.

Is this a camera thing? Are there forums out there with carpenters spending this much time and effort arguing about why their Makita drill is better than the others DEWALT drill? Two post in a row! 🤯

Yeah, knocking it down it 8bit to record longer than 30min is not really an option for the work I do. Haven't used an 8 bit camera professionally for at least 5 years. Personally don't have an issue with it most of the time but my clients expect 10bit across the board, not just for some shots. Is the 30 minute 10bit limit due to overheating or just a cripple hammer move by Panasonic? Don't worry, YouTube 'Influencers' are the last people I listen to! Most of them don't even seem to shoot anything more than their own Youtube videos.

Along with the A7RV it also appears to have better SOOC colour. ”Define better?” In side by side comparisons, same lens, closest same settings etc, it looks better to my eye. Slightly less yellow than of recent (which itself replaced ‘greenish’), a fraction more muted and contrasty?

You'd take the Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 over the Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8? You don't ever need anything wider than 17mm? Do the Tokina / Viltrox / Sigma sets of fast f1.2/f1.4 primes for APS-C appeal to you? They're very affordable! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/products/Mirrorless-Camera-Lenses/ci/17912/N/4196380428?filters=fct_a_focus-type_5738%3Aautofocus%2Cfct_brand_name%3Atokina%2Cfct_lens-format-coverage_3332%3Aaps-c-lenses%2Cfct_lens-mount_3442%3Asony-e-mount%2Cfct_zooms-primes_5903%3Aprime-lenses https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1723065-REG/tokina_szmf33_fe_sz_33mm_f_1_2_mf.html (I'm guessing more are coming soon? Of course with a MFT level "crop" in 120fps UHD, that's no longer ultrawide, but it is still a nifty wide angle lens with a fast f2 aperture for very little money! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1714074-REG/meike_mk_1220cfmf_e_12mm_f_2_0_aps_c_manual.html (or go 2mm wider for more than double the cost! (I've got this lens myself) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1322738-REG/slr_magic_slr8m4_8mm_f_4_lens.html The image quality would be such a massive leap up for you from a FS700! Heck, even for me with the FS7, the FX30 would be an improvement. (well, in terms of picture, of course a move backwards in lots of other areas such as SDI/Genlock/NDs/EVF/etc) Exactly, people in the comments online I have seen hating upon the FX30 for its rolling shutter performance simply because the FX30 isn't the best ever possible they've seen, yet in reality vs the comparable competition then the FX30's rolling shutter performances holds up very well!

Adapt your MFT manual lenses to E Mount perhaps? Helped thanks to much greater resolution of the FX30 sensor vs the low resolution FX3 sensor. Another reason to get the FX30 vs the FX3: The FX30 has much better battery life than the FX3! Yup, people complain about that crop but just put a 7.5mm lens on it and you've got your wiiiiide angle sorted! It really isn't the big deal people make it out to be.
