This is hilarious. I intended this to be about how the C100/C300 codec holds up in 2022. We are talking about something SO DIFFERENT now2 points

Eye-AF should work ok, it does on my R6 with adapted EF lenses. The new Canon 709 is a modified version of the popular WideDR profile with better highlight curve and added contrast. Perfect for fast turnaround projects imo. ALL-I is nice when you want ultimate compressed quality, difference is noticeable in water scenes and motion. Bigger files for sure but easier to edit. I think its just nice to see updates with added new features. Not something Canon is known for. I'm assuming the FX30 and its aggressive price point is probably prompting Canon to do so. Competition is good for us customers. C70 keeps getting better! They should put out a C50 in a R6/R7 body with full C70 video features under $3K.2 points

How does a C100 Mark II or C300 OG hold up against modern 10 bit codecs
BenEricson reacted to Kisaha for a topic
As I said before, it is a "fast turn around" camera, with a weak codec, but that's the beauty of it, the simplicity. Stick an 18-135 or an 24-105 and shoot all day..it was a workhorse camera of the "plain" professional. Ready on its bag, ready to shoot in 7 seconds and for a full working day If you take care of the basics, the camera does the rest of the magic mixing and produces an image that punches much above its weight. I am still waiting for a similar workhorse camera. Just put some modern internals on the same body Canon, that's so easy.. I wish they C70 was that camera, but unfortunately it doesn't feel the same.1 point -

Amongst the plethora of "Is xyz camera still worth it in 2022?" with shocked thumbnail videos on YouTube, there are a fair few with the C100 and C300 in them. This is an interesting example of one comparing it against the known modernish entity of the P4K.1 point -

For that stuff I'll happily use a FS5! Shooting a convention tomorrow with my F3 & FS7, would also be happy with 2x FS5 instead in the context of this particular type of shoot.1 point -
Linear, with widescreen (2:35:1) aspect ratio:1 point

I still use my NX1 with the 16-50mm S and 45mm f/1.8, the colors and character of the 45mm f/1.8 ... Oh my god.1 point

I'm not saying C100 is the most compact or discrete camera out there. I'm just saying compared to a rigged up mirrorless offering similar run & gun options its quite comparable, more balanced, all-in-one alternative. And yeah C100 SOOC look using Wide DR has a special mojo. Canon had some kind of special sauce back then, the internal processing was 444. Speaking of it kinda makes me miss it to be honest !1 point

How does a C100 Mark II or C300 OG hold up against modern 10 bit codecs

@kyedoes a lot of travel so I can definitely see how a GH5 with vari ND and a small lens is a better setup for that usage. You could probably pocket that if you have the right Jacket where as you'll never be able to pocket a C100. Also for situations where you want to film and not be noticed a GH5 or other camera just looks more like you are doing casual photography. C100 not as much. But if you rig out a DSLR it stops looking like a stills camera and you stop looking like a hobbyist. I did a video using the ARRI Alexa, C100, and GH5. The C100 was my favorite out of the box look. It was a lower dynamic range scene but the colors were just really pretty.1 point -

I guess I can see why some people might feel like the C100 is too big, if they've primarily shot with mirrorless cameras, but it is, in my opinion, the perfect size and was very comfortable to hold. I would trade the mirrorless camera ergonomics for that kind of body any day.1 point -
Practice practice practice and a lot of dead ends! Year 1, 100% photo + 10% video Year 2, 100% photo + 20% video Year 5, 100% photo + 50% video Year 10, 100% photo + 100% video It’s been like learning to juggle. I started with just 2 balls, added another each year, dropped them more times than I’d care to remember but otherwise dedication. Plus the tech these days is better than it was 10+ years ago. I’m always amazed that MORE are NOT doing it, but as long as it is not the norm, good for me and my business!1 point

OK so once again armchair expertise. You tend to make a lot of strong assumptions and present opinions as facts on subjects you really have zero experience with. Googling photos, watching a video on YT.. then arguing online against people with actual hands-on experience on the subject matter. Its a recurring theme I've noticed.. Again you lumped the C100 & C300 in the same category. Anybody that has used those two cams knows they are day & night in form factor, weight, operation despite them looking similar on internet pictures. As for context, OP uses a Z6 plus an Atomos. Fully rigged that's already bulkier and heavier than a stripped down C100. To use your analogy its more like a sedan.. with a camping trailer attached to its rear! ..and again the C100 has built-in NDs, fan, all day battery life, WFM assist tools etc. even when stripped down. Rigging the equivalent on a large sensor mirrorless will not be smaller or lighter, hence my point withstands.1 point

Size and...err, that's it. Other than provide espresso on tap (and it's size), agreed, - ticks every box for me. Every. Yes. I have considered every single possible camera and lens combo available. Z9 kills it in 3 areas for me and the only area the R3 (for me) beats Z9 is weight.1 point

A7RV announced
hansel reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
The A7 IV at £2.5k and A1 at £6K? In that gap there's the A7S III and the FX3. Not sure there is much of a market for the A7R IV, as those who can afford it are more likely to go for one of the above cameras or spend a bit extra for the A1 if they need 8K and high res stills? What puts you off the Z9? It seems like there's not much it can't do. Have you considered EOS R3?1 point -
Bridges the gap between the IV and the A1 I suppose? Not too bothered about the price to be honest. For me it’s whether it can do the job I want it to do. For instance I have been considering the Z9 and the new Hassie (in different scenario combos) and those are +50% and +100% respectively, but ultimately it’s not the cost that puts me off but other factors. I’m just not prepared to buy another camera or system unless it’s near zero compromise and though cost is a factor, it’s nowhere near the top of my list. Not that I am made of money either!1 point

Sorry @Rhood haven't try them on a job yet, just received them! I have serious problems doing sound with all these various Nanlights. Good output, for sure, but very noisy cooling systems..0 points
