probably some of the nicest lenses to use for video on mft. what might also be interesting is that i had the chance to compare them to Zeiss CP2s. while i dont want to take away the advantages of the zeiss (PL/swappable mount, the majority of the set covers FF, some lenses are faster), they really dont look better than the meikes. the general look is very similar, but the zeiss set has more unpleasant aberrations wide open when pointed towards a light source. the focus breathing is way more apparent on the CP2s as well (cropped to mft, on FF theyre almost unusable due to the breathing imo). pretty crazy for a set thats easily about 1/10th the price.

Online stores have essentially become like auctions. Computer sees what all customers and competing online stores are doing in real time and adjusts it's price according to fancy algorithms trying to maximize profits. Most shops have the decency to only adjust prices during the night but Amazon and decency... In physical stores they are gradually switching over to digital price tags. It is only a matter of time until these start to adjust automatically as well during the day if local laws will allow for it. If only it was legal to set the price based on user profile data...

  3. I just wanted to share some footage I captured recently to demonstrate the quality one can get with a used Nikon Z6 and an Atomos Ninja Star. Oversampled 1080p, 10 bit prores, nice log curve with good color and solid DR, and a really good grading workflow in Davinci Resolve. A few shots were with the internal FLAT picture profile but the majority of the shots were in NLOG. This camera combo is really awesome for the price, and the Ninja Star keeps things light and compact! Also useable autofocus, full frame IQ, for pretty cheap!

Well, if Sony is what you're looking for, just buy that and move on. Why would you be so insistent on a GH6 if all is good on the Sony?

  5. Mine does not do that with digital IS on or off in XFAVC or RAW. I would open a ticket with Canon. Are you using native lenses, lens adapters, speedbooster, lens with IS? After seeing your video I tested my C70 on a tripod with the Canon speedbooster, Sigma EF mount 50mm F1.8 and with digital IS on and off. I also tested it in XFAVC and then switched to Cinema Raw LT......there was absolutely no movement in the image. If you are using a lens with IS I would try turning off the lens IS, also if you are using a 3rd party lens adapter maybe try using the native mount or a Canon adapter. When you turn off digital IS does it fix the issue? Are you sure there are no micro vibrations coming from somewhere like the floor that the tripod is sitting on?

And such is life in the digital age of shopping. Are you serious? You actually tried to call Amaevil? I think you might be shopping in the wrong place for that kind of service. Go the local camera store in France and buy a GH6 as you’ll get the experience you’re looking for. FX30 looks good too, especially if you prioritize AF and DR over IBIS and color.

nothing wrong with shooting 1080p prores, something i do pretty often on the p4k. speaking of black friday deals, check out those meike mft lenses on their site, or look for them on the second hand market where people are tend to be selling them for an insane price occasionally.

    Your E-mount fav lenses

I got rid of all but one of my native e-mount lenses long ago; I use adapted lenses which gives me literally thousands of lenses to choose from. That was originally the big selling point for e-mount: almost anything can be adapted to it. Not having any e-mount glass gives me the flexibility to use my lenses on whatever cameras I want to, now and in the future. My only e-mount lens is the Mitakon 50/0.95, a special-purpose lens that offers great low-light performance, amazing bokeh, but mostly boring rendering. Otherwise I'm using rangefinder lenses (M mount and LTM mount), some old and some new; I have two MS Optics lenses that are amazing and I'd like to use them for video but not sure how I'd ever fit ND filters to them (or put them in a matte box). My other rangefinder lenses are old, from the 1940s to 1960s; I love them for their rendering and tiny size. I also use my Minolta Rokkors on Sony, a great combination and the most practical for video since you can easily get step-up rings to fit ND filters and/or matte boxes. Some have rotating front elements, so a matte box needs to be fixed to rails. All that said, I never shoot video with Sony...yet. The FX-30 has me pondering it as a practical low-light alternative to my existing cine cams (Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera and original Pocket).

I agree the 18-105 is a really versatile lens: power zoom and near par focal. A little deficient on the wide end, but now there is a perfect complement: the Sony E PZ 10-20mm constant f4. Shooting Sony APS-C has real advantages in terms of video-advantaged lenses.

At that price, very tempting! I might have even been tempted myself…except I am in the middle of selling and moving to Northern France, so have no spare cash right now 🤪

  11. I know there's tons of tests out there and each one will reach some conclusion; but I also know I personally own both cameras and for me and the type of content that I shoot and the temperatures that I shoot in, the R5 overheated for me while shooting mostly photos with a few video clips here and there when the ambient temps were around 86F and 70% humidity whereas the R7 has never given me the overheating warning even when shooting in ambient temps of around 100F and the humidity was around 10%. The R5 was on FW version 1.5 and I haven't shot any video clips after upgrading to FW 1.6 since the R7 is now my go to hybrid camera. Another annoying problem with the R5 is that it still has the 30min record limit. I have to believe that Canon will remove that limit soon, but until it happens, I will just remain in disbelief that they removed it from the R6II, R7, and R3 but have yet to do so (if they ever will) for the R6 and R5....and we are talking years after Panasonic and Sony removed theirs. As far as DR and IQ, I believe it would be very difficult to tell the difference between the R5, R6, R6II, and R7 in real world shooting (not pixel peeping). Even the R7's line skipped 4K60FPS is more than sufficient for social media content. I've also gained a new appreciation for crop sensors since owning the R7. The extra reach it gives me with the 24-105, 70-200, and even the 24-70 took a little getting used to but its a real treat to work with now. I think the two main limitations that the R7 has is the fact that it does not have a dual native ISO so it can't compete with the R5 for lowlight and that line skipped 4K60FPS is definitely noticeable in the pixel peeping comparisons.

I'm not sure about zero sharpening but I have the GH5, GH6 and S1, the GH6 is less "sharp" than the GH5 in 4K. There is far less artificial sharpening, even when I set the sharpness of the GH6 at +5, the GH5 at 0 is still sharper. However the Open Gate 5K of the GH5 is still beautiful, there is almost zero sharpening and noise reduction, the image is very "organic". The issue I have with the GH6 is the new noise reduction algorithm (called 3D), it makes the low light really cleaner than GH5 but it also smear details in some areas of the image in low light even at ISO 200 (a bit like the Samsung NX1 but much less aggressive), even with the NR set at -5. I think there is no miracle, we speak about a M43 25MP sensor so some concessions must be made, but I was very surprised to see the GH5 retaining better details (the trade off is the noise). The 5,7K is a different beast, it uses more sharpening and a bit less noise reduction (the footage is sharper than the 5,9K and 6K of the S1), however there is a little crop in this mode and nobody speaks about it. For me the big advantages of the GH6 are the new color science, the 4K 120fps and the very good stabilization making (almost) possible handheld walking video.

  13. That's an incredible shot and even more interesting backstory. 4200hrs and 720K photos. I am definitely not shooting anything that requires that kind of dedication or precision. For me its really just a matter of being my own worst critic, even though it is for a client shoot, I still know when I am not getting the shots I was getting with an OVF. Now these are definitely great examples of where timing was key and where you couldn't use burst mode to create the shot due to the flash recycle limitations. Maybe it is like you and @kye are saying; I only have a few thousand images with the R5 so far and most of them don't require precision or timing so it might just be a matter of getting used to it. Shutter lag didn't even cross my mind, it could be a combination of EVF and shutter lag for my R5. Or it is still possible my R5 simply has more lag than it is supposed to; my brief R7 tests show a big improvement. CPS didn't seem to have an official test for this, in the ticket notes all they said was that they compared it to another R5.....no help at all if the second R5 they compared it to had the same problem. I definitely don't need a 1DXIII for the things I shoot, my 5DIV was more than adequate for everything I threw at it.

  14. Really not sure why you cannot do it with an EVF..... but people are different so fair enough. Then you should buy a used 1Dx III until you find one. I'm still a bit puzzled as is mentioned the strobe example, where you are in single shoot mode so in the right settings R3 and R5 both runs at 120 fps refresh, now the R3 can maintain this even at 30 fps making is blackout free but the lag is the same so in a single shoot there are no difference. Btw there is another lag that is a shutter lag that is a different story, and this is 83ms in machinal and 50ms in ES for the R5, 5IV is 58ms (plus 86ms blackout) and R3 is 20ms in ES. Some more examples where timing is key with strobes but if you do it a lot you will notice as your brain will start to anticipate the "lag"
