On R5/R5C 8K/4K Fine it is 15.5ms, on 4K standard mode and 4K50p it change to 9.6ms, on 5.9K RAW APS-C it is 11.5ms On R7 the 4K Fine mode it is around 31ms according to the graph, so if 4K50P is 14.5ms then I think 4k non standard will be the same as 4K50p. I knew Gordon done the test of 4K fine, 4K standard and 1080p quality comparison on the R5, 4k standard is still way sharper than 1080p.2 points

Using V-Log and internal ProRes, the amount of noise reduction is by far the least I've seen on any Lumix camera, especially chroma NR. Which also means that it outperforms the S Series when it comes to capturing chroma detail below middle gray (important for skin, foliage etc). On the S Series I can achieve the same using external BRAW, but that comes with a culprit: strong sharpening and spatial luma filtering. Also I really don't think the second video was shot using V-Log at all, the sharpening halos on the S5 footage alone are a huge give away of using a regular sRGB/Rec709 profile with standard settings, or someone played around with the NR/sharpening settings to manipulate the outcome. The S5 shooting V-Log with default settings doesn't show any sharpening artefacts.1 point

This is the only test I can see that they did 8K25p and 8K50P rolling shutter, seems like same rolling shutter performance on 25p and 50p1 point

Panasonic GH6
John Matthews reacted to Beritar for a topic
Yes you're right, DR Boost is ON in photo mode but not always, it is ON from ISO 800 (the same as video mode with other profiles than Vlog), this is why DPreview and Photonstophotos show a better dynamic range from ISO 800. I agree about dynamic range, 10 stops is ok. What bother me is the noise reduction, I prefer to get 10 stops with details than 12 stops with less details in shadows. I don't know why Panasonic don't let us the choice to use zero sharpening and noise reduction on the GH6, I know you can in RAW but this is not internal.1 point -

To those who still complain on lack of IBIS... Here is a test made without it on the inexpensive RF 24mm f/1.8. It's not the R5C but just for the sake of it shows how it does the job done though, eventually more suitable than any wobble/jerky artifacts for poor handheld work anyway.1 point

Panasonic GH6
Beritar reacted to John Matthews for a topic
The GH6, from my limited experience, doesn't behave the same as other cameras (at least in photo mode). The first thing I noticed right off the bat was that you need to expose more like the final image you intend on getting, not just shooting for the highlights. Also, you should know that the DR Boost mode is always ON in photo mode (Panasonic confirmed that in a live stream). 13 stops in video mode is probably generous on the GH6, but so is 15 stops on the A7sIII. Anyway, I think anything above 10 stops is AMAZING for rec709 and current viewing possibilities! 13 stops way more than what was going on just 10 years ago, and on a M43 sensor. I don't think we're going to get much more real differences with CMOS sensor tech anyway. Of course, there's still room for improvements, but we're not going to get 27 stops DR 20bit gigapixel images without a major change. In the meantime, we've got AI.1 point -
Lenses

Some frames from the Panasonic 12-32mm F3.5-5.6 on the OG BMPCC. This lens is a good size appropriate option for the OG BMPCC as a general all rounder and has the additional benefit of IS. It is pretty slow though but this has the advantage of you not really needing ND when you are in what passes for broad daylight in Copenhagen. The big downside is that there is no manual focus so you have to rely on the one shot AF on the camera to pre-focus. Again, though, the small aperture is an advantage here as you generally have enough DOF to get away with the AF getting you in the ballpark.1 point -
Something that really pisses me off is this mania of repeating the same "solution" (?) ad nauseam when something is coming into their empty hands... Before it was the shallow DoF from 35mm adapters and HDSLR introduction... Slowmotion came later and so on. And on and on. Now it is the 10-bit banding-free skies from people who look like to have found for first time the acronym DR, the word latitude or whatever they call it cinematic. Oh well. Please do not repeat it or no new resource will produce anything. First definition of cinematic. Zoom out. Forget the story, sound design and talent of the shooter's sample. The camera. Also. Because to be cinematic is much beyond that. More than resources, the way they're managed. EAG :- )1 point

I used the R5c with the full cage and the FxLion One Battery on top of the cage on a Ronin S quite a bit and depending on the lens is a bit at the limit with the clearance. The EVF of the R5c is stick out quite a bit and the cage need some more space on the motor side. Sold the S and now I use a RS3 Pro and due to stronger motors and longer harms I can mount whatever with no issue. For my Africa project I did use a lot with the 70-200 and no problem at all to balance and still have enough clearance to go underslung. Although Smallrig claims the cage to be compatible with the DJI arca plate ,mine is not and I tested with RSC2 (too small for this camera anyway) and RS3 Pro plates and due to the security pin both cannot take the cage directly. I have the R5 full cage so maybe. Bottomline either you mount the DJI arca adapter (that comes with the gimbal) on the tripod hole of the cage or if you want something more solid you need to buy this: SMALLRIG Quick Release Plate for Arca-Type Standard Compatible with DJI RS 2 / RSC 2 / RS 3 / RS 3 Pro Gimbal - 3154 or this SMALLRIG Camera Quick Release Plate Adapter with Arca-Swiss for DJI RS 2/RSC 2/RS 3/RS 3 Pro & for Ronin-S Gimbal - 3061. I use the gimbal on high vibration environment quite a bit, on MTB, Motorbike, Jeep, Skii, Heli so the stronger motor of the RS3 Pro is a no brainer for my usage. For only 200g more is imo worth. The new auto locking of the RS3 and RS3 Pro seems a small thing but it makes life so much easier.1 point

R5 and R5c have the same weather resistance. Both not at the same level as 1Dx. Used my R5 and R5c in sandy, light raining and light snow with no issue so far but they are insured so I take more risks without worrying.1 point -

I have one button to cycle through the AF frame, one to enable / disable face tracking, one to pause AF while pressing, and one as suggested above to toggle AF on/off. One thing that I find super useful is peaking with AF..... on the R5 peaking does not work while in AF but on the R5c it works and I find a realy life saver as even is super bright sun or strange angle on the LCD I can always monitor if the AF is spot on or not. A useful battery hack for the R5C. Basically if you hit the Media button and keep it in that mode while you aren't shooting, you can almost triple the battery's life:1 point -

So I did many test and the face tracking the R5c thanks to the Face Only mode is more reliable/usable for video than the R5. I did shoot a school theater (not my usual stuff) and with a 70-200 at 2.8 with even changing lights etc the Face AF worked almost perfectly and when it loses the Face the fact that it does not jump focus it does not ruin the shoot. In pure speed R5 and R5c with the AF settings to the max speed/reactive they are exactly the same, I tested side by side with the same lens. Now here is where my problem was the "large AF area" of the R5c is similar to the second smaller AF area of the R5 the one that I use the most for action and it turns out that R5c tend to stick to the BG and not refocus on the subject but surprisingly when using the smaller AF area the R5c works like the R5 in the second smaller area. Bottomline this seems to fix my issue. Still it would be cool to have R5 AF engine animal, vehicle and all the other AF area at disposal but with this setup it seems to work for my stuff as I normal use either Face or the small area AF. Bottomline the camera is growing on me, but it could be just amazing if they would really share more between the two systems.1 point -

From the official spec it was always clear that 8K 50/60 works with internal battery only without AF and IS, with external power AF IS works as normal including EF lenses. If I recall correctly that Gordon got it working on internal battery 8k 50p (not 60) with AF and IS but it was a pre release camera. This could even be lens dependent as I can imagine that you need less power for a 35 1.8 IS than for a 400 2.8 IS lens or could be that the final firmware simply does not allow it anymore as it may not be reliable.1 point -

As far as I could understand, we strictly need external battery to reach 8K RAW LT 50p going with AF + IS but both work with RF lens (I guess with EF lens adapter too?), correct? How come and from where comes that information you mention to be more precise mate @gt3rs?1 point -

Got the R5c today, checked the video AF and it locked on fine. 512GB only last 30min of 8k50p, on 5.9k 50p it last nearly an hour which is more doable. Might have to use the speedbooster again for 5.9k raw 🤔 And battery life is much worse than R5, 4k50p last 40 something min so I guess I will be pairing with my 18w pd powerbank for long tripod shoot.. Btw absolutely no video on photo mode. You have to switch mode to do video and vice versa. Body and operating wise it feels like mini c70 when shooting video, better balance with lens than R5 I reckon.1 point -

Dunno, dunno... Is this actually bad?! Really? Well, no idea about y'all fellows, but I've had a few cases where the manufacturers don't even admit any faulty unit, just to not mention any QC issues... go figure! : P In a line, glad they did it : ) So I guess they've actually done it in the other way round to my book instead. Comes to my mind... sorta when a teen ignores the beautiful curves of the new chick on the block just to avoid how to afford the high expenses for courting her...
