  1. Here's a gift from and to EOSHD. It's been a journey these past 10 years. Me and mine have bopped in and out of here over the years. We would like to share our old-fashioned American Christmas film. It takes place on Christmas Eve, so I guess today's an appropriate time to share it! This film wouldn't have been made without EOSHD and everyone's wisdom helping us grow technically, especially with advice regarding M43 cams. If you like classic Hollywood movies, let us know what you think about our attempt at making a 1930's style film. Happy Christmas!

  2. 400Mbps All-I codec would be nice. And option to completely turn off sharpening.

  3. First, the Flat profile is indeed a log profile, and the gamma can be adjusted in the camera. And 10bit colors was available at the start even in 5.3K 60p. In Linear mode, there is hardly any fisheye, and at 5.3K resolution there is plenty of detail for 4K despite the crop. But now with GoPro Labs firmware: 1. You can up the bitrate to 200 Mbps (HEVC, 10bit). 2. You can now shoot 4K 120p in 10bit (newest firmware). 3. You can turn off noise reduction - and you get visibly more detail, and any noise is actually very fine. 5.3K using 2.35:1 crop (10bit, Flat, Linear, extended color gamut (Native), 180 Mbps HEVC): 4K 120P 10bit, Flat, 180Mbps:

  4. @IronFilm Won´t give you a like for your post to not be part of the exitement which pushes prices up again for this gem. Well, guess you do get one from me. Shhh.:) I treated myself with a BMPCC OG. Planning on using it as a fun cinema verité camera. Came with an old battery but otherwise like brandnew and accompanied by the pretty Lumix 20mm 1.7 MK2, all for 250 EUR!!

    Fuji X-H2S

Recently purchased the X-H2s, and you know me, the first thing I look at is chroma resolution. Just dropping this in, on the left side you see the Cr channel of an EOS R 4K C-Log 8bit 4:2:0 recording (about 420 Mbps), on the right side it's X-H2s 4K F-Log 10bit 4:2:2 (about 615Mbps): Don't get me wrong it's better than the X-T3, but this smoothing can still lead to loss of color. I really wish we could turn it off and deal with color noise in post. ProRes RAW helps but it's a mystery to me. RAW on the X-H2s has the X-Trans pattern, obviously. However, it gets magically converted into Bayer in the ProRes RAW file. I had discussions with people who are involved in ProRes RAW->DNG conversion, also did my own test with Raw convertor (resulting DNG has Bayer pattern) and it seems that the data that arrives to a Ninja V recorder is already Bayer, even though the sensor is X-Trans. I'm still trying to confirm all this but if the body demosaics the X-Trans pattern and remosaics it into Bayer, then it's kind of a hack which in some cases can lead to artifacts.

  9. Sony PMW-F5, they're crazy dirt cheap now, almost being given away. And if you're lucky enough to get one with an R5 (an R7 would be even nicer... but that's just impossible and living in a dreamland) then you've really got something special. And with storage now being so dirt cheap, why not?

  10. Another year, I return with my traditional police Christmas video. This year a short film of a thief who climbs the walls dressed as Santa Claus, to camouflage himself as the popular Christmas decoration. Remember that it is a video that we make in which each roll is interpreted by policemen, not actors, and that the technical section this time is made up of some more members of the squad, where only 2 of us have audiovisual knowledge. I hope it makes you laugh at least a small part of what we have laughed shooting it. A greeting to all, and especially to Andrew.
