  2. Here's a gift from and to EOSHD. It's been a journey these past 10 years. Me and mine have bopped in and out of here over the years. We would like to share our old-fashioned American Christmas film. It takes place on Christmas Eve, so I guess today's an appropriate time to share it! This film wouldn't have been made without EOSHD and everyone's wisdom helping us grow technically, especially with advice regarding M43 cams. If you like classic Hollywood movies, let us know what you think about our attempt at making a 1930's style film. Happy Christmas!

  3. S5 with full HDMI, internal ND, zero (-1) option for sharpening like S1H and OPLF filter. Or a S1H with internal ND but with SDI, since it´s already a biggie and the BS1H has it already. Btw, my vote for Blackmagic on quality of videos posted on youtube in comparison to current Sony, Pana, Canon and Fuji videos. I enjoy my BM Micro more than my S1, which is far from being the perfect camera.

  4. No offence but that just sounds uninformed. You have an idea that one arbitrary format is better than another because of principles you haven’t explained and sounds to me like you’ve bought into the false idea of more K’s = better. What good is a perfect, no crop desqueezed anamorphic image when you can’t grade it without banding and cheap artefacts. I really don’t get where you’re coming from.

  5. If they add competitive AF to Pocket that would be very close near to perfect. Everything else are shorted already somehow, except IBIS, but that is almost secondary, they have the gyro thingy going on and plenty of lenses's I.S. Canon RF with everything would be very highly priced, literally.

  6. I wish I could find an C100mkII bargain..they hold price surprisingly well considering all the facts and truths.. It could be my workhorse for so many occasions..

  8. To me, the best camera out there right now is pretty darn close to my perfect camera, and that's the Z9. Of course that's way out of my price range and would require switching systems. I have never enjoyed using Sony cameras. They are utilitarian to a fault. So it's always so wild to me when people say Sony is the closest to being "the perfect camera" for them. The IBIS is pretty much useless unless you're standing still, their ergonomics aren't good (some like them though), I don't like their color, S-log is harder to grade vs. V-log, they lack the video focus features that entry level Panasonic cameras have (how are you going to release a "cinema camera" that lacks video features?!), and ultimately I don't get any joy out of using them. That last one is the most important. To me the biggest selling point for Sony is that they're arguably the most stable brand right now, and so I wouldn't have to worry about investing into the system and it being sold or shuttered as the market shrinks and companies decide to get out of the camera business. If I was just an enthusiast that wouldn't matter so much, but as someone that makes a living using this equipment it is a huge factor. The S5 honestly is really, really close to being all I'll need for the next 5 years, short of some huge breakthrough in technology. I feel like most cameras are more than enough these days when it comes to capabilities. On the S5 there are so many little things that I'd like to see improved upon, but they're more "quality of life" type things. I'd LOVE to get that S1H screen on a S5. I like flip screens, but there are absolutely times when it'd be nice to just tilt it down or to the right in tight spaces. A full sized HDMI port should be standard on ALL cameras by now. E-ND would be nice, but I honestly don't mind using variable ND on my lenses. Better autofocus would be nice, but again I've made the autofocus work for me. A bigger EVF would be nice, but again, not a dealbreaker. I wish the rubberized texture was on the SD card door. I hope that the GH6 not having a battery grip was an oversight and not the direction they are moving in, so I hope whatever iteration that comes next has a battery grip. Related: I don't know if Panasonic made it difficult for third party manufacturers to make their battery grips or if the S5 just wasn't popular enough, but if they did make it difficult for them to make one I hope they don't do that going forward because while the S5 has very good battery life, it's still nice to have more. The DSTE grips I got for the G85 and GH5 were wonderful.

  9. I agree with you, they are all very close. My own list for perfection would be to start with the R7 or R6II and add: eND WFM GoPro level of digital IS Panasonic S5's level of menu customization 32bit Float Audio XFAVC codec Add all of FW features from the R6II to the R7 (focus guides, false color, etc.) Add the R6II's back dial to the R7 and add the R7's wheel around the joystick to the R6II Add a built in wireless flash transmitter to the R6 and R7. This would be awesome for quick off camera flash setups Honestly though, for me the R7 is already close enough that I don't really need any of those things and it is as close to perfect for what I do that it already is the perfect hybrid camera for me. But nice to haves will always be nice to have For me its just minor ecosystem optimizations that are on my wish list. The resolution, lowlight performance, DR, and codecs of any modern midrange mirrorless are more than sufficient for anything I need. And when I need more I have the C70.

    Sony FX30 (S35 FX3)

    Sony's best (?) APS-C zoom lens - the E 16-55mm f2.8 G lens.

  11. @IronFilm Won´t give you a like for your post to not be part of the exitement which pushes prices up again for this gem. Well, guess you do get one from me. Shhh.:) I treated myself with a BMPCC OG. Planning on using it as a fun cinema verité camera. Came with an old battery but otherwise like brandnew and accompanied by the pretty Lumix 20mm 1.7 MK2, all for 250 EUR!!

  13. Not possible with the given budget, time and venue. I brought the MixPre6 with me but wouldn't have been able to mic all of the instruments with only 4 XLR channels and no setup time. Only the mics were ran to an amplifier, everything else was live. Plus I'm not a sound guy, I would have later had to mix them in post which would have taken me a long time so once again not possible given the budget. For paying projects, budget is everything, when you start turning it into a passion project you start losing money in the form of time. I think most music videos are at least half passion projects anyway, you definitely do not shoot them for the money; but they are great to push your creativity. I agree, I would have liked to have had more b-roll to add to the footage; but there's that budget thing again. I even thought about shooting some b-roll at a different venue on the way back from the shoot but it was already dark and the rest of the budget was allocated for editing. The two cameras mix perfectly at least to me. I am not a pixel peeper or Hollywood colorist so all I did was WB them the same, same LOG profile (CLOG3), and exposed the same (both were set at F2.0) to keep it simple. I used AF on the R7 for all of the indoor shots, I used MF a few times outdoors to get it to focus on what I needed but indoors even in the lowlight it was perfect. I kept it simple as usual and used the center crosshairs only, no fancy face or subject tracking. All of the band performances was a single take so no camera problems from either one. The C70 of course was locked down and set to MF, no way would I have trusted that camera with AF in that lighting (yes it really is that bad at lowlight AF) plus I didn't need it anyway with the 24mm lens on it and stationary. Yes, that mic is awesome, I was a little skeptical since I wanted a Rode mic, but that one is one of the few mini XLR shotgun mics available and I hate fiddling with extra wires and adapters if I can avoid it so I got that one instead. BTW mini-XLR has really grown on me, I think it was a really good decision by Canon and I believe BM did the same thing with their smaller cameras. It really makes the handheld form factor more manageable without dropping all the way down to 3.5mm. For my Sennheiser wireless receiver, I got this locking mini-XLR cable which pairs with the camera and receiver perfectly.

  14. Just a guy, reading the same rumour sites as everyone else, but then decides to make a video about it with catchy thumbnail (expressive face, bold colours) and suppressing a healthy dose of scepsis, hoping to gain some traffic. He's not the only one using that technique.

  15. Awesome production, it truly had all the feel of the start of a Hollywood Christmas movie. Even more impressive considering the crew you were working with. @kaylee that is pretty incredible, I've never even heard of something like that, I had to reread your post just to figure out what I was looking at. It sounds like this is the Christmas thread so here is my contribution; much less exciting than both of yours but it fits with the Christmas spirit 😀 For the following video I used the Canon C70 as the A cam (wide shot) and the Canon R7 for the closeups. The C70 was shooting 12bit raw, with the Canon EF 24-105mm and the speedbooster. The Canon R7 was set to compressed IPB, 4KFine with the Canon RF 70-200mm F2.8. Both cameras were set to CLOG3 Cinema Gamut, post processed in DR and color graded using DR's managed color. The opening detail shots were shot with the Canon R5 since I had already set up the R7 and C70 on their tripods.

    Shoot Film Stills?

I just got back into film photography. Last month I did an Evil Dead inspired horror photo shoot. This is the first time I've done a conceptual photo shoot with a model. I resurrected my old 35mm Canon Rebel and bought a couple of lenses. This is shot with the Canon 28mm 1.8 (all wide open) on 35mm with Kodak Portra 800. I have some more horror themed photo shoots set up, and some pinup style shoots as well. I also recently got a Yashica Rookie TLR camera and some 120 film.
