Panasonic S5 II (What does Panasonic have up their sleeve?)
Juank and one other reacted to Amazeballs for a topic
Its a simple question of comptetion. FF 4k60 should be a defacto standadt of a video-oriented camera this days. OK 20% crop is passible but not 50%. Thats it. But I guess Pana is reusing an old Sony IMX410 sensor over and over again and that is sad in itself. If a PDAF is their main feature to differentiate from S5 its not all that great. Its important for the future of the system but just for the S5mk2 itself.. not so much. We need more after 2.5 years.2 points -
Since I'm here... I may as well post a couple shots from my newest copy of the Nikkor 35mm 1.4 lens on the FP. I've owned a few of these over the years and always make the mistake of selling it. With the uptick in prices, I thought it would be out of reach... well patience pays off and I was able to find one for a reasonable price.2 points

Panasonic S5 II (What does Panasonic have up their sleeve?)

I mean, it's a full frame camera. It'd be nice to be able to do 4K 60p without a crop. I like to have the choice between full frame and APS-C. It's one of the benefits of full frame that has won me over, as I can extend the reach of my lenses.1 point -
Super 16 crop on the USRA mini Pro 12k offers: 6144 x 3240 (6K Super16) up to 120 fps with 7.8ms rolling shutter. 4096 x 2160 (4K Super16) up to 240 fps with 4.25ms rolling shutter.1 point

Nothing. Except if you are a hybrid shooter like me with a prime and flipping between stills and video all day long! That 28mm…well the framing was great for those stills, but then I flipped to video and it’s more like 42mm and I can’t back up to match as I was already backed up to the wall! ”So just shoot FF or APSC!” Well I could but I like what I get from my Lumix cameras so I work around it by having cameras and lenses dedicated to certain things at certain times. It is a workaround but one I can live with if I have to and for most of the video side, I actually use a 28-70mm f2.8 to which I have just added a 16-28 giving me options more like 24-42mm and 42-105mm and I tend to use the wider angle as my indoor lens and switch to the longer zoom as my outdoor. I then only use the extreme ends (as if they were twin primes) so indoor I shoot 24 and 42 and outdoor 42 and 105 which as with any focal lengths you become used to, gives you a ‘look’ that you just know how to work with. I have the above set up with the S5 dedicated to indoor (and gimbal outdoor) and the S1H outdoor. This is possibly where I might just trade both cams for one single S5ii and keep my S1R’s…1 point

That is an unambiguous and obvious clue to what we all been waiting for the past 5 years! Hurray comrades!1 point -
I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here but what's wrong with 4K@60p being APSC? Full of S35 cinema camera out there.1 point

Why not do a FHD challenge? Allowing more cameras than just the F3, but see who can make the best piece in under 2 minutes?1 point

I have two of these cameras and love them but the downside is fixed-pattern noise. Not an issue if you give the camera enough light but FPN can quickly rear its ugly head and it's very difficult to eliminate. There was a detailed thread about it on the BMD forum here: https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=115570 Interesting about the BMPCC 4K in S16 mode. I've also heard very high praise for the Ursa Mini 12K in Super 16 crop but have yet to see examples.1 point

Seriously? Who the hell cares and why. It's a tool, if its nice to use and produces great images, what does looks matter?1 point -
Blacked out LUMIX logo a la Leica SL2. I like that. I used a black sharpie on mine just to make them more subtle 😁1 point

What OG cams you got your eyes on going into 2023?
Kisaha reacted to Trek of Joy for a topic
Forgot about the c100 mkII as well - DPAF, ND's, Clog, XLR audio, 60p and so on. When prices hit $500 or so, I'll give it a look. 1080p is plenty for social and most deliverables. But everything is just so easy with the a7sIII, I haven't given many video cameras a second look in a couple years. I'm always thinking the grass is greener with the BM Micro. So many cool options, I just don't like having a lot of gear sitting around that doesn't get used. Chris1 point -

The X body looks the same except without the red dials. The poster also mentions that both bodies will have a Phase Hybrid AF.1 point -
Amazing work, maybe a bit less jitter next time and actors should be more theatrical in their performance and scream their lines as was the norm in the 1930s, their microphones were shoddy which is why people spoke so loud in old movies LOL Loved the old timey dolly movements though and those classic zoom in.1 point

Never seen such bad video from these guys before, well maybe 10 years ago LOL but wow, thats terrible, GH4 produced better looking images than this OM-1, user error?? Or just bad codec and CFA implementation?1 point

It looks like there will be an S5ii and S5iiX along with a 14-28 Macro lens. No details on what the X body brings. Announcement should be in next 2 weeks based on prevalence of leaks https://digicame-info.com/2022/12/lumix-dc-s5m2-dc-s5m2xlumix-s-.html1 point -

Another potential contender for all round compact lens for the OG Pocket is this Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6. It has two levers (one for zoom and one for focus) but in terms of smoothness I think the focus works better than the zoom but its still easy to overshoot. Like a manual version of DFD really. The OIS is reasonable and is obviously a big advantage with the OG Pocket. I only got this lens under sufferance to check remote zoom functionality for my controllers as it is a powered zoom and thankfully I got it really cheap because after using it in semi-anger for the first time a few days ago I am not particularly fond of it at all. In use, I found it tricky to get focus with but the combination of it having lowish contrast so not firing the less than ideal focus peaking of the OG Pocket and monitoring on the the less than ideal OG Pocket screen and the failing eyesight of the less than ideal OG Me might well explain that so I'll have to give it another go under different circumstances. Anyway, here are some rough, soft, low res grabs from the ProRes 422 video file and I suppose I could maybe recommend this combo if you are after less a Super 16 and more a Super 8 feel 🙂1 point -

Some frames from the Panasonic 12-32mm F3.5-5.6 on the OG BMPCC. This lens is a good size appropriate option for the OG BMPCC as a general all rounder and has the additional benefit of IS. It is pretty slow though but this has the advantage of you not really needing ND when you are in what passes for broad daylight in Copenhagen. The big downside is that there is no manual focus so you have to rely on the one shot AF on the camera to pre-focus. Again, though, the small aperture is an advantage here as you generally have enough DOF to get away with the AF getting you in the ballpark.1 point -
I also liked Grimors joke. I think he for sure developed a good taste regarding insider camera jokes. If we have camera developers with a sense of humor around, I would love that for both facts, for their development skills and their humor as well. 🙂 Too bad that out of the 3ccd 2/3 sensor cameras like the Varicams there never materialized a camera in the body of a DVX100 or HPX250, the latter though with great codec, but without ccd magic and 1/6 sensor size.1 point
