  1. Not really. It's pretty much out of their hands at this point. They COULD release firmware updates for lenses, but it'd be pointless and they'd never actually do it. Why bother when hardly anyone would actually install the updates? At this point the only thing that'll impact compatibility is the adapters and cameras themselves.

  3. Olympus/OMD might technically have the best IBIS but lacks the video features of the others. The GH6 and the S5ii both are probably at the top of the pack. Really, no one else other than Olympus comes close.

    Canon EOS R5C

Yeah I just looked into it and indeed R5 is also dual ISO but just not officially. On R5C there is a base ISO mode (kinda similar to Sony's EI mode) that locks you to ISO 800/3200 only. Kinda cool. As for the 30mn time limit, yeah that annoying. Canon removed it on R3/R5C/R7/R6ii. Don't forget R5/R6 are just second generation Canon mirrorless. It usually takes that third gen for such quirks to be ironed out. Same with Sony A7S series. I do have leftover R6 batteries (just realised it yesterday when going through camera bag)! But I disagree that the R3 battery is a downside. The LP-E19's hold double the capacity so that means less swapping and less charging which is clutch. I'll take that over multi body battery interchangeability. In the R3 video I posted above, the guy uses a gimbal just fine it seems. Keep in mind the R3 body is mega light despite its size. an R3 is lighter than a R5 + grip! That said I'm sure not any gimbal works with an R3. Yeah the S5II does give you a whole lot for very money. Even has open-gate. But I saw some latest tests and the AF is still a work in progress, you can tell its first-gen PDAF. And yeah whole other lens ecosystem. Also been reading stuff here about Vlog being hard to grade and overall CS issues. This is where Canon really shines imo, you can throw anything at Clog and it always comes out good. To me this is a big pro for R5C. But I'm used to cine cams. I want all those options. You can have the ones you use the most inside My Menu. You can assign buttons for Q&S. Shutter angle alone is fantastic, set it to 180 degree and you no longer have to fiddle with shutter speeds when changing frame rates. Punch-in while recording to check critical focus. WFM, false color etc. On R5/R6/R3 all you have is that histogram that disappears once you hit record. Its a joke for serious work or complex scenes so you have to use an external monitor which adds weight and clunkiness. All of a sudden R5C with an external battery doesn't sound so bad! YMMV of course, as we see above depending on our requirements and user cases a pro can be a con and vice versa. It is interesting to hear how others shoot and view such things though!

  5. I have seen amazing deals on used M1 Macs. You can often save 75% sometimes even 50%. Tech devalues so fast it is crazy.

    Indie Christmas Movie

Massive data rate file that was uploaded in 4K, so that helps. Seems to have maintained a lot of the detail. I uploaded an .mp4 file. We used the Universe plugin from Red Giant for the dust and the jumpy gate weave. "Misfire" was the effect setting. I think maybe those film damage effects subtly popping up as things go along helps with the look. Black dust and very subtle splotching are there, but not too obvious. We didn't want it to look like a reel that had been on the road for months, suffering all that accumulating spooling damage, but what you would potentially see as the first pristine print at a premiere, you know? The 'tight' gate weave keeps the frame hopping left to right just a little also, which I think looks cool. BTW, the plugin is too flaky. Can't recommend Maxtor stuff based of this particular effect. The effect is nice and this one did the job, but it wasn't reliable. Crashed my system a lot. Also used FilmConvertNitrate for the B&W stock film look and underlying film grain. "IL FN P4" for those of you that have that plugin.

  7. On full frame I think I'd have to go 35mm. The ability to switch from FF to APSC would give me the ability to use it as a 35mm and a 50mm, and those are two of my most common focal lengths. A 50mm would come close, since then I'd have some telephoto capabilities but I think the 35 would win out.

  8. Looking forward to seeing some of your kewl stuff now in Kodak 250d glory. @BenEricson @QuickHitRecord Awesome!:) Just recently I browsed the webs for 16mm and S16mm film videos. Lovin it. Nothing more relaxing than watching some analogue film digitized for us to enjoy. Talking about grain. 🙂
