  1. People from the marketing departments of these companies must read these threads and start furiously pleasuring themselves.

  2. First attempt at grading Vlog. Well first proper attempt and with the S5ii because I have tried in previous years with the S5 and S1H and always ended up going back to first the Natural profile and then the Flat profile. This was with Gamut's (old, I need to download the latest version) re709 conversion and then my grade on top. 4k 50p S35 crop footage shot with Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 APSC lens.

  4. An attempt at a more "filmic" grade with the Z6 NLOG image. It’s actually pretty darn simple. In Davinci Resolve I converted the image to rec709 with basic exposure/contrast adjustments. Then I transformed the color space from rec709 to cineon (designed for this specific LUT). I applied one of the film LUTS built into Davinci resolve. Then I add a glow effect to bloom the highlights. I increased saturation and adjusted the color temp to warm it up. That's pretty much it!

  5. Possibly just my imagination, but the S5ii seems to have an even higher build quality? Just setting it up and noticed a few other minor updates such as the better placement of the LCD/viewfinder auto sensor and of course it has the fan, plus the 30 min recording limit lifted (in most modes) so isn’t all about the AF!

  6. Ha! Absolutely zero thought or planning just ‘stand there a sec, look left, look right, walk towards me’, just so I had a single piece of log footage to play with. A lot of work to do you and then I’ll make a lut from whatever end grade I come up with for the stills work that is always the other 50% of the equation. But thanks for the kind words 👍

  7. This made my day man! Thanks so much! I feel like I’ve grown a lot mainly in terms of lighting over the past while, and I also am always really satisfied with the image the Z6 spits out! Such a great budget cam.

  8. Well, gh4 started a wave, first affordable 4k cam with good and slim codecs plus pro features in a pro body. Feels more solid than a Gh5 in my hand. Pro feel like my S1. Anyway. Love Canon too and my Sony Fs700 and PMW F3. Got a 5d2 and eos m used for hard to beat prices. Would love sell my S1 and snap myself a S1H thanks to AND despite posts on this forum. 🙂

  9. Sorry - Red One - released in 2007 is really the first... so, technically Red should be thanked for the 4K revolution. If we are talking about affordability... sure lets bring Panasonic in the picture... but it has to be in the same space as Chinese knock offs (I'm sorry if I'm triggering some people - but the truth hurts) and we all know Chinese knock offs are cheap.

  10. You can push and pull Nikon FLAT a decent amount! Obviously will still break if you push it too hard but it does well for not being a LOG profile

  11. Yeah just filmed some z6 8 bit and it has more flexibility than one would respect. For 8-bit lately I’ve actually done a CST to Arri LogC and then applied the Arri Rec709 LUT. Liking the results, and the camera can be had for like $850 if you look hard enough 😮

  12. Didn't Panasonic announce they were NOT going to be making any more compact cameras? Or has that decision been reversed? I wouldn't say no to an LX100iii if I was looking for a compact... Anyway, I've been spending money on lenses 🤪 I've had the Meike 50mm T2.1 for EF with the Fotodiox EF-L VND adapter for a while and used it a few times and liked it except for the size and weight, the latter especially which with the adaptor makes the total weight of 2.8lbs or 1.25kg...which is a bit weighty all day long off a camera strap along with a pair of S1Rs!! And that is 2.8lbs/1.25kg on top of the weight of the S1H which is already about the same on it's own. So I stopped using it partly because of that and partly because it was only one focal length. But the other day, I started watching a few 'budget' cine lens reviews and came across the 7Artisans APSC T1.05 range. These looked good...but then I found the smaller and lighter T2.0 'Vision' range and a set of 3; 35mm, 50mm and 85mm for 1250 dollars delivered. Button pushed. I will probably have to pay some import duty but still, a bit of a bargain for a set like that. So when they turn up, that is final final FINAL line up of bodies and lenses for this year which will be: Stills (plus if needs be, some additional video B roll) S1R + Sigma 16-28mm f2.8 (indoor) or 28-70mm f2.8 (outdoor) S1R + Sigma 85mm f1.4 Video S5ii + Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 (APSC lens) on gimbal and static duty S1H + 35/50/85mm T2.0 cine lenses for all other filming work. I would still like to end up with 3 identical bodies at some point as it will make several aspects of my work so much easier, but for now at least, this should be a 'perfect' combo for me and my specific needs. S1H successor with PDAF...?? 🤩

  13. Broadcast cameras maybe not, but broadcast lenses they've done for over +60 years and the real mojo when it comes to video/film is in the lenses in my opinion (camera bodies and technology evolves every 6 months..): GH series brought affordability to the market.. well initially at least!

  14. Panny has been in the video, camera and broadcast market for very long. Canon had no broadcast cameras for decades. 🙂 2014, Panny started the 4K revolution. GH2 had lotta charisma, Lumix still has to me. Sometimes our assumptions and conclusions become a bit shaky after series of posts and replies. @FHDcrew posted a spiffy video shot with Nikon z6 to external prores. Looking better than 99% of youtube stuff. Some of the best looking stuff on this forum regarding colour and overall craft of the finished video. Solid!

  15. When people say you must overexpose vlog by 2 stops, they mean the exposure meter must say +2. The reason for this is that the exposure meter assumes a standard gamma curve and not a log curve. As mid gray on a log curve sits two stops above mid gray compared to a normal gamma curve, the exposure meter must say +2. In my opinion this is a user interface design error from Panasonic which only leads to confusion. So the proper answer is that you must expose correctly, and therefore ignore the exposure meter when shooting in vlog. Use the spot meter (which switches to EI in vlog) or waveform. Spot meter must say +0 EI and mid gray on the waveform sits on 42%.
