I'm not trying to lecture you, so forgive me if it comes off that way, but I don't know that you're getting the point that I was trying to make. How do you think we used to film in a low light situation when running and gunning with cameras that were infinitely worse at it than even a modern M43 camera? As @IronFilm said, the FX30 is miles ahead of what we had available to us back then, but people were still able to run and gun with those cameras in low light situations because we knew how to get around that limitation. Back then though we didn't have the luxury of owning LED pocket lights that cost under $100 and could easily be added to the camera's hot shoe. Is the hassle of carrying a small Aperture light when you need it really worth spending more on a FX3/A7Siii for those low light situations? For some I guess it is? Just seems silly to me.

Obviously, everyone's needs are different. If one has to shoot almost always in very dark situation with absolutely no way to setup even the smallest of lights, like a newshooter, then he must have the camera with the best lowlight quality. The FX30 is good enough in lowlight, as long as there is some light in the scene. Of couse it will do very poorly in pitch dark situation, but the same can be said for A7S3. Great in lowlight doesn't mean you don't have to light the scene. When we use the A7S3 at ISO 12800 setting on set of the short film, we still have to do porper lighting. You need light to produce a good image. Great lowlight capablity is not the substitute for lighting. Anyway, a cameraman has to adapt to the situation. In a lot of tight spaces or very poorly lit condition, even a small LED light panel can make the difference. Those are very cheap and portable, not luxurious at all. There are many differences that make the A7S3 or FX3 the better camera than the FX30, such as FF look, no 4K120P crop. The lowlight advantage is there but IMO not as important as many other factors.

Let’s share our work guys! I’ll start. Here is an interview I shot and lit the other day, featuring a congresswoman from Indians! One camera was a Nikon z6 recording into an Atomos ninja v. With a Tamron 45mm 1.8. The other was actually the ancient, cheap Canon 7D fitted with a Canon 85mm 1.2 shot at f/2.5!

  8. @MrSMW I picked up a Sigma 18-50 to use in crop mode based on your recommendation and it's great! Vignetting and distortion corrections work. AF is great (quiet as a mouse, I think it's actually totally silent). Build quality is good. Image looks good. I'm going to use it as a family/holiday lens. Thanks for the tip! I never would have spotted it otherwise, as it's not a popular choice for Panasonic L mount. I think I got the only one in all of Ireland!

  9. Hey friends, now with the latest built from Bilal and Dannes achievements before let´s get some Raw magic started. Thanks to our friend @ZEEK the latter are well reported, the former has been posted about here by our friend @QuickHitRecord The challenge would be up to us to make up. So what are your suggestions, what kinda challenge could that be? I think there are plenty Magic Lantern lovers and Canon owners. I got a EOS M for 75EU about a year ago and a 5D2 for 150. Still, I have not filmed anything with it yet. I feel pumped to try out my EOS M though with the latest built from Bilal, since even Danne seemed to like it. Some 50D cats here? Put some dirty fungus M42 Meyer Goerlitz on your cam and give us that Keny Ty look but not in filthy 420 8bit but in gorgeous RAW glory! 5D3 queens and kings? Mercer, you go! Some keywords for our magic fun tour: experimental, 3min narrative, video essay with photographic beauty, cinema verité exitement, locked shots parade..camer So all camera cats with the love for the some Raw image magic, let´s get our and your jazz on with magic lantern! 🙂

  10. Great idea. I'm psyched about this latest EOS-M build but I need a little push to get moving with this camera. I think the simpler the prompt, the better. I propose calling it something like the 'No More Camera Tests Magic Lantern Challenge', make the criteria that all entries be scripted, and leave the rest open to interpretation. And then we all share at the same time, perhaps at the end of May?

The trailer for my new YT channel about diving deep in the Mediterranean Sea. All shot with a GH5 and a GH5S with several wide angle and macro lenses plus wet lenses and CRI 95 Keldan lights.

Well, here is something I got tagged in yesterday that I worked on (as the Sound Mixer of course): https://www.instagram.com/p/CquYJX2vwrm/ Can't seem to see any trailer for 女儿来了 (My Daughter Is Coming) anywhere online though? Here is a little review of it: https://hongi.co.nz/news_article/asian-new-zealand-film-makers-represented-in-nationwide-festival/ (and the whole thing can be viewed online, but costs $$: https://ondemand.showmeshorts.co.nz/film/nu-er-lai-liao-my-daughter-is-coming/ ) Was shot by Darryl Wong on an ARRI AMIRA: https://www.instagram.com/p/CRxtDvMs61C/

  17. If you only need 60p, I would go a7IV or a used a7sIII over the FX30. I have both, love them. Not impressed by the low light of the FX30. I shoot the a7IV alongside my a7sIII and its been great. I have a copy that has no overheating issues. I posted my tests in the thread linked above. Some have copies that are much worse. If I were buying new, I'd stress test it and exchange if it overheats quickly. You can mix and match FF and crop lenses too, the small f/1.4 Sigma primes sell for about $200 used for a ton of light gathering when shooting 60p. The one downside in comparison is audio, but the FX XLR handle can be mounted on the a7's cage with an adapter from Smallrig if you can't find the other XLR adapters. But for me, if you're more video focused, a7sIII used prices are not far above $2000. For the cash its an unbeatable value - better RS and DR than the others. Get a cheap a6000 if you want higher mp stills. I keep an a6300 for stills when shooting video. Cheers Chris
