Blackmagic Micro Cinema Super Guide and Why It Still Matters
filmmakereu and one other reacted to PannySVHS for a topic
Though I got to use my Bmmcc to film two buddies of mine last year, which turned out to be an awesome display of colour prowess and though I got to do some test footage for an upcoming project and some cool BTS from a friends project, I still have nothing from this beauty to post here due to the nature of the material. But I got to test my OG Pocket which I couldnt resist to buy about three months or so ago when the price temptingly low.:) So I went with the tiny Panny 14mm F2.5 pancake, 800iso of course, Prores 422- not HQ, 360 shutter. Fstop up to 22. Lol. This camera is a dream in daylight. I had a test under tungsten and i found it to be just okay. But natural light or 5600K light fixtures are this cameras beautiful friends. So finally some rough n ready footage, collected over the course of a late afternoon to evening, shaky, clumsy but not withouth charme imho. Display and batteries were a challenge but workable for me. Sometimes sihouettes on the screen are enough when your eyes can see the real thing beyond the screen. Focussing was mostly prefocus and via AF button, so was the aperture adjustment with a bit of sneaking the histogram. Anyway, here it goes, my almost Bmmcc footage. 🙂2 points -
Better to not focus on the filmmaking technique or style of the shooter, only the camera he/she/they shoot is useful over here to such findings we're looking for on this thread about a new tool release, I guess. We can always go somewhere else to discuss aesthetics, I think. :- )2 points

I actually got a few project coming up that I m gonna try with E1 instead of using C70/R5C. I think i've gone overboard with my response and can't edit those post anymore so I m just gonna move on.2 points

I think there is a misunderstanding going on here. I don't patronize you guys, still wish we all would find back to kindness. We are pretty kewl people and a bit cheek in tongue shall not lead to hurts. I try to do the same.2 points

Lenses
PannySVHS reacted to Matt Kieley for a topic
I have a Fujinon 18-108mm 1.8 c-mount zoom that covers s16 that's very light and compact. Here it is next to my Canon 17-102 and Panasonic 12-35, and mounted on my GH5: I don't know if it's compact enough for you, but it's the smallest c-mount zoom that covers s16 that I've owned (and I've owned quite a few).1 point -
Oh yes, forgot about the SSD... 🤪 And what it came down to in the end for me was I only wanted the S5iix over the standard 5ii for personal aesthetic reasons, otherwise it doesn't offer a me a single thing I want or need. I'd add a Q3 into that numberbet soup. And surely, an X2D100C should be added into that mix? Not for it's video capabilities of course, because it has precisely zero, but just because it is an image making beast. But I am honestly honestly honestly happy with my body and lens line up now. It took some sorting out along with shooting modes and all manner of factors, but I have the whole kit and caboodle now nailed down from shooting through edit to delivery. Until anything future L Mount appears in the wild whether it be Lumix, Leica or Sigma... But even then, it will need to be something pretty special as there is currently nada on my shopping list in terms of needs or requirements. Well, except for I'd still like Sigma to make me a constant aperture f2.8 50-150mm or even just a Contemporary version of the 70-200mm f2.8. Otherwise spent up and done for '23!1 point

Seriously, guys. Overheating? Do you take long, boring takes from one position? That's what you shoot? I have shot short boring takes in all sorts of hot, muggy conditions and the camera did not even get warm. Anyway, for the first bright sunny day since I acquired the camera, I used the upgraded Sony FE 24-105 G lens to shoot an HDR video. New lens firmware, out last November, is alleged to have improved stabilization coordination with the A7R V - but since the ZV E1 has the exact same processors as that camera, I thought I would try the lens out. And no overheating. I guess I have to keep saying this...1 point

Panasonic S5 II (What does Panasonic have up their sleeve?)
inspiredtimothy reacted to Phil A for a topic
In Switzerland a new S5II from a store is 1763 CHF while the S5IIX is 2599 CHF... so hard to justify the price difference, considering what you can get for the 200$ firmware upgrade... so I guess with some luck, one might get a used S5II for 1000 less than a new S5IIX at this point. But I have to agree that I feel like there's a big opportunity missed by not having BRAW to an SSD instead of to an external recorder.1 point -
Panasonic S5 II (What does Panasonic have up their sleeve?)
inspiredtimothy reacted to BTM_Pix for a topic
The recording to SSD and ProRes of the S5iiX (with a minor mention of the connect to phone for streaming) are big differences that might persuade me if I was looking to buy an S5ii. Not that I am of course as I'm completely adamant that I'm not interested as I am dead set on a Z9/Z8/A1/X-H2S purchase next week. Absolutely nailed on. Not going to waver in the slightest. Honestly.1 point -
Likely my last travel video from China. The small camera was a success, in not attracting attention, not overheating, and grabbing high-quality images.1 point

No, I have the 28-85mm f3.3/4 and the 35-70mm f3.4 but have no experience of the 28-70mm f3.5/4.5. If I see one cheap enough next week then maybe I should get it as, of course, as we all know, if I don’t like it, I could, erm, EASILY recoup my costs 😉1 point

That was an interesting comparison. It's amazing that with more technical advances in lens making, how boring the image has become. To briefly change the subject and keep me from doing a deep dive... do you know anything about the 28-70mm 3.5-4.5 lens? It used to get so-so reviews compared to the "older" Zeiss C/Y zooms with some people speculating that it isn't even a true Zeiss lens. I read that it was released in '98, do you know if that was still a Yashica manufactured lens, or did Cosina take over production by then? If so, it could be a stand in at f/5.6 when I NEED a 28mm or 70mm FOV to go with my ZF lens.1 point

From the April edition of Film and Digital Times page 42: https://www.fdtimes.com/pdfs/free/120FDTimes-Apr2023-150.pdf and later on... and It also showed that the BMMCC were put in fireproof boxes. BMMCC and P4K on a €30,000,000 film shot in 2021 that screened on IMAX. Just goes to show that these cameras are still relevant and in active use in productions larger than anything being discussed on here.1 point

Posted this in the wrong thread yesterday, me silly.:) So here again where it belongs: The evfs for photocameras like the lumix gx1 and oly pens were tiny. It would be awesome if someone did a mod to them so they could be hooked up to the bmmcc via hdmi. I'd still like to know what evf Cesar Charlone was using here with a SI-2K. Looking very slim.1 point
