  1. Did you watch it? Is it a good interview? There's heaps of content on Joker around online - I think they did a bunch of it as PR. Here's an interview of The Joker colourist Jill Bogdanowicz by Cullen Kelly who is a professional colourist: I highly recommend Cullens YT channel BTW. He's a real working pro and the more of his videos I watch the more embarrassed I get for the other YouTubers that pretend to be colourists.

  2. They do have the coolest name for a camera though… BLACK MAGIC Just owning one must surely elevate you into the dark arts of video voodoo? If I had one, I wouldn’t have had to have used a black sharpie on my LUMIX logos.

  3. The BM Camera forums are constantly talking about new cameras. There was a thread that had hundreds of posts and went from March 2022 to April 2023 and the new mount thread simply replaced that thread as the current water cooler. The entire premise of the old thread was that BM hadn't announced a new camera already. https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=157059 It's pretty simple: If BM teases an announcement then people go wild speculating if it's a new camera If BM teases a new camera then people go wild speculating what it will be If BM announces a new camera then people go wild speculating what features it will have If BM doesn't announce anything then people go wild speculating what is going on

  5. It is the original AtomX Sync module that has been discontinued rather than the Connect. Ironically, of course, the AtomX Sync works perfectly fine with the Zoom products 🙂 The Connect does have a lot more utility over and above the timecode stuff though so its not a dead loss and I'm hopeful that Zoom will do the required firmware update. But absent of any definite commitment from them, I'm likely seeing an UltraSync Blue having to enter the equation.

  6. Caucasian skin is about one stop above middle grey. So it "should" be even higher! The dark & moody = cinematic/filmic thing is also another recent trend. With representations of film, the highlights are usually a lot softer relative to a typical contemporary digital curve with contrast added, and the shadows a lot harder. I find I get nice high contrast looks by copying the curves from a 35mm minilab film scanner. The shadows are very deep but the highlights go on for ever. This helps a lot when shooting people, as high contrast in the highlights is not nice for specular highlights on skin.

  7. Cube camera à la BS1H maybe? Maybe even a collab with Lumix and they (Pannyboy)focus on hybrids such as the S series?

  8. If you convert the log gamma to ACES CC gamma, which is straight, you can use a master color wheel or master offset control to make accurate changes to WB. Another (unrelated) interesting thing to note is that photos tend to be more contrasty than video. Historically, this is probably due to its intended output mediums: print versus TV screen. Even nowadays the default ACR/Lightroom curve is way contrastier than what most video people grade to. Worth bearing in mind for sending photos extracted from videos to a client. And for making prints.

  9. Same here. And it is not impossible - the Fuji X-S20 have a bigger sensor (APS-C), a bigger battery, and now have 10-bit video. Put a bigger battery sideways, like the X-S10, bring the mount a little closer to the grip, and you have space for a good EVF on the side. https://camerasize.com/compare/#908,770 A GX with 10-bit video, good IBIS (the GX9's IBIS is already better than Fuji's for video, personal experience), PDAF, a non-field sequential EVF (even the X-S20 2.36mp would be enough) - would be perfect. But looks like that "rangefinder" styled bodies are negleted form the manufacturers. OM digital does not have one, Panasonic is quiet (and I guess a new GX camera will never exist), Fuji dumbed down the X-E4 and there are a lot of rumors that a X-E5 will never exists...only Sony looks like that will release the A6700 and the A7C II, but with that atrocious commands.

Sigma 16-28mm f2.8 L mount I haven't really had much time to do anything with it but these are example grabs from 4K footage with the new to me Panasonic S5ii from the first couple of days after I picked it up. Initial impressions are that it is fast focusing, sharp and although it is absolutely not distortion free (particularly on the wide end) but should definitely be considered by anyone with an E/L mount camera that needs a fast, constant aperture, very wide zoom.

I can confirm that with a fully charged single oem LP-E6NH battery I got a little over 80 minutes at 4K 422 10bit 24p XF-AVC (Clog3). Before the update I was getting a little over 60 mins fully charged. Also getting double that with the grip. Words can't express how f*ckin' happy I am right now thanks to this one practical update - and I haven't even started to play around with the other stuff!

  12. Right, so I've unpacked it, connected it and had a go at syncing a Zoom F2-BT and a Zoom H3-VR to it. Absolutely nothing happening with either of them. Updated the firmware on my Ninja V which in turn updated the firmware on the Connect. Updated the firmware on both Zoom devices then verified that BLE works correctly on both of them with their respective Zoom Bluetooth control apps. Still nothing. Then came across this comment on Atomos's YouTube channel under a promo for the Connect. That was from 10 months ago so you'd imagine that if there was an issue that Atomos would have addressed it by now, particularly as the new firmware update that I put on the Ninja V for it was from only a week ago... I then found this absolute bombshell on Atomos FAQ section, also, you will note, from a week ago. Unbelievable. They had been pimping the fuck out of the Connect with AtomX Switcher module bundle for the whole of May and have casually forgotten to point out until last week (the deal ended at the end of May) that it doesn't work with any Zoom recorders despite it being known from that YouTube comment for ten months. That will only be the recorders that the vast majority of people (myself included) have bought this thing to work with then. This incompatibility thing is a bit fishy as well considering that the Zoom products do work with Atomos' own UltraSync Blue and AtomX Sync modules which of course themselves also work with the Connect. What the fuck is up with that company ? As I said in a previous post, there is always something with them isn't there? In this case, it looks like you have to buy an UltraSync Blue to act as a bridge if you want to use Zoom products or wait for some vague possible maybe firmware update from Zoom.
