  1. I do that with an Old Fashioned whenever filming with an Arri Alexa. Gotta stay posh.

  3. Speaking of cropping. The Z8 has a massive crop to 4K UHD for 120P NRAW. No pixel binning, no "subsampling," no line skipping. But, a 2.3X crop. This was shot in 12bit N-RAW HIGH, ZLog cropped 4K 120P to see what we get: There is audio too; it is not an S&Q mode.

  4. @markr041 I struggle to understand how and why we have to fight hard to buy or get access to some new releases but you invariably come here to post stuff from every single piece of most recent gear we've all been dreaming/salivating about! LOL : ) Are you used to buy them all? :- )

  5. 800. But with sun shining on water, there are lots of specular highlights. And, sun on white swan. I'd rather be prepared for high DR and preserving higlights than worry about noise in shadows. On no-sun days SDR and low ISO might be better indeed.

  6. And final decision made… The S1H is staying and the S5IIX going back without breaking the seals of the packaging never mind the box. I went into this weekends 3 day shoot edging towards the 3 identical camera body approach, which I would prefer in principle, plus smaller, lighter, faster, newer has certain benefits, but… The S1H is just too good a stills camera. Yes, stills. It’s meant to be ‘The Video One’ but actually excels as a stills camera for shooting people and events because it’s that little bit less critically sharp than the others without The OLPF. And then there is build, the ergos, the feel of the thing to use and the shutter sound is just sublime. The S5ii by comparison feels and sounds tinny. So decision made. I can’t sell or not use the best camera I have ever used. At least not until a genuine replacement comes along. When or if that happens, but otherwise the S1H is being reconfigured in my line up as principal stills with occasional video and the S5ii’s becoming more video specific and less stills. Same kit, just re-jiggled about a bit! I think the gimbal is going though. Just not getting any real use out of it and the S5ii is pretty good in that department for my limited needs.

    Canon EOS R5C

The battery issue is a thing of the past imo. Now it's pretty much on par with any Canon DSLR - and this is what I'm getting with 2 oem LPE6NH batteries in the oem grip.

  8. I agree with this assessment. In terms of video, it's important to remember that they don't have a cinema line to protect like other brand have. Let's remember almost everyone was following the "Olympus has fallen" mantra when the news had broken Olympus was selling their imaging business- most people were not expecting an E-P7, OM-1, OM-5, 20mm, 40-150 f4, and LS-P4 ii. I'm fairly certain the OM-1 and restructuring brought in some cash to fund some R&D for another camera. If not, that's just capitalism someone made some cash. The OM-1 will be every bit as good as when it came out- cameras are just tools and tools never get worse with time- users get better at using them though. Yes. Small is great! Even though the GH6 is "big", the lenses are not. Nowadays, we can also leave the tripod at home and for those of us with a sketchy back, it's much appreciated.

  9. Which is why I only ever use my phone these days. With a glass of gin in one hand, it’s not easy to rotate that VND.

  10. It has a great feature set for the purpose but, for me, more so as a holiday camera. The magnetic mounting pendant is very good for staying in the moment of what you are doing on holiday whilst still filming. The pre-record function is particularly good for using it in that way as you won’t actually have to worry about missing anything. Let’s face it, trying to do holiday videos with a “real” camera is a pain in the arse for EVERYONE concerned and is actually a contradiction in terms as it’s no holiday when you are titting about with lenses and ND filters and offloading footage. Let alone carrying it all and making sure it’s safe. It always ends up with the bulk of the footage coming from the first day and tailing off to nothing after a few days as it’s too much hassle to keep up. The AI editing is good too not just for taking out the tedium of doing editing but likely for taking out the tedium of the actual end result for whoever has to watch your holiday videos. No full size HDMI port means it will be a hard pass for a lot of people on here of course.
