+4K60p in h26x 10-bit 422 will overheat on any large sensor mirrorless without active cooling. So if you need unlimited recording in those settings just spend the extra $400 and get the FX30 with built-in fan etc. That said the thermals don't seem that bad, GU got +2h in 4K30p and 1h30 in 4K60p. I do like that Fuji thought of a cooling fan add-on. Sony goes for the segmentation model.2 points

Yes, they are painful enough as they are (bless ‘em) but to watch it back in ultra slow motion…to the point where the camera overheated and died just before little Jonnies only line, would be terrible.2 points

A6700 - FX30 sensor 👀

If that works for Panasonic, then good on them. But the last company that did that got lambasted by just about everyone, with the common complaint being "They should just let us record until it overheats instead of artificially limiting it". I also think it's a bit laughable that you applaud Panasonic for releasing a camera with a limited 4K60p mode, in the same breath as critcising a camera that has a perfectly functioning 4K60p mode (according to reports so far). Seems like favouritism to me. If someone tries to record a whole school play at 4K120p, that is user error.2 points -

My 2 cents after seeing some reviews as a targeted consumer of this camera - hybrid-enthusiast-amateur. Yes, because if doing videos was my work, don't even would think about this one. It is a rollercoaster of features: some very "high" (good) and some very low (bad). Mostly comparing it to the Fuji XS-20, which looks like the closest competitor. High: - 4K60 and 4K120 available in this price point - and, importantly, the image in these modes are VERY good. (I'm looking to the 1080p 240 from you, Fuji). - Card slot on the side, not on the battery door. - No idiotic filters / effects on the mode dial; - Arguably the best AF on the market, and good to use use manual focus too with the Focus Map feature (never tested it, but looks amazing and almost no one talks about it). - Dedicated switch between stills and video - much better than turning a mode dial.- Small - in the videos I got the impression that the camera is bigger because it looks thicker, but is even smaller than the X-S20. Heck, even smaller than a Panasonic GX85. Low: - Horrible 1080p video, if you want it; - Bitrates looks bad, 100 mbps for 4k24 (but never used XAVC-HD to have an opinion); - Terrible LCD panel for 2023 standards; - No focus joystick - and yes, was just the case to put one on the place of the AF-ON button, and moved the button up. - Bad burst still numbers; - No open gate or DCI 4k; - Dunno if the C modes on dials could be used for video too; About overheating: for people like me (hybrid normal user), and most the "content creators", it is almost a non-issue. Slow-mo is not used a lot, and when used, is for small takes. In fact, for Youtubers, the bad 1080p is more of a concern - a lot of these people still uses 1080p. Overheat could pose a problem for hybrid wedding shooters, I guess. In this regard, the fan of the X-S20 is kinda of a good solution - but if I wanna use Fuji for any professional use, would get a X-H2 or X-H2s. I liked the camera. But, if the X-S20 have AF good enough, is a much better proposition - in fact, Fujifilm released a firmware update yesterday that enhances the AF performance (but, again, no general wide / area tracking). And you have open gate and even the option to get an external recorder and shoot RAW video, for $100 less than the Sony. And, for stills, you have Fuji colors. All goes down to AF performance. For "content creators", is the most important thing - and the reason that ZV-E10 sells like hotcakes. The Canon R7 looks slight ahead than both these ones, but...where are the lenses? The A6700 is terrific for the intended public - and for the boatloads of the A6xxx users, is a no brainer. This one will sell VERY well.1 point -

They said in the live stream that they were considering ProRes Proxy, but they need to have enough people who want it (go to the comments section of the youTube video). I'm not really sure they'd do it though. Thanks for the link. It's quite comprehensive. Personally, I don't need ProRes. I'd rather bake in my noise reduction rather than increase render times.1 point -

This page is my reference for bitrates and other technical details: https://blog.frame.io/2017/02/13/compare-50-intermediate-codecs/ It doesn't show all the resolutions, but Prores is a constant bitrate-per-pixel (so UHD is 4x 1080p and DCI4K is 4x 2K) so you can always figure it out for custom resolutions. That said, for UHD, the bitrates are: HQ is 707Mbps, 422 is 471Mbps and LT is 328Mbps. If their 5.7K is the same aspect ratio as UHD then it would be 2.2x the number of pixels and bitrate. I guess 400Mbps isn't that far off if that's for 5.7K. I know that 1080p HQ is about 175Mbps, and the attraction for me was that UHD Prores Proxy was 145Mbps, so you get the benefit of the higher res without the ridiculous data rates. Still, 400Mbps isn't that much more than 175Mbps.1 point -
It's back! I skipped through ARRIs YT channel to look for 1080p videos that had it, and I found a couple of interesting things: ARRI upload videos in all sorts of resolutions, 4K, 1080p, 1440p, even 720p, even recently The 1080p uploads they did only have the Enhanced Bitrate option very recently - the 1080p ones uploaded more than a couple of months ago didn't have the option This video has it: Here's a comparison. This is the 1080p video displayed full-screen on my UHD display and then a screen-grab taken. Standard 1080p: Enhanced Bitrate 1080p: Standard 1080p: Enhanced Bitrate 1080p: Oddly, it's not available on this 1080p upload, which is more recent than the above. @kaylee Do you have it enabled yet?1 point

Exactamundo! Their help desk has not been overly helpful so far. I described the issue in trying to update the adapter using both my Mac and PC and 2 different cables and 2 different ports and the only response I received was, quote: “Sorry but our Software update is not compatible with Mac OS will only run on Windows OS”. OK, very factual and narrows down my choice of devices from 2 to 1 but otherwise provides zero useful information 😏 I have put in a request for something slightly more helpful. At least they didn’t take long to respond unlike DXO who can take months. So long you bought other software and forgot they existed. My first rule of business is don’t be shit. My second rule of business is don’t be a shit.1 point

A6700 - FX30 sensor 👀

Not sure it’s about ethics - at all. It’s profit. Want all day video? Buy an fx30/fx3/fx6. Want a hybrid ? Buy an a7iv/a6700/a7C 5 years ago I’d be in shock to have these options and quality This in fact I’d be happy getting the a6700 for hybrid use and if demands dictate more - grab a used fx30 for long form video. Best AF in the game, best DR at price points, best log profile at price point, easy single lens mount with cheap 3rd party options. as a non-paid user of these products I’m very happy with this1 point
