Thanks! I make sure my wb is correct, I also did custom WB with my budget vnd as it got this jaundice cast if using default WB set in camera, then add phantom lut with minor tweak in post. I been using Capcut for those reels, it definite give finalcut and premiere a run for the money for reel videos, it can't do detailed adjustment vs those paid program but it's free and come with lots of effects to use.2 points

Z-Cam used on Mission Impossible
FHDcrew and one other reacted to barefoot_dp for a topic
Of all the high-end jobs I've worked on using Arri's, not one of them was shot in raw. And I've never shot a single raw clip on any of my ZCams. You'll get a much better end result by spending extra time focusing on production design and lighting than you will by switching in to raw mode - and bigger productions know this. Prores is good enough for 95% of professional use (or 99% if 4444 is available). The people here who complain about any new camera that does not shoot raw are out of touch with reality.2 points -
https://www.dpreview.com/news/0684173325/l-mount-expansion-samyang-and-astrodesign-join-the-l-mount-alliance So when do we expect that 35-150mm F2-2.8 to be on L mount? 😎 And their collection of primes.1 point

I think if I wanted to go as small and light as possible for weddings/personal/vacation etc, I’d go FX30. Still weddings but something slightly more ‘pro’, then FX3. More pro still, FX6. Not wedding but more serious filmmaking, Komodo etc becomes interesting.1 point

Would rather take a GH7 instead I think you might be low-balling your estimate...1 point

Interestingly enough, they've used Zcam on previous MI films... https://ymcinema.com/2020/10/09/z-cam-e1-crash-cam-spotted-in-mission-impossible-7/ Agreed. My impression was that there are three types of productions: High budget feature films / flagship TV series These have the budget to use high resolution RAW capture, high-end cameras and fancy lenses, significant budget for professional colour grading, to promote the film they get lots of media attention and interviews etc. The process is overseen by professional folks who know how to extract every ounce of quality. Low-medium budget feature films / most TV shows These don't have the budget for extravagances and shoot with only the level of equipment that is necessary for professional results, using lower resolutions and Prores, using solid but less remarkable cameras and lenses, get minimum colour grading budget, and get far less media attention (and basically no media attention for technical matters). The process is overseen by professional folks who know how to do the basics so that the result is solid but is delivered within budget . Amateur features / short films / cat videos Devote more person-hours to their short film than major Hollywood feature films but spend that time obsessing over camera specifications and lens technical sharpness tests, scouring over the latest $100M feature film post-workflow and trying to implement every tool and technique, insisting on only the best. Most of the time their lack of basic understanding means the result is worse than even very low budget professional productions. A quick search revealed that IMDB says that Game of Thrones was shot on Prores and mastered in 2K.... https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0944947/technical/ and more searching reveals that it was the first three seasons shot in 1080p, then 3.2K from Season 4 onwards: https://thedigitalbits.com/item/game-of-thrones-complete-series-4k-uhd I wasn't able to find any original source for the above, but it appears to be the consensus. The fact it was shot in 10-bit 4:4:4 suggests it was compressed as RAW isn't 10-bit. Prores 4444 XQ spec is 396Mbps so this is roughly equivalent. Season 1 used the HDCAM SR format: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCAM So yeah, Prores is good enough.1 point

Why Christopher Nolan uses a flip-phone
solovetski reacted to SMGJohn for a topic
I can see Nolans point of view, I personally had to disconnect the internet in my work office because its too distracting, even told my boss to get me one of those dumb phones since we were required to take phone calls. Only three times a day did I connect to the internet, when I came to work, after lunch and 30 mins before the workday was over, and all of that, was to check and reply to emails as those are primary source of tasks including updating the progress on various jobs online. I really hate working on computers in general for the simple fact its easier to draw concepts on paper than it is to make one in a computer says it all. It even went to the point where if I had no idea what to design or create, I had to walk out the office, go sit somewhere, and I probably sit there for 2 -3 hours just drawing madly in my notes until the boss had enough of that and I quit 6 months later for burn-out. The world is so connected today its honestly mind blowing when people complain they are "lonely" in life, well I wonder why? Most people sit in their little echo-chambers feeding narcissism and other toxic attitudes, the days of social gatherings ended and I am so thankful to have actually lived in an era before social media just so that I personally know what it is like having to meet friends and go out do something, we used to go photography trips together a lot, but no one wants to do it, why? Oh they got smartphones now, it take pictures, they are bored of it. Thats another problem, ease of access, makes things boring, there no struggle, there no challenge to anything thats easy, why work hard when you can work easy? Right? What took a team of 3 people to make a magazine design, is now pushed onto suckers like me who have deadlines in 1 week. The thing how Nolan was missing out is true to many extent, people making groups in social media and chatting away, but in my 14 years of experience, I never seen these groups ever do anything productive, its always toxicity brewing eventually. But if you were to meet out for a drink, thats rarely the case mostly because everyones too drunk to care. I miss the analogue world, and while I do appreciate the modern wonders, too many side effects.1 point -
But if you are Christopher Nolan, you don’t have to be on social media to tout your wares because everyone in the industry knows your résumé. And you can afford to fly to Ireland in your private jet to hand deliver the script to Tommy Shelby in person. I was asked last week if I could drop in to Bordeaux next week to meet a couple who might be interested in using my services. Yeah, 15 hour round trip driving so 2 days for a zero commitment chat. If they even turned up… 🤪 But otherwise no fan of social media myself, other than for 2 purposes. A. Not having the status of Nolan, touting my wares to prospective punters. B. Sharing pics with friends & family. But I could happily live in a world where social media did not exist.1 point

Canon Highlights?
solovetski reacted to Benjamin Hilton for a topic
Yeah I had the same concern watching YT reviews before I bought an R7, I think it's mainly the users though, not the camera. I have both the R7 and the Lumix S1 plus som GH5s. Definitely a bit lower DR on the Canon compared to the S1, but not a big deal overall. Watching where you put your exposure and doing a good rolloff curve in post is much more important than actual numbers in my opinion when it comes to DR though. Seems pretty close to the GH5s IMO1 point -
Canon Highlights?
hyalinejim reacted to kye for a topic
I should also add to the above, that if you're shooting with any modern camera with 12stops or more of DR in a high-DR environment and the shadow noise and highlight clipping are both visible, then stop grading your images so they look like log footage and add some contrast FFS 🙂1 point -
I saw a few video, including one quoting Gerald Undone among a few other people. And most of them recorded those cameras at 24 degress and lower (indoors I am guessing). And still overheating in most cases. In direct sunlight, and at 30 degrees, they would definitely be more susceptible to overheating. Since @backtoitwould use them outdoors for his Vlogs.1 point

Samyang join L mount alliance
IronFilm reacted to newfoundmass for a topic
I think we'll continue to see more third parties join up now that the S5 II has been a success, though Tamron likely won't be one of them given Sony's ownership stake in them. That's a shame because Tamron is among the most intriguing lens companies out there for me, given their cost to quality ratio. I think it will get better with time. I wonder if they'll be able to improve the AF on L-mount bodies as an official member of the alliance, as in theory they might be able to get more cooperation from the other companies in the alliance vs. Sony, who just let's them reverse engineer their mount but doesn't seem to cooperate with them. Either way, it's a good sign that they're making lenses for the mount.1 point -
Good news for people shooting with L Mount cameras ! Samyang has some good to great lenses which are typically cheaper than Sigma or lenses produced by camera manufactures.1 point

You are correct, the ZV E1 is not the camera for 1.5 hour clips. It will overheat. Are you sure you can shoot continuous high bitrate 1.5 hour videos on an fx3 with its small battery? You can also hold the camera, lens and gimbal for 1.5 hours? It is not a light camera, and full-frame lenses are big and heavy. Perhaps a reason to go with a crop camera like the fx30 - smaller lenses.1 point

A6700 - FX30 sensor 👀
IronFilm reacted to newfoundmass for a topic
Find someone that loves you the way Sony loves releasing cameras that overheat. I'm sure there will be people that defend it (there always are) but it's unacceptable that it still happens, regardless of the price.1 point -
I was hoping for sub $1000. Silly me0 points
