  1. I shot a low-budget feature in the summer of 2006, I believe we were among the first to use the Andromeda DVX mod. It was... burdensome... though the footage looked great... at times. Our issue was we also used a Redrock Micro spinning ground glass adapter, and that device added at times too much "grain" and was a nightmare keeping focused/backfocused. I would complain about being tethered to a laptop (and the firewire connection did occasionally drop) but many of the most high-end digital systems at that time also had huge "digital mags" or needed to be tethered to a recording deck... I would hate using this camera today but at the time it felt revolutionary.

  2. @basil_555Awesome😂 You are the og poster of original Cinealta F3 thread. Congratulations on the kewlest camera thread in the universe!:) Erik Naso has done a nice test with the lens i think on the site hdwarrior iirc. On the positive side, mechanics, modern image, range, lens stabi. But you might already know that from your own testing. If you like the results with your setup, keep filming. I have an F3 and havent filmed other than some tests with it but i will keep it. Love its output. If you want a similar quality and you do ENG or minidocs etc, the tiny FS5 might cut it. Or the classic hit cam, the FS7. Plus a F4 18 to 110mm lens. Which has half the range but two times the price of your lens. F3 with external recording still smokes a FX30 for cinema image quality imho. Just like a Varicam smokes a S1H.

  4. That’s good because I clicked the link to the Sony jobbies and my wallet cleared it’s throat in such a manner, I got the message immediately 😉

  5. I'm also starting to see the benefits of gyro stabilisation in the newer cameras. My preferred camera is the Panasonic GX85 but if they released a successor that had internal gyro data (and the tools necessary to utilise it in post) then that would be an attractive feature for me - far more than 10-bit or log or other more technical upgrades.

Just got the TTArtisan 25mm T2 Anamorphot 1.33x. This is just a quick little test with the Sony FS5 and a Tiffen +2 diopter, shooting wide open. So far I love this tiny little anamorphic cine lens. No more janky DIY scope rigs, no more clamps, no more (occasionally) slightly misaligned footage. More than worth the $350 I paid for it. I hope they release a 50mm to pair with it. Look how compact and tiny it is:

  7. Glad I helped someone spend their money 😉 But seriously it is ‘the best’ camera I have had to date. I would just prefer it now if it had PDAF and more megapixels for the stills side of my work. It doesn’t need to be 8k as 6k would be more than enough for me as long as it is ideally FF at 50p. And if open gate, even better. Internal ND welcome, but not a dealbreaker. I’d settle for everything the same and just phase plus even 30mp. I reckon it will be more than that because to be competitive in marketing terms and therefore sales, it will have to compete on the camera arms race. Quite possibly. Would that be an S2H spec or an S2R? Or are we going to see what was/is 3 bodies become 2? Personally, I’d rather see 1, but modular as in you can pick and choose various spec options to order. I don’t know if that is feasible though. Probably not… The ergos, handling and sheer difference between the S1R and S2H was pretty annoying…

  8. Well, I hope someone might trade your theirs for 3 rolls of toilet paper and a half used hand sanitizer perhaps.

  9. That footage looks almost too good to be true. I must admit I never heard of that mod, but I was using ENG cameras at the time, so off my Radar. Just goes to prove how good Raw footage really is. Speaking about Raw footage, My son just got a Canon 5D mk III. Has shoot a little with ML on it yesterday. He was impressed to say the least. Have not been down to his house to see it.

  10. Well there is no doubt that CCD sensors look Way better than Bayer ones do. Until recently all MF cameras used CCD 's in them. But they sucked at high ISO at the time. All the Kodak DSC series Photo cameras had CCD sensors in them. Heck the original Olympus E1 which was just beautiful looking output photo wise, used a CCD sensor.
