Take the red pill...

I recently asked for book recommendations to learn about human vision and was given a link to a free PDF. It is incredible. I'm only a quarter of the way through, but I'm absolutely blown away. The human vision system looks like it was designed by committee and then re-imagined by Dali and Picasso, while on drugs. It is a wonder we can see anything at all! Did you know that the rods and cones (which detect light) are BEHIND a bunch of nerves and nerve cells and blood vessels, so the light has to go through a bunch of crap before you even sense it? The book is actually a mix of how the human vision system works and also what we have done with the tech to try and align to it, so it's a nice blend of biology and tech. It's also very readable and tries to be as non-technical as possible. This is a rare find compared to other books that are hugely tech heavy. Take the red pill with me... download it here: https://www.filmlight.ltd.uk/support/documents/colourbook/colourbook.php (download it by clicking on the box next to the file size).8 points -
That looks very nice. I recently used the S5IIx with Dehancer in a tutorial video I made. Was shooting this with the Lumix 24-105mm f4, 4k log long gop. This is just a tutorial but the end of the video has some longer sample footage. I was struggling quite a bit with autofocus, but the end results were fine - couldn't get the camera to detect her face the majority of the time, it would just track the body most of the time which is ok but not ideal. I don't know if I was doing something wrong but need to test AF again2 points

It apparently will be called the ZV-E or ZV-E1 and seems to essentially be an A7Siii in the rangefinder-ish body of the A7c. The following specs are from rumour sites so take with a pinch of salt but if this is accurate then it will be an interesting release. 12MP sensor from the Sony a7s III 4k 60p and 4k 120p video (no crop) Max ISO of 409,600 No pixel binning AF from a7R V, but it has even better detection New AI features Priced expected to be under $2,500 4k 120p could come later with a firmware update1 point

Fuji GFX 100 II official launch

https://www.newsshooter.com/2023/09/12/fujifilm-announces-gfx100-ii-large-format-mirrorless-digital-camera/?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=fujifilm-announces-gfx100-ii-large-format-mirrorless-digital-camera I am impressed Aggressive pricing for what it is too. Perhaps the best mirrorless camera ever made, from a technical standpoint. Also you don't need the expensive medium format glass... A lot of full frame SLR stuff adapts just fine, although still trying to find out if there are crop modes in video this time... Full frame crop mode would be handy as would S35. It has the spare res!!1 point -
Always helpful man! I’ll review again that model. Was also looking at the XS20 but I don’t need 6k. Looking to only be out a few hundred tops with selling my XT3 and buying a new body. Main draw is IBIS but if the ibis isn’t any good on Fuji, might as well keep what I have? I’ve recently found a method of stabilizing in Davinci again that I was happy with but still.1 point

Had the XH1 and went to the XT3 trading IBIS for 4K 50p…and that is where it began to go wrong for me with Fuji… Put in a preorder for a pair of XT4’s at the start of 2020, but then Covid stalled that plan. Then the S5 came along and made a lot of sense as a sideways move more or less re. continuing with 4K 50p but gaining full-frame stills. With hindsight, would I have made that switch? No, I would have stayed with Fuji and followed it through to either XH2 or XH2s which is where I would otherwise be now. Personally and if you could swing it, I’d be trading my XT3 for an XH2S if video is more your thing, or XH2 if the priority is stills. Pure hybrid, there’s a case for each. Or both.1 point

Absolutely this. A very insightful observation. I re-watched Shallow Grave (Danny Boyle, 1994) the other day. If anyone here is curious about what can be done with three good actors and an apartment, I'd definitely recommend revisiting this masterpiece. Shallow Grave is one of the most powerful demonstrations of how script, characters, and quality-of-acting can allow a low-budget filmmaker to out-shine anything Hollywood can muster. Shallow Grave was director Danny Boyle's (Trainspotting; 28 Days Later) first feature-film and stars a (then unknown) Ewan McGregor; who is stunningly adept as a young actor. Modern-filmmakers could benefit a lot by focusing less on technology and spectacle, and more on craft. The most valuable profits made by a movie are intangible: The extent to which the movie challenges, inspires, and changes society for the better.1 point

I agree with the technical specifications. The tricks I can't say for certain though. It looks to me that cinematic mode does more harm than good at the moment. It may depends on how limited the knowledge of that person. Anyways I haven't had a chance to test out this camera, so I'm just speculating. If the ZV-E1 indeed can give someone with limited knowledge the ability to produce professional result, it's going to be a VERY BIG DEAL, but perhaps not so great for us professionals.😅1 point

It is not just while recording, but simply being on that apparently it can overheat under certain conditions1 point

I think the price is very steep for the target demo. Especially in Europe. I just can't imagine your average vlogger dropping that kinda coin on a camera targeted at amateurs/beginners. That being said the camera has some pretty solid specs/features. They didn't gimp it as much as I thought they would. In fact, in quite a few ways it actually surpasses the A7S3 with next-gen AF, focus compensation and even LUT support. And it retains ALL-I 10-bit Slog3. I assume an A7S4 is just around the corner. The body of course is of the cheaper kind. And no EVF, no mechanical shutter. Micro HDMI etc. The IBIS is also the more basic A7C one, not the same as in A7 series. And the biggest con, no active/passive cooling. I've just seen some tests and the camera overheated in 30mn using XAVC-I. This totally kills it imo for most types of shooting.1 point
