  1. I got my iPhone 15 Pro Max (upgrade from 13 Pro Max) and some early observations: Quality is good when in shooting good conditions but breaks quite quickly if you miss exposure, in low light, etc. Log files can be graded easily and have no over-sharpening, can take some post processing but way less than R5c RAW files, the difference imo is night and day as it should be. The same for details compared to R5c is just worlds apart. BMD does not allow you to use 2x lens, zooming 2x with the 24mm lens the quality is quite bad (very blotchy, full hd at max). I did not test yet with the apple camera and the 2x “cropped” lens to see if is better. No Log + Cinematic in either Apple Camera or BMD H265+Log is a good compromise size vs. Quality and you can record all fps internally. 120mm lens I find it a bit better quality than the 77mm of the 13, and a more useful focal range for what I normally cover. I have BMD set to save to Files, then I connect a USB-C CFexpress or SSD and move the files in Files, is the quickest and easier method for PC users. Much better that the previous phone that was a nightmare to get the footage out from a PC. Action button is useful as you can set to start or even start recording in the BMD. Still need to get use to the BMD UI, with no hw button/wheels changing things rapidly is a bit of a pain for me. Overall, with Log and the 120mm is big update and I will use it even more than my previous phone, especially as B or C cam. Using it as a main camera is a big stretch and I think I will be mostly disappointed. Frame grab 4k Log 120mm.

  2. Pulled the trigger on this after using the 4k for exactly five years (and the Ursa's at work a lot). I don't know if it is the biggest mistake not going for the 6K pro but I am really excited, especially after loving my S5 II (and in my eyes this camera is a 'proper' cinema S5 II). I'll keep you guys posted.

  3. Got the first SJ20 actioncam and compared it with GoPro hero 12. I can't believe it so amazing night shoot!

  4. I am reviewing my lineup and decided to compare the OG BMPCC to the GH5, and ended up filming shot-by-shot duplicates and matching them in post. The results were surprising. I noticed that lots of shots had differences because the vNDs on the two setups were in different orientations and polarised the scene differently, but unless you were doing a direct comparison then that wouldn't be noticeable. GH5 was with 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 kit lens, shooting wide-open in 150Mbps UHD / HLG. P2K was with 12-35mm F2.8, shooting wide-open RAW. 1080p timeline as always. I graded each P2K shot and then graded the GH5 to match. I also shot a few of my wife as well, which matched nicely, including skin tones, but I'm not allowed to share those! The P2K has a desirable level of sharpness (being a native 1080p sensor) that is very similar to film, and I didn't need to blur the GH5 footage to match, which I suspect is due to the kit lens not being so sharp wide-open. Obviously the P2K has significantly more dynamic range, but it seems that when that is not required, the GH5 can do a pretty good imitation of it. Tools required to match shots included: contrast, saturation, colour boost, WB, exposure.. plus, I had to rotate the skintones slighty magenta, the greens slightly blue, raise the shadows slightly and tint them, and darken the saturated areas significantly. There were other tiny changes that I noticed that I didn't bother with. This isn't "basic" colour grading but matching GH5 to the legendary P2K isn't a basic goal either.

  5. Thanks but I am hoping for something that will keep it on pocket. Otherwise Ill use my camera. this design is closest I saw but probably not so good. It is terrible that there is a always a huge imagetic industry of people showing off their rigs and things are really cumbersome. https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/1005005066512401.html?src=google&src=google&albch=shopping&acnt=768-202-3196&slnk=&plac=&mtctp=&albbt=Google_7_shopping&isSmbAutoCall=false&needSmbHouyi=false&albcp=17283575038&albag=&trgt=&crea=pt1005005066512401&netw=x&device=c&albpg=&albpd=pt1005005066512401&gclid=Cj0KCQiAjMKqBhCgARIsAPDgWlwMKj4hJWeKLAWHLzRknXDDVPTeSN4rkrnvqitahpu-zYYYa3YUT4gaAgLNEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&aff_fcid=4a6efd8e6754473297cf1d451e700c5e-1699796407150-01741-UneMJZVf&aff_fsk=UneMJZVf&aff_platform=aaf&sk=UneMJZVf&aff_trace_key=4a6efd8e6754473297cf1d451e700c5e-1699796407150-01741-UneMJZVf&terminal_id=ed021bd9ce8e43198ef17c8d6f1aa4ec&afSmartRedirect=y this one would be interesting if their UV was their ND https://www.polarpro.com/products/iphone-15-case

  6. Same for wedding clients and probably ALL clients everywhere, every thing. Despite doing all the filtering prior to them booking and then educating from the point of booking to their event, about 1 in 20 slip the net. And then it's always a case of a long list of impossible questions to answer after the fact. "No, you are right, it doesn't look anything like your sisters wedding. I've never met your sister, wasn't at her wedding, and certainly didn't shoot it". "Yes, in different light, your bridesmaids dresses will look a slightly different colour to Pantone 317884. In the results I have provided to you, those are not dresses. That is not sky. Those are not trees, or people, or anything put millions of different coloured pixels. And then do not get me started on your monitor/device screen calibration, because unlike you, I actually have a life". Yawn... Given the choice...and I try to ensure this situation, I'd rather take a lower paying client who gets it over a higher paying one that does not. Every time. Unless they are paying CONSIDERABLY more.

  7. Just thought I'd mention I've revisited the Z8 with now better understanding of how the camera operates (read the manual beforehand) and of how to work with N-log (using color management bypassing the awful official LUTs) and well I guess all I can say is it is my new favourite camera! 4K ProRes HQ on an SD card edits like butter on my ageing iMac Pro and the IQ gives so much room for grading. Neutral & Flat profiles are also great SOOC profiles and 8K60p is of course top notch and I haven't yet even explored RAW. I guess ultimately the switch back to Nikon would be quite effortless as Z mount has smart adapters for my Sony & Canon EF glass and even my Leica M glass. Alongside my old Nikkor AIS, every single lens I own could be supported! I do have a question for Z8/Z9/Nikon users: does the camera have custom banks like C1/C2/C3 etc where you can have various custom settings like codec/frame rate/resolution settings and recall them quickly?
